A Prosthetic Hand with Integrated Sensing Elements for Selective Detection of Mechanical and Thermal Stimuli

Flexible electronics have gained popularity because of their capability to combine softness and functionality. Soft resistive sensors are susceptible to mechanical stimuli and detecting temperature selectively remains a challenge. In this study, soft flexible thermistors are developed for detecting temperature changes based on the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect, selectively. By thermomechanical analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, it is observed that thermoplastic elastomers with higher thermal expansion and semicrystalline morphology result in a sensitive thermistor response. To achieve a high sensitivity in temperature and low sensitivity in the detection of mechanical stimulus, a low-carbon filler content is required. The opposite trend is seen for the piezoresistive sensors for mechanical strain detection. Both sensory material types are compatible with thermoplastic material extrusion-based additive manufacturing. The method is used for the fabrication of the sensing elements and an open-source prosthetic hand. The strain sensor detects the bending of the fingers and the temperature sensor detects the temperature when in contact with a heated surface, successfully. In addition, the temperature sensor is used as a tactile sensor to detect contact with a non-heated surface. Combining selective multisensory capabilities will significantly affect the future development of sensorized prosthetic devices and wearable electronics.

"It was recorded on Sunday, morning of the 28th of September as some of the slower runners of the Berlin Marathon made it past Torstrasse near my flat. Iwas out to buy some bread for breakfast, but Iusually bring a camera and my Edirol R-1 recorder whenever Igo out. Since Iwas freshly returned to Berlin Iguess Iwas sensitive to the more antiquated sounds which still survive there, like that of the organ grinder. Iam generally interested in how human beings are replacing the presence of Nature with an artificial environment made entirely by human hands (and thus far more understandable, it is hoped). In this new Human Nature, the sounds of Nature are also Human made. Iwrite about these things, but Ialso use the sounds in my videos and my interactive and generative media work, so generally Iam wandering around building up my archive of media documents for use as material in future works." EMG and Video Dataset for sensor fusion based hand gestures recognition

This dataset contains data for hand gesture recognition recorded with 3 different sensors.

sEMG: recorded via the Myo armband that is composed of 8 equally spaced non-invasive sEMG sensors that can be placed approximately around the middle of the forearm. The sampling frequency of Myo is 200 Hz. The output of the Myo is a.u

DVS: Dynamic Video Sensor which is a very low power event-based camera with 128x128 resolution

DAVIS: Dynamic Video Sensor which is a very low power event-based camera with 240x180 resolution that also acquires APS frames.

The dataset contains recordings of 21 subjects. Each subject performed 3 sessions, where each of the 5 hand gesture was recorded 5 times, each lasting for 2s. Between the gestures a relaxing phase of 1s is present where the muscles could go to the rest position, removing any residual muscular activation.

Note: All the information for the DVS sensor has been extracted and can be found in the *.npy files. Plastic changes in the brain after human hand allotransplantation

The physiological mechanism after hand transplant was investigated using magnetic resonance imaging and transcranial magnetic stimulation. Somatosensory and motor representations of the upper arm proximal to amputation occupied the hand area before surgery and moved back toward normal position after the surgery. The absent cortical inhibition with amputation increased gradually after surgery. The cortical plastic changes preceded functional recovery and can be used to monitor functional restoration after hand transplant.

Crossing hands behind your back reduces recall of manual action sentences and alters brain dynamics

The experiment involved a 2 Verb (manual, attentional) x 2 Hand posture (front, behind) within-participant design. Half of the participants were assigned randomly to one of the two sets of 120 experimental sentences. The sentences were divided into 12 experimental blocks of 11 sentences each: 5 manual and 5 attentional sentences as experimental materials, and 1 filler sentence that was added at the beginning of each block to discard recall primacy effects and excluded from the analysis. An additional block of 5 sentences was used as practice. Each experimental block consisted of: a) learning phase, including the 10 experimental sentences in random order, plus the initial filler sentence, b) one-minute distractive task, c) recall phase.

For more information about the data, please refer to the Corresponding Author

Hand-and-Half Sword

This sword was modeld after a sword from the 1500's that is on display in the Philadephia Museum of Art. It is not an exact replica, but I really liked the proportions and thought it would make a great piece to model in Blender. "This is one of the finest knightly swords surviving from the late fifteenth century. Particularly outstanding are the mighty forms and harmonious proportions of its pommel and blade, the embellishment of the latter with delicate etched and gilt ornaments, and the overall condition of the entire sword, which retains its original velvet-covered grip." -PMA Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Hand Wheellock Mortar

That is lowpoly pixel perfect replica of German style hand whellock mortar that was used in early XVI. They were used in battles and later for signal firecrackers and firework exhibitions. Model and textures was made in Blender. UV unwraping was made in RizomUV VS. Took me about 20 hours. Goal was to see if i understand correctly how to make pixel perfect models. Most edged are multiple of 0.1 cm so most faces contain integer amount of pixels in it. UV shells snapped to pixels where possible to avoid pixel separation. I would like to paint textures in Substance Painter but there are filtering that blures textures and i havent found a way to disable it. I even tried to rewrite shaders with my programmer friend. So i had to paint metal and roughness textures by hand over the color texture. 252 faces Base color, roughness, metal maps 64x64 Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
