ASTEROID NAMES AND DISCOVERY V4.0

This data set includes names, designations, and discovery circumstances for the numbered asteroids, sorted in order of number. This data set supercedes past versions of both the ASTNAMES and DISCOVER asteroid data sets. It represents an extension of a file originally prepared by Pilcher (1979) [PILCHER1979] for the Tucson Revised Index of Asteroid Data (TRIAD) and updated in Pilcher (1989) [PILCHER1989] for the Asteroids II database. The data for asteroids numbered 4045 and greater were either provided by the Minor Planet Center or extracted from the Minor Planet Circulars, which are published by the Minor Planet Center on behalf of Commission 20 of the International Astronomical Union. In some cases, an institution or survey is credited with the discovery rather than an individual. No attempt has been made to correct the inconsistencies in the presentation of names (that is, some names are given with initials and some are not), or in the way locations are specified (for example, Pilcher distinguishes between the Lowell Observatory and Anderson Mesa locations in Flagstaff).

A system of standard stars was established to aid in the calibration of the ECAS photometric system. This dataset includes the standard magnitudes and color indices for the eight-color standard stars which were then used to calibrate the eight color asteroid survey data. The wavelength range covered is from .33 to 1.04 micrometers.

HIGH-INCLINATION ASTEROID FAMILIES V1.0

This data set contains the high-inclination asteroid families of Gil-Hutton (2006). A data set of 3652 high-inclination numbered asteroids was analyzed to search for dynamical families. The basic data set was the list of 3697 asteroid synthetic proper elements taken from the Asteroid Dynamic Site, March 2005 version; Knezevic and Milani (2000). For this analysis, only asteroids with sine of proper inclination greater than 0.3 were used.

SUB-KILOMETER ASTEROID DIAMETER SURVEY (SKADS) V1.0

The Sub-Kilometer Asteroid Diameter Survey (SKADS) (Gladman et al. 2009) acquired good-quality orbital and absolute magnitude (H) determinations for a sample of small main-belt asteroids in order to study the orbital and size distribution beyond H = 15, down to sub-kilometer sizes (H > 18). Based on six observing nights over an 11-night baseline, SKADS detected, measured photometry for, and linked observations of 1087 asteroids which have one-week time baselines or more. This data set contains the astrometry, photometry, and orbits of the 1087 asteroids detected by SKADS.

SEVEN COLOR ASTEROID SURVEY V1.0

The Seven-color Asteroid Survey (SCAS) was conducted at the IRTF on Mauna Kea, Hawaii from 1992 to 1994. It consists of photometry in seven filters from 0.9 to 2.3 microns, lettered A through G in order of increasing wavelength. The bandpasses were specifically designed to capture the essential mineralogic information present in infrared asteroid spectra. The filter bandpasses were chosen to avoid the atmospheric water features at 1.4 and 1.9 microns.
