Data from: Speed-mediated properties of schooling
Collectively moving animals often display a high degree of synchronisation and cohesive group-level formations, such as elongated schools of fish. These global patterns emerge as the result of localised rules of interactions. However, the exact relationship between speed, polarisation, neighbour positioning and group structure has produced conflicting results and is largely limited to modelling approaches. This hinders our ability to understand how information spreads between individuals, which may determine the collective functioning of groups. We tested how speed interacts with polarisation and positional composition to produce the elongation observed in moving groups of fish as well as how this impacts information flow between individuals. At the local level, we found that increases in speed led to increases in alignment and shifts from lateral to linear neighbour positioning. At the global level, these increases in linear neighbour positioning resulted in elongation of the group. Furthermore, mean pairwise transfer entropy increased with speed and alignment, implying an adaptive value to forming faster, more polarised and linear groups. Ultimately, this research provides vital insight into the mechanisms underlying elongation of moving animal groups and highlights the functional significance of cohesive and coordinated movement.
Data from: Variations of thermophysical properties and heat transfer performance of nanoparticle-enhanced ionic liquids
The ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([EMIm]Ac) was investigated as a promising absorbent for absorption refrigeration. To improve the thermal conductivity of pure [EMIm]Ac, ionic-liquid-based nanofluids (ionanofluids) were prepared by adding graphene nanoplatelets. The thermal stability of the ionic liquid and ionanofluids was analysed. The variations of the thermal conductivity, viscosity and specific heat capacity resulting from the addition of the graphene nanoplatelets were then measured over a wide range of temperatures and mass fractions. The measured data were fitted with appropriate equations and compared with the corresponding classical models. The results revealed that the ionic liquid and ionanofluids were thermally stable over the measurement range. The thermal conductivity greatly increased with increasing mass fraction, while only slightly changed with increasing temperature. A maximum enhancement in thermal conductivity of 43.2% was observed at a temperature of 373.15 K for the ionanofluid with a mass fraction of 5%. The numerical results revealed that the dispersion of the graphene nanoplatelets in the pure ionic liquid effectively improved the local heat transfer coefficient by up to 28.6%.
Timing Properties and Correctness for Structured Parallel Programs on x86-64 Multicores - Dataset
<p>Multicore architec- tures are increasingly common, but real architectures have unpredictable timing properties, and even correctness is not obvious when systems are built on the relaxed-memory concurrency models that are enforced by commonly-used hardware. This paper takes a rigorous approach to correctness and timing properties, examining common locking protocols from first principles, and extending this through queues to structured parallel constructs. We prove functional correctness and derive simple timing models, extending these for the first time from low-level machine operations to high-level parallel patterns. Our derived high-level timing models for structured parallel programs allow us to accurately predict upper bounds on program execution times on x86-64 multicores. </p> <p> </p> <p>This package contains all the datasets from the paper.</p>

Data from: Analysis of phytochemicals, antioxidants, and antimicrobial properties in non-polar extracts of Magnolia virginiana L. flowers from Saudi Arabia
<div> <p><em><span>Magnolia virginiana</span></em><span> (<em>M. virginiana</em>) L., a native North American plant, is globally cultivated for shade and ornamental purposes, including in Saudi Arabia. This study analyzed the chemical diversity and biological activity of non-polar extracts (n-hexane and diethyl ether) from <em>M. virginiana</em> flowers. The major components identified by </span><span>gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis were aromatic and aliphatic esters, triterpenes, steroids, and phenolic acids. The total phenolic content (TPC) of n-hexane and diethyl ether extracts was determined to be 29.66 and 29.44 mGAE/g, respectively. The extracts showed strong antioxidant activity, with the diethyl ether extract having more reducing power than the <em>n</em>-hexane extract. The diethyl ether extract also showed greater Trolox equivalent values in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays, but the n-hexane extract exhibited higher metal chelating activity (MCA) and free radical scavenging activity (DPPH-SA) levels. The diethyl ether extract displayed stronger antimicrobial potential than the <em>n</em>-hexane extract, particularly against <em>Staphylococcus saprophyticus</em>, with a zone of inhibition diameter (ZID) of 20.0 ± 0.3 mm. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum biocidal concentration (MBC), minimum biofilm inhibitory concentration (MBIC), and minimum biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) values were 0.78, 1.56, 1.56, and 3.125 mg/mL, respectively. </span></p> </div>
