Transport effects of twist-angle disorder in mesoscopic twisted bilayer graphene

Magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene is a tunable material with remarkably flat energy bands near the Fermi level, leading to fascinating transport properties and correlated states at low temperatures. However, grown pristine samples of this material tend to break up into landscapes of twist-angle domains, strongly influencing the physical properties of each individual sample. This poses a significant problem to the interpretation and comparison between measurements obtained from different samples. In this work, we study numerically the effects of twist-angle disorder on quantum electron transport in mesoscopic samples of magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene. We find a significant property of twist-angle disorder that distinguishes it from onsite-energy disorder: it leads to an asymmetric broadening of the energy-resolved conductance. The magnitude of the twist-angle variation has a strong effect on conductance, while the number of twist-angle domains is of much lesser significance. We further establish a relationship between the asymmetric broadening and the asymmetric density of states of twisted bilayer graphene at angles smaller than the first magic angle. Our results show that the qualitative differences between the types of disorder in the energy-resolved conductance of twisted bilayer graphene samples can be used to characterize them at temperatures above the critical temperatures of the correlated phases, enabling systematic experimental studies of the effects of the different types of disorders also on the other properties such as the competition of the different types of correlated states appearing at lower temperatures.

The provided repository contains all data and scripts to reproduce the figures of the manuscript.

Data underpinning "Localisation and Sub-Diffusive Transport in Quantum Spin Chains With Dilute Disorder"

It is widely believed that many-body localisation in one dimension is fragile and can be easily destroyed by thermal inclusions, however there are still many open questions regarding the stability of the localised phase and under what conditions it breaks down. Here I construct models with dilute disorder, which interpolate between translationally invariant and fully random models, in order to study the breakdown of localisation. This opens up the possibility to controllably increase the density of thermal regions and examine the breakdown of localisation as this density is increased. At strong disorder, the numerical results are consistent with commonly-used diagnostics for localisation even when the concentration of thermalising regions is high. At moderate disorder, I present evidence for slow dynamics and sub-diffusive transport across a large region of the phase diagram, suggestive of a `bad metal' phase. This suggests that dilute disorder may be a useful effective model for studying Griffiths effects in many-body localisation, and perhaps also in a wider class of disordered systems.

Griffiths Phase, Re-Entrant Spin-Glass Behaviour and Schottky Anomaly in Anti-Site Disordered Double Perovskite Pr2MnNiO6

In the present study, the effect of anti-site disorder is explored on the magnetic properties of Pr2MnNiO6. Due to anti-site disorder, a reduced TC preceded by a Griffith phase has been observed. At low temperatures, we also report the development of the unconventional spin glass phase in co-existence with the cluster-like ferromagnetic order. The signature of the re-entrant spin glass phase is revealed by the frequency-dependent ac-susceptibility measurements. The spin glass behavior is also supported by the slow decay of thermo-remanent magnetization. A broad Schottky anomaly has been observed in the specific heat data near 10 K, along with a linear spin-glass term that was suppressed in the magnetic field of 5T. The analysis of the specific heat data indicates the presence of true singlet state of ground state of Pr3+ in Pr2MnNiO6

GDNF gene therapy for alcohol use disorder in male non-human primates

These the minimal data sets that were utilized in analysis and interpretation for the manuscript "GDNF gene therapy treatment for alcohol use disorder" by Matthew Ford et al. These data sets were collected during a study to evaluate the utility of viral-based GDNF expression in the ventral tegmental area to reduce alcohol intake and prevent relapse in a primate model of alcohol use disorder, and ultimately the feasibility of GDNF as a gene therapy for alcohol use disorder. There are data sets on behavior, biochemical analyses, and cyclic voltammetry.

Drawing the Boundaries Around Borderline Personality Disorder: A Science Mapping Study

Objective: The objective of this study was to conduct a bibliometric investigation of borderline personality disorder (BPD) including performance analysis, science mapping, and network visualization. Methods: Publications relating to BPD were retrieved from the Web of Science™ by entering the term “borderline personality disorder(all-fields)” and analyzed with the Bibliometrix.. Results: A total of 10,368 documents on BPD were published from 1980 to 2022. Publication volume increased by an average annual rate of 13.7%. The total number of citations of the period was 361,184, with an average citation per document of 34.8. Articles in “medical” journals tended to cite articles in the “medical” ones, while those in “psychological” journals did the same with their “psychological” counterparts. The list of the most cited articles includes predominantly studies on several modalities of psychotherapy for BPD. Articles about psychotherapy formed a separate co-citation cluster from the main body of publications and authors with stronger research imprinting on cognitive, dialectical, and mentalization- and schema-based psychotherapies formed a separate cluster from other authors, possibly reflecting the pivotal role played by psychotherapies in the treatment of BPD. European countries collaborated among themselves, while the USA stood relatively apart. German, Dutch, and Swiss institutions, headed by the Heidelberg University, cooperated mainly among themselves while the USA ones formed separated networks around Harvard University. Conclusions: Our results indicate that research on BPD is a conceptually and thematically heterogeneous, geographically and institutionally diversified, integrated collaborative enterprise.
