Data from: Initial experiences of US neurologists in practice during the COVID-19 pandemic via survey
<p><strong>Background</strong> The current coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused widespread disease and death. Rapid increases in patient volumes have exposed weaknesses in healthcare systems and challenged our ability to provide optimal patient care and adequate safety measures to healthcare workers (HCWs).</p> <p><strong>Objective</strong> To test the hypothesis that US neurologists were experiencing significant challenges with lack of personal protective equipment (PPE), rapid changes in practice and varying institutional protocols, we conducted this survey study.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong> A 36-item survey was distributed to neurologists around the US through various media platforms.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong> Over a one-week period, 567 responses were received. Of these, 56% practiced in academia. A total of 87% had access to PPE with 45% being asked to reuse PPE due to shortages. The pandemic caused rapid changes in practice, most notably a shift towards providing care by teleneurology, although a third experienced challenges in transitioning to this model. Wide variations were noted both in testing and in the guidance provided for the exposed, sick or vulnerable HCWs. Notably, 59% of respondents felt that their practices were doing what they could, although 56% did not feel safe taking care of patients.</p> <p><strong>Conclusions</strong> Results from our survey demonstrate significant variability in preparedness and responsiveness to the COVID-19 pandemic in neurology, impacted by region, health care setting and practice model. Practice guidelines from professional societies and other national entities are needed to improve protection for physicians and their patients, promote recommended practice changes during a pandemic, and optimize future preparedness for public health emergencies.</p> <p></p><p></p><p></p>
Data from: From trial to implementation, bringing team-based learning online – Duke-NUS Medical School's response to the COVID-19 pandemic
<p>The restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in Duke-NUS Medical School moving all their lessons online. Duke-NUS employs a team-based learning (TBL) pedagogy, which depends heavily on student discussion. In 2015, our university had implemented an eLearning week where lessons were conducted online. Using the already present online assessment processes, the data, insights and student feedback allowed for swift implementation of an online TBL module for home-based learning in response to the pandemic in 2020. These protocols were modified over the weeks, guided by feedback from students and faculty. An analysis of this online TBL module is presented herein.</p>

<p>COVID-19 pandemic has stirred every single individual around, bringing the <br>entire society to a pause in all features. It is affecting businesses, institutions, and health <br>amenities. Even marketing has not been forborne by this pandemic. This situation will have a <br>long-term influence on man-kind, though we could go back to our normal life in a few <br>months. On the other hand, due to the policy of Digital India, every part of the nation is now <br>connected with the internet, having digital gadgets to obtain online information.<br>During this pandemic situation, it is observed that people are spending more and more time <br>online. In fact, according to Forbes, during this pandemic situation internet has surged by 50-<br>70% in the world. Therefore, firms need to precisely determine their online marketing policy <br>and find unique & fine-tuned ways to communicate not only during the time but should also <br>have the long term approach. <br>The present research article critically examines and highlights the opportunities and <br>challenges of Online Marketing in and after the COVID-19 situation, as per the perception of <br>both buyers and suppliers in Jalgaon City. The researcher gathered the polls to manifest the <br>situation of Online Marketing in two parts, the general respondent consisting of the <br>consumers and specialist respondents such as the marketing personnel. A survey of 167 <br>buyers (Consumer) and 37 suppliers (marketing personnel) were conducted using the <br>convenience sampling method.</p>
Alarm management in provisional COVID-19 intensive care units: a retrospective analysis and recommendations for future pandemics
<p>The clinical audit logs were manually collected from the patient monitoring system of four intensive care units (ICU) from a large German hospital via USB stick from the central patient monitoring device. The data consists of the time, bed number, alarm type (i.e., parameter, device, alarm criticality) and alarm handling (e.g., threshold adjustments, use of the pause function). No actual patient identifying data elements were collected. For further deidentification, dates were shifted into the future by a pseudo-random offset for all patients; the bed number was replaced by a pseudonym. Day and night rhythm, weekends, the season and the bed characteristic (double room, single room) were not affected by this process.</p> <p> </p>

Best Practices and Strategies of Teachers in Virtual Learning Instructions Amidst Covid-19 Pandemic
<p><span>This study investigates the demographic profiles, educational backgrounds, and professional development of teachers, alongside their adoption of various teaching strategies in a virtual instructional context. Through analysis of multiple datasets concerning teachers’ age, gender, educational attainment, field of specialization, and the seminars and training they attended, the study evaluates the prevalence of specific teaching practices and their effectiveness. Additionally, using Chi-square tests, the study examines the potential relationships between teacher profiles and the extent of their practice implementations. Findings reveal a workforce characterized by a high level of experience and academic achievement, with a significant gender disparity. Crucially, no significant statistical correlations were found between teacher demographics or professional backgrounds and the teaching practices employed, suggesting a standardized adoption of educational strategies across various teacher profiles. The results emphasize the role of professional development in maintaining teaching efficacy in diverse educational settings, particularly in adapting to virtual platforms.</span></p>
Public parks and the pandemic: how park usage has been affected by COVID-19 policies
<p>Public parks serve an important societal function as recreational spaces for diverse communities of people, with well documented physical and mental health benefits. As such, parks may be crucial for how people have handled effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the increasingly limited recreational opportunities, widespread financial uncertainty, and consequent heightened anxiety. Despite the documented benefits of parks, however, many states have instituted park shutdown orders due to fears that public parks could facilitate SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Here we use geotagged social media data from state, county, and local parks throughout New Jersey to examine whether park visitation increased when the COVID-19 pandemic began and whether park shutdown orders were effective at deterring park usage. We compare park usage during four discrete stages of spring 2020: (1) before the pandemic began, (2) during the beginning of the pandemic, (3) during the New Jersey governor's state-wide park shutdown order, and (4) following the lifting of the shutdown. We find that park visitation increased by 63.4% with the onset of the pandemic. The subsequent park shutdown order caused visitation in closed parks to decline by 76.1% while parks that remained open continued to experience elevated visitation levels. Visitation then returned to elevated pre-shutdown levels when closed parks were allowed to reopen. Altogether, our results indicate that parks continue to provide crucial services to society, particularly in stressful times when opportunities for recreation are limited. Furthermore, our results suggest that policies targeting human behavior can be effective and are largely reversible. As such, we should continue to invest in public parks and to explore the role of parks in managing public health and psychological well-being.</p>

Exposure to the Covid-19 pandemic and generosity in Spain
<p>We report data from an online experiment, which allow us to study how generosity has changed during the initial explosive growth of the Covid-19 pandemic in Spain. We have gathered data from over a six-day period in which Covid-19-associated deaths in Spain, one of the most affected countries in the corresponding period, increased fourfold. In our experiment, participants could donate a fraction of a €100 prize to a charity. Our data are particularly rich in the age distribution and we complement them with daily public information about the Covid-19-related deaths, infections, and hospital admissions. We find correlational evidence that donations decreased in the period under study and scale down with the public information about the life and health impact of the pandemic. The effect is particularly pronounced among older subjects. Our analysis of the mechanisms behind the detected decrease in solidarity suggests that subjects' expectations about others' behavior, perceived mortality risk, and (alarming) information in behavioral adaptation play a key—but independent—role.</p>
