Data from: Tropical tree height and crown allometries for the Barro Colorado Nature Monument, Panama: a comparison of alternative hierarchical models incorporating interspecific variation in relation to life history traits
Tree allometric relationships are widely employed for estimating forest biomass and production and are basic building blocks of dynamic vegetation models. In tropical forests, allometric relationships are often modeled by fitting scale-invariant power functions to pooled data from multiple species, an approach that fails to capture changes in scaling during ontogeny and physical limits to maximum tree size and that ignores interspecific differences in allometry. Here, we analyzed allometric relationships of tree height (9884 individuals) and crown area (2425) with trunk diameter for 162 species from the Barro Colorado Nature Monument, Panama. We fit nonlinear, hierarchical models informed by species traits – wood density, mean sapling growth, or sapling mortality – and assessed the performance of three alternative functional forms: the scale-invariant power function and the saturating Weibull and generalized Michaelis–Menten (gMM) functions. The relationship of tree height with trunk diameter was best fit by a saturating gMM model in which variation in allometric parameters was related to interspecific differences in sapling growth rates, a measure of regeneration light demand. Light-demanding species attained taller heights at comparatively smaller diameters as juveniles and had shorter asymptotic heights at larger diameters as adults. The relationship of crown area with trunk diameter was best fit by a power function model incorporating a weak positive relationship between crown area and species-specific wood density. The use of saturating functional forms and the incorporation of functional traits in tree allometric models is a promising approach for improving estimates of forest biomass and productivity. Our results provide an improved basis for parameterizing tropical plant functional types in vegetation models.

Marc-Anton-Monument
3D model of the Marc Anton monument next to the Secession building in Vienna's 1st district. The large bronze sculpture from 1899/1900 is by Arthur Strasser, who created his work for the Paris World's Fair in 1900. It shows the Roman general and politician Marcus Antonius, comfortably reclined in a triumphal chariot. Antonius is dressed in a tunic and has a toga lying across his body. The chariot is pulled by a team of lions consisting of a male lion in the center and two lionesses. Next to the chariot is a led lioness, who nestles against the chariot with her eyes closed. During a bombing of Vienna on February 7, 1945, it was pierced by bomb fragments and restored in 1956. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Buzludzha (Bulgarian: Бузлуджа, derived from Turkish buzlu "icy") is a historical peak in the Central Balkan Mountains, Bulgaria. The mountain is located to the east of the Shipka Pass near the town of Kazanlak and is a site of historical importance. The peak is 1,441 metres (4,728 feet) high. It was renamed to Hadzhi Dimitar (Хаджи Димитър) in 1942 but remains popularly known as Buzludzha. The summit is built up of limestone and granite. Its slopes are covered with grassy vegetation; its foothills and the neighbouring peaks sustain beech forests. wikipedia Photogrammetry from video Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Roman funeral monument of Mercator, Evora
Roman funeral monument of gray marble dated between the year 151 A.D. and 210 A.D. It belonged to Mercator. In the inscription that still retains on one of its faces we can read: D(is). M(anibus). S(acrum). MERCATOR ANN(orum) XXXII (triginta duorum) VXOR. MARITO MERENTI. POSVIT H(ic). S(itus). E(st). S(it).T(ibi). T(erra). L(evis). The translation according to Encarnação, (1984) would say: "Consecrated to the Manes gods. Here lies Mercator, thirty-two years old. The wife of the deserved husband put. May the earth be light to you". Mercator could be a slave. The funerary monument is of the Cupa type. It is currently preserved in the Frei Manuel do Cenáculo National Museum (Évora, Portugal). Ames Monument Albany County, Wyoming
The Ames Monument is a large pyramid in Albany County, Wyoming, designed by Henry Hobson Richardson and dedicated to brothers Oakes Ames and Oliver Ames, Jr., Union Pacific Railroad financiers. The brothers garnered credit for connecting the nation by rail upon completion of the United States' First Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. Oakes, a U.S. representative to the United States Congress from Massachusetts, asserted near total control of its construction, whereas Oliver became president of the Union Pacific Railroad (1866 - 1871). In 1873 investigators implicated Oakes in fraud associated with financing of the railroad. Congress subsequently censured Oakes, who resigned in 1873. He died soon thereafter. The Ames Monument marked the highest point on the transcontinental railroad at 8,247 feet (2,514 m) However, Union Pacific Railroad Company twice relocated the tracks further south, causing the town of Sherman that arose near the monument to become a ghost town. William McKinley Monument, Black Lives Matter
This is a portion of the William McKinley monument found outside the west side of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio. Protests touched off by the death of George Floyd across the USA also took place in Columbus, typically centered around the Statehouse. I wanted to scan this as I found it: with pools of milk from washing away mace, detergent for washing off tear gas, and snacks/water to support protestors. I know that the monument will eventually be restored to as it was without spray paint. The messages scrawled on it are important, and will hopefully be remembered in America's history as long as William McKinley's words. They were written, spoken, and chanted by Americans who want to see their country change for all Americans' saftey and rights in the face of violent and overwhleming systematic oppression.
