Deir Al-Mukhraqa Carmelite Monastery - Israel

Deir Al-Mukhraqa Carmelite Monastery on Mount Carmel in Northern Israel, next to the Mediterranean Sea. Israel Inside Out says: "Perched high on the eastern wooded peak of Mt. Carmel, the Carmelite Monastery of the Mukhraqa offers stunning views of northern Israel and beyond from its roof top lookout. Located southeast of Haifa on the same mountain range, the monastery was built in 1868 and belongs to the Catholic order of Barefoot Carmelites. The Mukhraqa is dedicated to the site where the Prophet Elijah competed with 450 priests of Baal sent by King Ahab and then slew them. In the courtyard in front of the monastery is a statue of Elijah, sword raised over his head as he stands over the bearded figure of a priest of Baal. The name Mukhraqa means burnt or scorched in Arabic, in reference to the way in which, according Kings 1, 18, the Prophet Elijah's offering was consumed – it was soaking wet and everything was consumed including the alter, earth and all by a fire sent from heaven." Mount Carmel – North Israel by Mediterranean Sea

Mount Carmel is a coastal mountain range in northern Israel stretching from the Mediterranean Sea towards the southeast. A number of towns are situated there, most notably the city of Haifa, Israel's third largest city, located on the northern and western slopes. The range is a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Due to the lush vegetation on the sloped hillside, and many caves on the steeper side, Carmel became the haunt of criminals. In ancient Canaanite culture, high places were frequently considered to be sacred, and Mount Carmel appears to have been no exception. In mainstream Jewish, Christian, and Islamic thought, Elijah is associated with the mountain, and he is regarded as having sometimes resided on the mountain. The Bible's book of 1 Kings 18, records a showdown between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. In that account, the God of Elijah sends fire from heaven to consume a sacrifice of testing, proving which diety is the true and living one. <p>In the early morning of October 7, 2024, terrorists launched an attack with rockets and death squads on Israel. For several days, an enormous number of rockets was launched by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza strip on Israel.</p> <p>This is a real live video recording of escaping from an apartment in Rehovot, Israel, to the nearby Luftschutzbunker (Shelter).</p> <div> <div>This was one of the massive (Qassam) rocket attacks by Hamas terrorists launched from Gaza strip towards north of Israel, here at Rehovot near Weizmann Institute of Science. The rockets were intercepted by the iron dome system. Several families with children were already inside the Shelter.</div> </div> <div>The scene was recorded in the evening of 7th October 2023. Several attacks happened before that first day of the 2023 Israel-Hamas war. The earliest was 06:30 am in the morning on the Shabat.</div> <div>The rocket attacks stopped at night after the Israeli Air Force had begun raids on the Gaza strip.</div>

Telerobotic intergroup contact: Acceptance and preferences in Israel and Palestine - R Data and code.

<p>We present telerobotics as a novel form of intergroup contact to reduce prejudice and bring about positive social change between groups in conflict. Based on our previous conceptual framework and set of design hypotheses, we conducted a survey that confronts the theory with empirical data on acceptance and preferences of the telerobotic intergroup contact approach in Israel and Palestine. The results shed light on differences in attitudes between the groups and on design considerations for telerobotics when used for intergroup contact. The study serves as a foundation for implementing this novel method of technology-enhanced conflict resolution in the field.</p> <p>The data was analyzed in R software.
