Dataset for the Figure 2 in manuscript "Numerical study of coupled water and vapour flow, heat transfer, and solute transport in variably-saturated deformable soil during freeze-thaw cycles"

This dataset includes the gathered experimental measurements of a freezing test by Wu (2017) for the model's verification shown in Figure 2 of the manuscript entitled 'Numerical study of coupled water and vapour flow, heat transfer, and solute transport in variably-saturated deformable soil during freeze-thaw cycles'' by Huang, X., and Rudolph, D.L.

Soil dataset from poplar cultivation sites in northern Italy plains

The soil sampling activities conducted in the plains of northern Italy adhered to the methodology outlined in the poplar inventory dataset by Rizza et al. (2023). The dataset consisted of 2,322 clusters that were georeferenced on a three-kilometre UTM grid, systematically distributed across an area spanning 4,179,600 hectares. Each cluster comprised nine subunits aligned with the points on a 500-meter square grid.

The soil sampling took place between 1994 and 1996 and focused on locations with poplar plantations that were at least five years old in 1994. To obtain the samples, a pedological profile was manually excavated, and each layer was identified. One kilogram of soil was collected from each layer.

Each soil sample was labelled with the region's sampling letter, cluster number, and element number. A maximum of five depths were examined for each sample. The texture characteristics (fine sand, coarse sand, fine silt, coarse silt, and clay) and certain chemical properties (limited to the first horizon) were documented, including NH4+, NO3-, CaCO3, P2O5, pH, organic matter, and soil carbon.

Moreover, the presence of irrigation was recorded, and for the first layer, the depth of the temporary and permanent water table was reported. It is important to note that for certain samples, only the surface soil layers were evaluated, omitting depths exceeding 60 centimetres.

Additionally, the soil samples were air dried, sieved to two millimetres and then scanned using an ASD Fieldspec instrument, particularly the LabSpec Pro Spectrophotometer LSP 350-2500P Analytical Spectral Devices, Inc. The reflectance at wavelength range 350–2500 nm was acquired with an interval of 1 nm. The resulting Vis-Nir soil spectral library was integrated with the soil data and entered in two excel worksheets joined by a sampleID.

The coordinates of the samples are in WGS 84 - EPSG 4326.

Chronological dataset of soil respiration fluxes from a seasonally dry forest in Northwest México

Soil respiration data was acquired and analyzed as described in Vargas-Terminel et al.[1]. Briefly, soil respiration was obtained by measuring changes in CO2 concentrations with a portable soil flux system attached to a static chamber covering a portion of soil. Each measurement cycle in soil lasted 3 mins and was done monthly during a four-year period in 8 to 12 locations within three sites of tropical dry forest in Northwestern Mexico (a recent abandonment, a mid-secondary forest and an old-growth). Also, simultaneous soil temperature and volumetric soil water content measurements were carried with a thermocouple thermometer and a soil moisture sensor, respectively. Finally, soil respiration flux was calculated with commercial soil data processing software.

A Data-facilitated Numerical Method for Richards Equation to Model Water Flow Dynamics in Soil Dataset

This dataset contains the reference solutions used for training the two neural networks in 1-, 2- and 3-D cases for the article:"A Data-facilitated Numerical Method for Richards Equation to Model Water Flow Dynamics in Soil" by Zeyuan Song and Zheyu Jiang, submitted to the journal Water Resources Research.

This dataset which describes the relationship between the pressure head and number of particles used to train two MLPs in D-GRW based solvers consists of three files, i.e., 1-, 2- and 3-D case study. There are two parts, original reference solutions and reference solutions, corresponding to the original solutions generated by coarse mesh solvers and solutions after data augmentation process, respectively. The dataset is generated by GRW based solvers and simulation results (e.g., Celia's finite difference method). Original reference solutions admit GRW proportionality assumption. We initialize the number of particles by multiplying the initial condition and 1E10.

Schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis preventive chemotherapy: Adverse events in children from 2 to 15 years in Bengo province, Angola - Dataset

In the context of a targeted drug administration, between December 2012 and September 2013, we conducted two surveys after co-administrating single oral doses of praziquantel and albendazole tablets to children 2 to 15 years of age. About 24 hours after each treatment, participants answered a questionnaire about adverse events. At baseline, 605 children (55.0% male; mean age: 9.7 years) were treated; 460 were interviewed and 257 (55.9%) reported at least one adverse event, 62.3% (160/257) of children being infected with schistosoma haematobium. After six months of treatment, among 339 children surveyed, 184 (54.3%) reported adverse events, with 49.5% (91/184) of infected children. Adverse events were most common in preschool-aged children, with no significant difference between genders. The most frequent adverse events in the two surveys were abdominal pain (18.5%, 25.7%), headache (20.9%, 23.0%) and dizziness (15.7%, 19.8%). Children aged 12 to 15 years (adjusted OR=0.40, p=0.040) and those with mixed infection (adjusted OR=0.04, p=0.011) had lower odds of adverse events. After the second treatment, those with heavy infection (adjusted OR=2.72, p=0.018) and aged 9-11 years (adjusted OR=2.01, p=0.049) had significantly fewer adverse events. About 2.0% of children experienced severe adverse events.
