Reference data on bark beetle infestations in Trentino (Italian Alps)

Reference data about the bark-beetle infestations in the Trentino province (Italy) covering the 2019-2022 years.

The reference data were generated by manual photointerpretation of Planet imagery (i.e., monthly Planet basempas) and are provided in two datasets, a point-based one and a polygon-based one. A detailed description of the two datasets is provided in D. Marinelli, M. Dalponte, L. Frizzera, E. Næsset, D. Gianelle, "A method for continuous sub-annual mapping of forest disturbances using optical time series", Remote Sensing of Environment 299, 113852.

The GeoPackage file contains three layers. Here we provide the layers with name and description of each field:

Point-based dataset:

fid: feature id;

is_disturbed: boolean set to true if the point has been labelled as disturbed.

Polygon-based dataset;

fid: feature id;

study_area_fid: id of the study area;

survey_detection_year: year of the first detection by photointerpretation;

survey_detection_month: month of the first detection by photointerpretation.

Study areas (polygon-based dataset).

fid: id of the study area.
