Graven Laboratory: Atmospheric methane measurements and simulations
<p><strong>About:</strong></p> <p>Here, the atmospheric measurement and simulation data used in <em>"Continuous CH4 and d13CH4 measurements in London demonstrate under-reported natural gas leakage</em>" (Saboya et al., 2022) published in <em>Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics</em> is provided.</p> <p><strong>Atmospheric Measurements</strong></p> <p>Atmospheric measurements of methane (CH4), its carbon-13 isotopic tracer (d13CH4), wind direction and wind speed have been made from the top of the Huxley building at Imperial College London. The data presented here span from March 2018 to October 2020. Twenty-minute averaged atmospheric CH4 and d13CH4 measurements made using a Picarro G2201-i isotopic analyser are included, as processed by GCWerks software. These data are in the file "GRAVEN_LAB_MEASUREMENTS_FINAL".</p> <p><strong>Atmospheric simulations</strong></p> <p>Atmospheric simulations were created by combining global emissions (EDGAR v4.3.2) and UK national emissions (NAEI) of CH4 with back-trajectories produced in NAME at multiple spatial resolutions. Simulations of d13CH4 are based on a mass-balance approach.</p> <p> </p> <p>For full-details about the atmospheric measurements and simulations see Saboya et al. (2022).</p>
Seasonality of stable isotope composition of atmospheric water input at the southern slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.
<p>The extensive dataset provides detailed information about different precipitation types and their stable isotope analyses of δD and δ18O of weekly precipitation samples along an altitude gradient rising from 950 m to nearly 4,000 m a.s.l. over 2 years.</p> <p>It provides a broad overview of the main characteristics of water stable isotope compositions of precipitation at the southern slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The data can be used to better characterize groundwater and surface water sources and availability to ecosystems and the people living in the investigated region and provide much-needed information on stable isotope chracteristics of precipitation in equatorial Africa. </p> <p>The associated publication to this data set is available at Hydological Processes:</p> <p>Otte, I, Detsch, F, Gütlein, A, Scholl, M, Kiese, R, Appelhans, T, Nauss, T 2017. Atmospheres
<p>Atmospheres (18:20) is a short sensory ethnographic essay film that uses handy-cam footage and soundscapes to follow the movements of petrochemicals in Toronto, Canada. A speculative experiment in sensing “Chemical X,” it dwells imagistically with archival sites of contaminated marshland infill where fossil fuel refineries once operated. Capturing the duration of oily sheens and residues of a settler city’s heavy industry, the locations of soil-sample toxicants in a field undergoing remediation are presented alongside incantations of consumer products containing them. Images of landfill materials, a household hazardous waste drop-off, and places of industrial disaster, gesture towards the atmospheric recombinations of low-level emissions. Failing to determine Chemical X’s fate reveals the need to reimagine becoming-with toxic petrochemical exposures. This film is directed and produced by Sophia Jaworski, with narration by Fan Wu, and sound mastering by Farshad Bokaie. It has funding from the Ontario Graduate Scholarship.</p>
