Soil moisture data across a Florida scrub and sandhill landscape collected from 1998-2018 at Archbold Biological Station

This project was initiated 1998 to examine the variation in percent soil moisture in relation to rainfall, vegetation type, gaps, and time-since-fire in upland habitats at Archbold Biological Station, in south-central Florida. Data were collected from 78 sampling points across four vegetation types (rosemary scrub, scrubby flatwoods, oak-hickory scrub and sandy roadsides) with different time-since-fires (2-3 years or >20 years post-fire). In January 2006, 30 additional sampling points were added to include a fourth vegetation type (southern ridge sandhill). Data were collected at three depths below the soil surface (10, 50 and 90 cm) weekly (1 October 1998 – 9 June 1999), then bi-weekly (23 June 1999 – 3 October 2001), monthly (17 October 2001 – 15 June 2011), and every other month thereafter until the project ended on 16 July 2018.

Water quality data collected by the Citizen-Led Environmental Observatory (CLEO) from multiple nearshore sites in Lake Lillinonah, Connecticut, USA, 2010-current

Included in this data package are water quality data from the Citizen-Led Environmental, a Observatory (CLEO) volunteer water quality monitoring program run by Friends of the Lake (FOTL) and Fairfield University at Lake Lillinonah, Connecticut, USA. The program has been operational since 2008 (data available 2010-current). Trained volunteer monitors collect data from dock locations across the lake on water temperature, Secchi disk depth, water color, presence of floating woody debris, recreation potential, trash, particle type and surface scum. Volunteers collect data between 3:00 and 7:00 PM three times per week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. In addition to the variables listed above, CLEO volunteers collect routine water samples on a biweekly basis, as well as any time there is a notable algal bloom. The routine samples are analyzed for nutrient (total nitrogen and total phosphorus) concentrations as well as concentrations of the cyanobacterial toxin microcystin. The blooms samples are analyzed for microcystin only. These data are available in EDI packages EDI568 (nutrients) and EDI569 (toxins).

High-frequency sensor data from a YSI 600 OMS Optical Monitoring System (every 15 minutes) and Sontek IQ (every 10 minutes) in a meadow reach at White Clay Creek from February through December 2016. Funded by NSF and DEB as part of the LTREB grant to study the recovery of stream ecosystem structure and function during reforestation, Stroud Water Research Center. The parameters in this data package are water temperature, depth, turbidity, conductivity, specific conductance, water pressure, discharge, rivers ection area, and velocity. Data are presented in four tables which likely have significant overlap. The raw data table presents the data exactly as it was downloaded from the Aquarius Database. It is formatted as a "wide" human-readable table. IQ_stream and YSI_stream present only the data from the respective sensors. These tables are gapfilled so that there are no time gaps. Formatted as a "wide" human-readable table. The full_stream table is all of the data, raw and cleaned, from both sensors. It is organized as a long, tidy table and is optimal for machine readability. All of the parameters and table are further explained in the metadata.

Meteorological data collected on Toolik Lake during the ice free season since 1989 to 2009, Arctic LTER, Toolik Research Station, Alaska.

Yearly file describing the metological conditions on Toolik Lake (named the Toolik Lake Climate station), adjacent to the Toolik Field Research Station (68 38'N, 149 36'W). This is a floating climate station and should not be confused with the Toolik Field Station Climate site (TFS Climate Station or Met Station) which is a terrestrial station (located on land). Note that this land station has been called the "Toolik Main Climate Station", and the station on the lake is located where the main lake sampling site is located so it has also been called the Toolik Lake Main Climate Station. Measurements include air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction, wind speed, and radiation.

Monitoring permafrost thaw in Denali National Park and Preserve: year one of data collection 2013

Transects were established at six sites in the Toklat river basin, Denali National Park and Preserve. This was the fist year of what will be a long-term monitoring project of permafrost and ecosystem characteristics. Transects were co-located with known thaw subsidence (thermokarst) features and run from outside (relatively undisturbed tundra) through the feature.

Nutrient data from the Peat Collapse-Saltwater Intrusion Field Experiment from brackish and freshwater sites within Everglades National Park, Florida (FCE LTER), collected from October 2014 to September 2016

With sea level rise increasing, saltwater intrusion into low-lying coastal wetlands is likely to occur. We simulated saltwater intrusion into an Everglades marsh through monthly additions of elevated salinity water. Monthly porewater nutrients were taken at 15 cm depth from a brackish and a freshwater marsh. Porewater physicochemistry was measured 24 hours after dosing. Collection occurred from Oct 2014 - Sep 2016. The collected water was then analyzed for temperature, conductivity, salinity, pH, alkalinity, chloride, DOC, NH4, SO4, TDN, SRP, TDP, and sulfide. Leaf nutrient and root biomass data from the Peat Collapse-Saltwater Intrusion Field Experiment within Everglades National Park (FCE), collected from October 2014 to September 2016

Throw trap and electrofishing data collected during 1996–2022 from the Everglades, Florida, United States for the publication "Contrasting invasion histories and effects of three non-native fishes observed with long-term monitoring data"

This dataset was used to analyze the effects of three non-native fishes in the Florida Everglades for a publication in the journal Biological Invasions. The dataset incorporates plot-level mean densities (# of individuals per square meter) of common aquatic animals collected during 1996–2022 from 17 sites across three regions of the Everglades: Taylor Slough, Shark River Slough, and Water Conservation Area 3A. Prey species included are nine common small fishes and three common decapod species (two crayfish species and grass shrimp). The dataset includes throw trap data on three predator taxa: African Jewelfish (Hemichromis letourneuxi), Mayan Cichlids (Mayaheros uruphthalmus), and sunfishes (Lepomis spp.). Annual indices of mean wet season electrofishing catch-per-unit-effort of Asian Swamp Eels (Monopterus albus/javanesis), Mayan Cichlids, sunfishes, and the three other large 'top predator' fishes (Amia calva, Lepisosteus platyrhincus, Micropterus salmoides) are included for plots where electrofishing was performed from 1997-2021. Hydrologic measures used in analyses and R code used to conduct analyses are also included.

12.5 kHz raw echosounder data collected on the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition during the austral summer of 2016/2017.

<p><strong>Dataset abstract</strong></p> <p>These data consist of raw echosounder observations collected during ACE (Leg1-Leg3) using an EK80 WBT operating at 12.5 kHz. The instrument was calibrated at South Georgia during the expedition (Leg 3) and corrections were applied prior to calculation of the volume backscattering strength (Sv). The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was analysed and was deemed very poor at depths greater than 1000 m. Therefore, only data collected between the transducer depth (8.4 m) and 1000 m were archived. Sv values within this depth range that had poor SNRs (&lt;2) were deemed to be bad data and set to a value of NA. Observations were made using a pulse duration of 16.384 ms (c. 24 m) and are therefore not suitable for fine-scale studies (e.g. analysis of krill swarms).
