Dataset: Inferring Inherent Optical Properties of Sea Ice Using 360-Degree Camera Radiance Measurements

<p>New types of compact 360-degree cameras have recently appeared on the consumer technology market. Some of these allow users to access raw imagery, offering sensor-level data that can be directly exploited for absolute light quantification. This paves the way for easy-to-use, inexpensive and accessible radiance cameras that can be operated in a wide range of natural environments.&nbsp;</p> <p>This dataset presents the angular radiance distributions measured with the Insta360 ONE 360-degree camera in sea ice. We report vertical profiles of the light field structure at two sites reprensentative of distinct sea ice types: High Arctic multi-year ice and Chaleur Bay (Quebec, Canada) landfast first-year ice.&nbsp;</p> <p>This repository contains the radiometric data stored in <strong>Hierarchical Data Format (HDF5, h5)</strong> under the following names:&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li><strong><a href="https://zenodo.org/api/records/14263256/draft/files/oden-08312018-imf-fluo.h5/content" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">oden-08312018-imf-fluo.h5</a></strong></li> <li><strong><a href="https://zenodo.org/api/records/14263256/draft/files/baiedeschaleurs-03232022-imf-fluo.h5/content" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">baiedeschaleurs-03232022-imf-fluo.h5</a></strong></li> </ul> <p>The High Arctic dataset (<strong>oden-08312018-imf-fluo.h5</strong>) contains only one station, while the Chaleur Bay (<strong>baiedeschaleurs-03232022-imf-fluo.h5</strong>) has four that can be accessed using these tags: "station_1", "station_2", "station_3", "station_4". <p>This dataset compiles underway fugacity of CO₂ measurements collected during Legs 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of the <em>Mission Microbiomes AtlantECO</em> aboard the sailing vessel <em>Tara</em>.</p> <p>The dataset spans from August 2021, starting in Martinique (France), to late November 2021 at the Brazil-Uruguay border.</p> <p>It includes time and location of measurement, sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, 10 m wind speed, bottom depth, equilibrator temperature, atmospheric pressure, molar fraction of CO₂ in seawater, partial pressure of CO₂ in seawater, and fugacity of CO₂ in seawater.</p> <p>This dataset has been submitted to the 2025 SOCAT release and is accompanied by the paper <em>'Exploring the CO₂ fugacity along the east coast of South America aboard the schooner Tara'</em>, submitted to <em>ESSD</em> by Olivier et al.</p> <p>Additionally, the dataset includes a metadata file (<em>Metadata_TaraMicrobiomes_ATLANTECO.xlsx</em>), formatted according to SOCAT submission requirements, providing further details specific to this dataset.</p> <p>The data is available in two open-access formats: CSV and NetCDF</p>

Heritable variation in host quality as measured through an ectoparasite's performance

<p>Obligate parasites need one or more hosts to complete their life cycle. However, hosts might show intraspecific variation in quality with respect to the parasites themselves, thus affecting on-host and off-host parasite performance. High heritability in host quality for the parasite may therefore exert long-lasting selective pressures on the parasite<br> and influence host–parasite coevolution. However, the amount of variation and heritability in host quality are unknown for most parasite species, especially in wild populations of hosts. Both measures were estimated in a wild-caught bird Parus major that was experimentally infested by two developmental stages (larva and nymph) of a ectoparasite (the tick Ixodes arboricola). We examined variation in host quality through variation in tick performance, namely the on-host performance (attachment success, feeding time, engorgement weight and feeding success) and the off-host performance (moulting time, moulting success and overall survival). Herein we also investigated the influence on tick performance of host traits linked with the bird's life history and physiology such as body condition, sex, age and haematocrit. By correlating tick performance variables between larvae and nymphs feeding on the same bird at different times, we found a significant correlation in attachment success, suggesting consistent among-host variation for this performance measure, but no significant larva-nymph correlations for the other tick variables. Animal models relating tick performance variables to the host pedigree showed a strong heritable signal for host quality as measured through tick feeding time, and lower but substantial estimates in other performance variables. With regard to the host traits, feeding success and survival of tick larvae were lower on female birds, and nymphal survival was higher on older birds. Larval feeding time was negatively  correlated with host haematocrit. This is one of the first studies showing consistent intraspecific variation and heritability of host quality for a multistage ectoparasite.</p>

<p>The robotic pump demonstrator represents a hydraulic pump that can be mounted on an industrial robot, for example, to pump liquid paint for spray painting. On this pump, one accelerometer is mounted for vibration monitoring and recording.</p> <p>The pump can be controlled in terms of speed (rotations per minute, rpm), affecting the throughput of paint and the pressure in and out of the pump.</p> <p>The dataset consists of 380 million measurements of several sensor data of the pump system in 1-second intervals over two months in 2020. The data is split by the recording date over 33 files.</p>

AI4EU Robotics Pilot: Vibration sensor measurements in a robotic wrist

<p>The robotic wrist demonstrator represents a mechanical wrist with three axes that can hold tools, e.g. for spray painting in combination with a pump. On this robotic wrist, two accelerometers are mounted for vibration monitoring and recording: one in the movable front part of the wrist and one in the shaft. The wrist can be controlled through the torque or the designated position of each axis&rsquo; motor.</p> <p>The dataset consists of 1.8 billion measurements of several sensor data of the robotic wrist in 1-second intervals over six months in 2020. The data is split by the recording date over 98 files.</p>

Photograph measurements of broad whitefish (Coregonus nasus) body size

<p>The dataset contains photograph measurements of broad whitefish (<em>Coregonus nasus</em>). Measurements (mm; with the scale set to the image)&nbsp;were taken using ImageJ. There are 15 measurements total; see the &ldquo;Measurement Guide&rdquo; file for details. Broad whitefish were harvested and photographed in the Gwich&rsquo;in Settlement Area by community collaborators in 2017 &amp; 2018, along the Peel Channel in the Mackenzie Delta and the Peel River.</p> <p>Measurements&nbsp;were used to predict fish weight using random forest analysis as a methodology for community-based data collection. The &ldquo;Data Type&rdquo; column refers to the dataset fish were randomly assigned to as part of this process. &ldquo;True Fish Weight (g)&rdquo; and &ldquo;True Fish Length (mm)&rdquo; were collected in the field by community monitors.</p> <p>Data collection was done as part of a research program that began in 2017 between Gwich&rsquo;in community members, renewable resources organizations within the Gwich&#39;in Settlement Area, and university scientists.</p>
