<p>The data supports the manuscript entitled "A self-sustained charge neutrality lightning model containing the channel decay and reactivation process”. Microsoft Notepad can open the *.txt files, they contain the channel information of two intracloud flashes (IC1 and IC2) and the channel elctrical parameters at the first fork of positive or negative leader channels. A normal video player software can open Movies S1.avi, and it shows the entire development process of IC1 discharge.</p> <p>The data can be used freely for scientific purposes with the appropriate citation.</p>

Data and code for "Sustainable Human Population Density in Western Europe between 560.000 and 360.000 years ago"
<p>This dataset contains the modeling results GIS data (maps) of the study “Sustainable Human Population Density in Western Europe between 560.000 and 360.000 years ago” by Rodríguez et al. (2022).</p> <p>The NPP data (npp.zip) was computed using an empirical formula (the Miami model) from palaeo temperature and palaeo precipitation data aggregated for each timeslice from the Oscillayers dataset (Gamisch, 2019), as defined in Rodríguez et al. (2022, in review).</p> <p>The Population densities file (pop_densities.zip) contains the computed minimum and maximum population densities rasters for each of the defined MIS timeslices. With the population density value Dc in logarithmic form log(Dc).</p> <p>The Species Distribution Model (sdm.7z) includes input data (folder /data), intermediate results (folder /work) and results and figures (folder /results). All modelling steps are included as an R project in the folder /scripts. The R project is subdivided into individual scripts for data preparation (1.x), sampling procedure (2.x), and model computation (3.x).</p> <p>The habitat range estimation (habitat_ranges.zip) includes the potential spatial boundaries of the hominin habitat as binary raster files with 1=presence and 0=absence. The ranges rely on a dichotomic classification of the habitat suitability with a threshold value inferred from the 5% quantile of the presence data.</p> <p>The habitat suitability (habitat_suitability.zip) is the result of the Species Distribution Modelling and describes the environmental suitability for hominin presence based on the sites considered in this study. The values range between 0=low and 1=high suitability. The dataset includes the mean (pred_mean) and standard deviation (pred_std) of multiple model runs.</p>

Tool for the selection of indicators for agriculture sustainability assessment
<p>This is a preliminary version of the Excel-based tool that is being developed within the Working Group of the Crop diversification cluster on Multi-criteria Assessment and Sustainability Indicators (MCA & SI cluster WG). The tool has the aim to assist different end-users in the selection of sustainability indicators tailored to assess the impacts and effects of crop diversification. Currently this preliminary version contains only the indicators developed by the DiverIMPACTS and DiverFARMING projects (2 out 5 projects of Crop diversification cluster).</p> <p>The tool is composed by three sheets: 1) the “Selection” sheet for querying the database and obtaining the results; 2) the “Database” sheet where all indicators of the cluster projects are reported; 3) the “SAFA_HierachicalClassification” sheet with the description of the SAFA framework, and the items identified for the indicators of the cluster projects reported in the database.</p>

Balancing carnivore conservation and sustainable hunting of a key prey species: a case study on the Florida panther and white-tailed deer
<p>1. Large carnivore restoration programs are often promoted as capable of providing ecosystem services. However, these programs rarely measure effects of successful restoration on other economically and ecologically important species. In South Florida, while the endangered Florida panther (Puma concolor coryi) population has increased in recent years due to conservation efforts, the population of its main prey, the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), has declined in some regions. The extent to which panther predation has affected deer populations has been difficult to assess because several other factors have changed during this period, including hydrology and hunting regulations.</p> <p>2. We collected known-fate survival data on 241 GPS-collared adult deer (156 females and 85 males) from 2015 to 2018 in the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge and the Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida, USA, to assess effects of panther predation on the deer population, while also evaluating the impacts of hunting and hydrology.</p> <p>3. Predation was the primary cause of death (110 of 134 mortalities), and 87% of predation events were attributed to panthers, a much greater rate than reported by studies conducted before the panther genetic restoration effort initiated in 1995. One deer was legally harvested, and two were likely killed by poachers. Increasing water depth decreased female survival but had little impact on male survival, and drowning was never a cause of mortality.</p> <p>4. Females had greater survival probability than males, except during fawning season. From 2015 to 2018, annual survival rates increased from 0.61 (0.52-0.70) to 0.86 (0.79-0.91) for females, and from 0.45 (95% CI: 0.33-0.58) to 0.79 (0.69-0.86) for males.</p> <p>5. Synthesis and applications – High predation rates, coupled with previous evidence of low recruitment of deer in South Florida, suggest that it will be challenging to meet society's competing demands for large predator restoration and sustainable deer harvest. Deer hunting in the area must remain tightly controlled, for now, if it is to be sustainable, and managers should seek to mitigate effects of high waters and improve deer habitat quality to increase deer population viability. Future work should closely monitor the deer population to assess if management actions can increase vital rates and abundance in the context of high predation rates.</p>

<p>Having identified through the literature review various success and failure factors for social innovation applied to community energy projects, ISABEL has further conducted 18 semi-structured interviews of a range of stakeholders. The interviewee sample was a convenience sample of participants in existing projects and thus, inevitably, they are able to speak more to successful than unsuccessful projects and they likely have had less exposure to obstacles to the success of their projects. T The interviews have focused on identifying answers to the questions: <em>What were the key success factors? What obstacles were overcome? How? Participants were also asked to specify the type of renewable energy and community energy model. </em></p>
Free Open Source Communities Sustainability: Does It Make a Difference in Software Quality?
<p><strong>Context:</strong> Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) communities' ability to stay viable and productive over time is pivotal for society as they maintain the building blocks that digital infrastructure, products, and services depend on. Sustainability may, however, be characterized from multiple aspects, and less is known how these aspects interplay and impact community outputs, and software quality specifically.</p> <p><strong>Objective: </strong>This study, therefore, aims to empirically explore how the different aspects of FOSS sustainability impact software quality.</p> <p><strong>Method: </strong>16 sustainability metrics across four categories were sampled and applied to a set of 217 OSS projects sourced from the Apache Software Foundation Incubator program. The impact of a decline in the sustainability metrics was analyzed against eight software quality metrics using Bayesian data analysis, which incorporates probability distributions to represent the regression coefficients and intercepts.</p> <p><strong>Results: </strong>Findings suggest that selected sustainability metrics do not significantly affect defect density or code coverage. However, a positive impact of community age was observed on specific code quality metrics, such as risk complexity, number of very large files, and code duplication percentage. Interestingly, findings show that even when communities are experiencing sustainability, certain code quality metrics are negatively impacted.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> Findings imply that code quality practices are not consistently linked to sustainability, and defect management and prevention may be prioritized over the former. Results suggest that growth, resulting in a more complex and large codebase, combined with a probable lack of understanding of code quality standards, may explain the degradation in certain aspects of code quality.</p>

This dataset contains all the simulations and the empirical data and results for Mammals using the birth-death diffusion (BDD) diversification models. These dataset were produced with the Tapestree.jl package for the Julia software. Moreover, it contains the fossil data and resulting extinction curves using PyRate as well as other files. Stream temperature data for Alaska Sustainable Salmon Fund project 53007 Assessing Thermal Habitat Variability to Identify Refugia in SE Alaska Subsistence Salmon Watersheds
<p>Hourly stream temperature data were collected in eight watersheds in southeast Alaska to better understand within-watershed thermal heterogeneity. Watersheds include: Chilkat, Chilkoot, Klag, Cowee, Peterson (Juneau road system), Saltery, Kadashan, and Klawock. Site latitude and longitude are recorded in the metadata file. Data were collected with HOBO Onset Pro V2 or HOBO TidbiT MX 400 temperature loggers following the protocols in <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ejrh.2015.07.008">Mauger et al, 2015</a>. Data collection dates range from January 1, 2020 to November 2, 2023, although not all sites cover this entire date range. </p>
Alloy Sustainability Database - Evaluating the Economic, Environmental, and Societal Impacts of High-Entropy Alloys
<p>This database encompasses 18 elements and details over 400 high entropy alloys (HEAs), Ni-based superalloys, and steels, providing an extensive review of their properties and capabilities. To assess the broader implications of these materials, we have developed nine indicators that evaluate their economic, environmental, and human health impacts. Each indicator is meticulously described, including the methods used for their calculation. This data has been compiled with the goal of integrating considerations of societal impact into the alloy design process, thereby promoting the development of materials that are not only innovative but also socially responsible.</p>
