56th CIRP Conference on Manufacturing Systems, CIRP CMS '23, South Africa - Enhancing SLM Stainless Steel: Model-Based Parameter Optimization

<p>&nbsp;SLM (selective laser melting) has faced challenges in ensuring consistent mechanical properties for various geometries in the past. However, the authors have developed a system that solves this issue by calculating the optimal process parameters for each scan vector on each layer. This approach ensures consistent melt pool geometry, derived from the most robust in conduction welding mode. The results from the single melt-line experiments and the presented thermal conduction solver demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in achieving a stable melt pool geometry in stainless steel (1.4404 or 316L). Furthermore, a rigorous testing regimen has been implemented to evaluate the system under different changing boundary conditions, to further demonstrate its usefulness. By utilizing this system, manufacturers will achieve consistent and high-quality mechanical properties for small lot sizes, including spare and obsolescent parts.</p>

polyGNN dataset: steel's micro/nano hardness prediction

<p>The polyGNN dataset consists of a collection of grain-level load-depth curves corresponding to nano-indentation tests performed on a polycrystalline steel. The dataset is organized into relevant subfolders labeled as &ldquo;${fmax} mN&rdquo; with fmax = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 7, 10 denoting the maximum indentation load used in each experimental set. Every subfolder contains 15 different load-depth files with the same fmax but at different indentation points which are labeled numerically from 1 to 15 as shown in Figure 1. These files include three columns representing the indentation time (s), depth (nm), and force (mN) measurements. To reconstruct the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) map, the file &quot;stal_310_s_indenty_wszystkie.ang&quot; can be loaded into the mtex software.&nbsp;</p>

Characterisation of corrosion damage in T91/F91 steel exposed to static liquid lead-bismuth eutectic at 700-715 °C

<p>ABSTRACT:&nbsp;T91 samples were exposed to static liquid lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) at 700-715 &deg;C for 250-500 h in either an oxidising or reducing environment. Corrosion damage was characterised using electron microscopy techniques, which identified networks of LBE intrusion beneath LBE-wetted surfaces. Under reducing conditions these networks are uniformly distributed, while they appear patchier and deeper under oxidising conditions. The individual intrusions preferentially follow microstructural features, initially along prior-austenite grain boundaries, followed by penetration down martensite lath boundaries. Local depletion of Cr was observed within 4 &mu;m of LBE intrusions and along intersecting boundaries, suggesting local Cr dissolution as the main corrosion mechanism.</p>

<p>The&nbsp;dataset consists of sensor data from the V&auml;nersborg Bridge in Sweden, comprising 64 bridge opening events registered as&nbsp;accelerations, strains, inclinations, and weather conditions. Data from before, during, and after a verified fracture are provided.&nbsp;The sample of raw data captured the same bridge opening event multiple times over the monitoring duration. Classifying data before and after damage enables the development and verification of routines for novelty detection.&nbsp;</p>

Database of measurements for damage detection of T-type steel structural joint by Coaxial Correlation Method in 6-D space

<p>This database includes series of measurements of the structure&rsquo;s response taken in six-dimensional space using two 6D sensors, coaxially positioned on either side of the investigated joint between two steel beams connected at an angle of 90⁰. Data from: A study of bacteria adhesion and microbial corrosion on different stainless steels in environment containing Desulfovibrio vulgaris manuscript

<p>Stainless steel is an important material used in many applications due to its mechanical strength and corrosion resistant properties. The high corrosion resistance of stainless steel is provided by the passive film. Different stainless steels have different alloy elements and surface properties which could have a significant influence on bacterial attachment to the surface and thus might result in different microbial corrosion behaviours. In this study, the effect of adhesion of sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) and corrosion behaviour in artificial seawater on different stainless steels was investigated. Stainless steel materials used were SS 410, SS 420, SS 316 and DSS 2205 and pure chromium. The contact angle was measured to study the effect of surface properties of materials. Adhesion was measured by counting cells attached to the surface of materials. The corrosion behaviour of the materials was measured by electrochemical testing including measuring open circuit potential, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic behaviour. The long-term corrosion behaviour of each material was studied after six months exposure by measuring weight loss and surface analysis with SEM-EDX. The results show the high dependency on hydrophobicity of materials surfaces to bacterial attachment. However, bacterial attachment did not have a significant effect on the corrosion rate of the materials. Pure chromium had the best corrosion resistance to MIC with reduced bacterial attachment compared to the stainless steel samples. The nature of bacterial attachment and corrosion behaviour of the materials are discussed.</p>
