Data from: Comparative studies on water- and vapor-based hydrothermal carbonization: process analysis

Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) reactor systems used to convert wet organic wastes into value-added hydrochar are generally classified in the literature as liquid water-based (HTC) or vapor-based (VTC). However, the distinction between the two is often ambiguous. In this paper, we theoretically developed models for predicting reactor pressure, volume fraction of liquid water, and water distribution between phases as a function of temperature.

Figure 2 in Tyrannosaurus rex runs again: a theoretical analysis of the hypothesis that full-grown large theropods had a locomotory advantage to hunt in a shallow-water environment

Figure 2. Depiction of the measurements (a, b, h) taken from figures in the paper by Bates et al. (2009) and the methods to estimate wetted areas and volumes from cylindrical slices. A representative example of the methods (best reconstruction of Tyrannosaurus rex BHI 3033) is shown. The silhouettes were modified from fig. 5 in the paper by Bates et al. (2009). A, cranial view and lateromedial measurements. B, right lateral view and anteroposterior measurements. C, a generic cylindrical slice and the equations to estimate the contribution to the total areas and volumes.

Figure 1 in Tyrannosaurus rex runs again: a theoretical analysis of the hypothesis that full-grown large theropods had a locomotory advantage to hunt in a shallow-water environment

Figure 1. Schematic representation of the hunting scenario. Tyrannosaurus rex is wading in mode II, while Edmontosaurus annectens and Struthiomimus sedens are already engaged in mode IV, corresponding to surface swimming.

Meta-analysis data for Microcystin as a Biogeochemical Cycle: pools, fluxes, and fates of the cyanotoxin in inland waters

We constructed a conceptual biogeochemical model for microcystin through a comprehensive literature synthesis, identifying four major pools and nine major fluxes in lakes that also connect to the terrestrial environment. We also performed a literature synthesis, collating measurements of various pools and fluxes of microcystin in inland waters from the literature. A subset of those values were used in an analysis of microcystin detection for field surveys of waterbodies and a random effects model to estimate the mean and 95% confidence interval for various microcystin pools and fluxes in lakes.

USFS Durham Lab water analysis method detection limit (MDL) limit of quantification (LOQ), 2010 - present

This dataset documents limits in the precision of water analyses produced by the USFS, NRS lab in Durham, NH. Generally precision of water analyses is limited at low concentrations due to limits of detection or limits of precise quantification. These data were gathered as part of the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study (HBES). The HBES is a collaborative effort at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, which is operated and maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station.
