SWOT-compliant GRDC river flow dataset for the estimation of Flow-Duration Curves

This repository hosts the data used in the manuscript "Potential legacy of SWOT mission for the estimation of Flow-Duration Curves” by Alessio Domeneghetti, Serena Ceola, Alessio Pugliese, Simone Persiano, Irene Palazzoli, Attilio Castellarin, Alberto Marinelli, Armando Brath

The study investigates the potential of the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission for the estimation of Flow-Duration Curves (FDCs) globally. SWOT-like river flow data is derived from the Global Runoff Data Centre (GRDC) dataset by selecting river gauging stations with a cross section wider than 100 m and with more than 10-year long daily river flow time series. Overall, 1200 river gauging stations are considered, from which 24 alternative SWOT-like river flow datasets can be derived by assuming different satellite revisiting times, biases and random errors, as detailed in the manuscript.

The dataset includes detailed features on the selected 1200 river gauging stations. GRDC river flow daily time series for each station is provided as .csv. A .shp file provides the geographical location of each GRDC gauging station, including GRDC number, river, gauging station municipality, country, latitude and longitude, contributing area, altitude and Köppen-Geiger climate classification.

ParaturboCAD Dataset of R134a HGJB Supported Centrifugal Compressors Optimized Across Varied Mass Flows

This dataset showcases the capabilities of the ParaturboCAD Python library in automatically generating CAD models of optimized gas-bearing supported turbocompressors. Using input from NSGA-III driven optimizations that yield abstract/1D parameters, ParaturboCAD efficiently maps these parameters to detailed 3D geometries. Each model, provided in both STEP and STL formats, represents each of the subsystems and the final turbocompressor assembly. Designed to operate with R134a refrigerant, these centrifugal compressors are optimized for various nominal mass flows, demonstrating the library's proficiency in translating optimization results into practical, manufacturable designs. With an average generation time of less than 7 minutes per design on a 12 cores CPU clocked at 4.3HGz, this dataset not only validates the efficiency of ParaturboCAD but also serves as a valuable tool for researchers and engineers focusing on advanced compressor design and manufacturing processes.

Bacterial abundances by flow cytometry - collected from the Southern Ocean in the austral summer of 2016/2017, during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition.

Seawater surface samples (5 m) were collected every 6 hours from the ship’s underway pump. In addition, vertical profiles (6 depths, generally from 5 to 100-150 m) were sampled from CTD casts using a SBE 911 Plus attached to a rosette of 24 12-L PVC Niskin bottles. This dataset presents the abundances of high-DNA containing and low-DNA containing bacteria from seawater samples collected from the ship’s underway pump and CTDs. Samples were fixed with paraformaldehyde and glutaraldehyde and stored at -80ºC. In the lab, they were thawed, stained with SYBR-Green, and counted in a Cube 8 flow cytometer (SYSMEX PARTEC) based on green fluorewscence. Samples were collected around the Southern Ocean on the R/V Akademik Tryoshnikov in the austral summer of 2016/2017, as part of the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE).
