ACCESS-AM2 model output for 2017-2018 MARCUS and 2018-2019 CAMMPCAN RSV Aurora Australis voyages

The dataset includes model output from the ACCESS-AM2 model corresponding to the MARCUS (Measurements of Aerosols, Radiation and Clouds over the Southern Oceans) 2017-2018 voyages and the CAMMPCAN (Chemical and Mesoscale Mechanisms of Polar Cell Aerosol Nucleation) 2018-2019 voyages. The MARCUS voyages included a limited number of CAMMPCAN instruments while the CAMMPCAN voyages included the full suite of instruments.  The model version used was ACCESS-AM2 (Australian Community Climate and Earth-System Simulator - Atmospheric Model Version 2) run with CMIP6 AMIP configuration, nudged with ERA5 reanalysis and full chemistry switched on. The model was configured with a horizontal resolution of 1.25◦ latitude and 1.875◦ longitude and 85 vertical levels. ACCESS-AM2 uses the UK Met Office’s Unified Model Global Atmosphere (UM10.6 GA7.1) as the atmosphere module, the Community Atmosphere Biosphere Land Exchange model version 2.5 (CABLE2.5) as the land-surface module and the Global Model of Aerosol Processes (GLOMAP-mode) as the aerosol module. The data is at daily means spanning 29-10-2017 to 26-03-2018 (149 days) for MARCUS, and 25-10-2018 to 24-03-2019 (151 days) for CAMMPCAN. Digital Elevation Models of Hunga Volcano, Tonga, from the MAX2201 voyage, July-August 2022

This dataset contains digital elevation models (DEM) of the Hunga Volcano complex, These DEM are from the MAX2201 voyage of the USV Maxlimer which surveyed the volcano July-August 2022.Hunga Volcano is a volcanic complex near the island of Tongatapu in the Kingdom of Tonga. The volcano rises from ~2,500 m depth, a caldera at its summit, and two islands, Hunga Tonga and Hunga-Ha'apai, at the on the rim of the caldera. An eruption during December 2014-January 2015 was centered between the islands and combined them into one larger structure named Hunga Tonga – Hunga Ha'apai (HTHH).  HTHH erupted violently on 15th January 2022, sending large clouds of ash into the atmosphere, triggering a tsunami, and reducing the size of the islands of Hunga Tonga and Hunga Ha'apai. As a result of this event, the NIWA-Nippon Foundation Tonga Eruption Seabed Mapping Project (TESMaP) is a multidisciplinary research plan involving geological, oceanographic and biological studies that centered around three objectives: <ol><li>To determine the impacts of volcanic ash on ocean productivity, species composition, and biogeochemical cycling in the water column.</li><li>To determine the immediate nature and extent of the impact of ash fall/turbidity flows on deep-sea sediments and benthic ecosystems.</li><li>To determine the recovery potential of the deep-sea ecosystem.</li></ol>This project involved two survey voyages of the volcano and its surrounding waters. The first was carried out from RV Tangaroa (TAN2206) in April and May 2022 (Mackay et al., 2022) on the flanks of Hunga volcano and its surrounds; and the second was carried out over the summit of Hunga volcano by the USV Maxlimer (MAX2201) in August 2022.TESMaP was funded from a combination of sources including The Nippon Foundation, Japan; the Natural Environmental Research Council, UK, Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology, the Tangaroa Reference Group (TRG) for ship time and the NIWA Oceans Centre. Support was given by The Nippon Foundation Seabed 2030 project and by GEBCO Alumni.

NASA's Voyager 1 Refined Magnetic Field Data (1-10 au)

This dataset contains NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft in situ measurements of the solar wind for the Cartesian RTN magnetic field (nT), heliocentric distance (au), proton density (cm^-3), and bulk flow speed (km/s), with time resolution 1.92 seconds. The original source for this refined dataset can be found via the Goddard Space Flight Center Space Physics Data Facility (SPDF), for 2 second MAG data and hourly averaged plasma data. The range of heliocentric distance covered in this dataset is from 1-10 au and each file contains a time series of magnetic field measurements over two days. Each file is labeled with the start and end day covered by the magnetic field time series. Information regarding heliocentric distance, proton density, and bulk flow speed in each file are represented by averages over the corresponding two-day interval. These averages were taken from the hourly averaged data, provided by SPDF, over the appropriate time covered by the magnetic field time series. The CDF files have global attributes: 'CREATOR', 'AFFILIATION', 'S/C NAME', and 'DATE CREATED'. Variable keys are 'SSEPOCH' (time), 'BR' (radial magnetic field), 'BT' (tangential magnetic field), 'BN' (normal magnetic field), 'R' (heliocentric distance), 'N' (proton density), and 'VSW' (bulk flow speed), with variable attribute 'UNITS'. The 'SSEPOCH' variable are timed measurements in units of seconds since Epoch (January 1, 1970). The CDF files were generated in Python using the spacepy.pycdf library. For more specifics regarding the magnetic field cleaning methods utilized to produce this dataset, please refer to the Master's Thesis "Voyager 1: Cleaning Magnetic Field Data for Turbulence Studies" and contact the author for any questions related to the thesis or access.
