Dataset for a reduced self-calibrating method for rotary table error motions

Ball plate measurement dataset

Two datasets from the measurements of a ball plate for the application of a novel method for the determination of rotary table errors in six degrees of freedom on coordinate measuring machines are provided. The method is based on the measurement of an uncalibrated circular ball plate in different rotational positions on the rotary table, also referred to as the three-rosette method. The novel procedure allows to reduce the number of measurement positions significantly compared to the complete three-rosette method whereas the measurement uncertainty still remains sufficiently small. The method relies on error separation and is self-calibrating which means that no external reference is required. The sophisticated design of a new ball plate allows to determine the rotary table errors in angular steps of only 5°.

Provided are two datasets:

One dataset of a measurement of a ball plate with 12 equidistant balls for the detection of the rotary table errors in steps of 30 degrees, using the complete three-rosette method.

One dataset of a measurement of a ball plate with 12 non-equidistant balls for the detection of the rotary table errors in steps of 5 degrees, using the new reduced three-rosette method.

Acknowledgement

This dataset was obtained within the 19ENG07 Met4Wind project. Crowdsourced dataset of firefly trajectories obtained by automated stereo calibration of 360-degree cameras

Advancements in animal tracking techniques, spanning from migrating mammals to swarming insects, have resulted in remarkable progress in the fields of behavioral ecology and conservation science. Recently, we have devised a method for tracking luminous fireflies in their natural habitat using stereoscopic pairs of 360-degree cameras. This method offers affordability, versatility, and ease of setup; however, the process of camera calibration has remained tedious and time-consuming. Now, we have introduced an enhanced algorithm that achieves spatial and temporal stereo calibration directly from the data, eliminating the need for manual procedures both in the field and during video processing. The algorithm relies on cross-correlation of flashing patterns and numerical estimation of camera pose. Utilizing this improved protocol and processing software, we have compiled an extensive dataset comprising over 100 reconstructed firefly swarms of various species. This data was gathered throughout the United States by numerous contributors following a straightforward protocol. The dataset holds significant potential for advancing our comprehension of firefly collective behavior, facilitating population monitoring, and expanding citizen science initiatives.

NASA's Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) airborne waveform and ground calibration data for the Arctic Spring campaign 2016

The Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) was a scanning lidar developed and used by NASA for observing the Earth’s topography for several scientific applications, foremost of which was the measurement of changing Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, glaciers and sea ice. ATM measured topography to an accuracy of better than 5 centimeters by incorporating measurements from GPS (global positioning system) receivers and inertial navigation system (INS) attitude sensors.

In pressurized aircraft the transmitted laser pulse travels thru the aircraft’s optical window close to the scan mirror. The optical delay fiber that is necessary to separate the transmit pulse and window reflection as well as other system components introduce a laser time-of-flight range bias that needs to be determined from ground calibration measurements. This data set includes ATM airborne waveform data from the T2 lidar, as well as the ground test data and true ranges for the Arctic Spring campaign 2016.

A collection of MATLAB® functions to read ground test waveform and airborne waveform data is available at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6341229

See also:

NASA's Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) ground calibration data for waveform data products: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7225936

User guide for NASA's Airborne Topographic Mapper HDF5 waveform data products: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7246097

Collection of MATLAB® functions for working with ATM (Airborne Topographic Mapper, laser altimetry data products in HDF5 waveform format: https://github.com/mstudinger/ATM-waveform-tools

Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) Bathymetry Toolkit (MATLAB® functions): https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6341229

All ATM data products are freely available at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) at https://nsidc.org/data/icebridge and can also be downloaded from the NASA Earthdata portal at https://earthdata.nasa.gov/

The ILATMW1B airborne waveform data is available at NSIDC: https://nsidc.org/data/ILNSAW1B/versions/1 (narrow swath) https://nsidc.org/data/ILATMW1B/versions/1 (wide swath)

NEW REFERENCE HVDC DIVIDER FOR THE CALIBRATION OF TESTING EQUIPMENT UP TO 1600 kV

An international metrology project named “EMPIR 19ENG02 FutureEnergy” started in June 2020, is developing, building, and evaluating measurement equipment and systems for the UHV level. This paper describes the work on a new reference UHVDC voltage divider for the calibration of testing equipment up to at least 1600 kV. This divider has a modular design and target expanded measurement uncertainty of 200 μV/V. The need for such measurement systems results from new measurement methods for future energy transmission grids. After the construction of the UHVDC voltage divider, the targeted measurement uncertainty of 200 μV/V was successfully at 1200 kV during a measurement campaign at PTB. The linearity and temperature dependence of the UHVDC divider modules as well as the overall results of this new divider are included in this work. This work will lead to new calibration and measurement capabilities (CMC) for traceability of the designed divider systems for participating national metrology institutes (NMI).
