2022 Cancer Incidence and Mortality in North Carolina
The contents of the 2022 Cancer Incidence and Mortality in North Carolina annual report represent a summary of the information collected on cancer diagnoses and deaths in 2022. The information includes incidence, and mortality counts and rates for all cancers by county, race, gender, and age. The primary goal of this report is to provide cancer data to healthcare planners, researchers, and the general public. The numbers reported here are for patients under the age of 44.
Cancer incidence and treatment utilization patterns at a regional cancer center in Tanzania from 2008-2016: Initial report of 2,772 cases
This descriptive, retrospective study reviewed all cancer cases recorded in the Bugando Cancer Registry (BCR), a clinical and pathology based registry at the only cancer referral hospital in the region. Primary tumor site, method of diagnosis, HIV status, and cancer treatment were reported. Using census data, the 2012 GLOBOCAN estimates for Tanzania were scaled to the Lake Zone and adjusted for 2016 population growth. These estimates were then compared to BCR cases using one-sample tests of proportion. Here we report the pediatric cancer cases.
Cancer in Utah: Incidence and Mortality Statistics through 2021
In this report, we provide updated cancer statistics for the state of Utah through 2021, the most recent year available for complete analysis. We summarize the number of new cancer diagnoses and deaths for 2021 and age-adjusted incidence and mortality rates for the period 2017-2021. We also present five-year relative survival estimates for the 2020 period, the most recent year available.

Cutaneous Melanoma in Alpine Population: Incidence Trends and Clinicopathological Profile
<p>Previous studies associated high-level exposure to ultraviolet radiation with a greater risk of cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM). This study focuses on the changing incidence of CMM over time (from 1990 to 2017) in the Veneto region of Northeast Italy, and its Alpine area (the province of Belluno). The clinicopathological profile of CMM by residence is also considered. A joinpoint regression analysis was performed to identify significant changes in the yearly incidence of CMM by sex and age. For each trend, the average annual percent change (AAPC) was also calculated. In the 2017 CMM cohort, the study includes a descriptive analysis of the disease's categorical clinicopathological variables. In the population investigated, the incidence of CMM has increased significantly over the last 30 years. The AAPC in the incidence of CMM was significantly higher among Alpine residents aged 0-49 than for the rest of the region's population (males: 6.9 versus 2.4; females 7.7 versus 2.7, respectively). Among the Alpine residents, the AAPC was 3.35 times greater for females aged 0-49 than for people aged 50+. The clinicopathological profile of CMM was significantly associated with the place of residence. Over three decades, the Veneto population has observed a significant increase in the incidence of CMM, and its AAPC. Both trends have been markedly more pronounced among Alpine residents, particularly younger females. While epidemiology and clinicopathological profiles support the role of UV radiation in CMM, the young age of this CMM-affected female population points to other possible host-related etiological factors. These findings also confirm the importance of primary and secondary prevention strategies.</p>
Sex Differences in Cutaneous Melanoma: Incidence, Clinicopathological Profile, Survival, and Costs
<p>This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of sex-related characteristics of cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM), with special reference to its incidence, clinicopathological profile, overall survival, and treatment-related costs. This retrospective cohort study included all 1,279 CMM patients who were registered in 2015 in the Veneto Cancer Registry (a population-based registry including all 4,900,000 regional residents). The by-sex comparisons included tumor stage and site, histological subtype, and other clinical-pathological variables. A Cox regression analysis was used to test the association between sex and survival, adjusting for the main covariates. Treatment costs were calculated by linking patients with several administrative regional databases. Age-specific incidence rates were significantly higher for men among people >50 years old. For men, the trunk was the most common primary site (59.3%), whereas for women the lower limbs (32.1%) were the most common primary site, followed by the trunk (31.8%), which was lower than for men (<em>p</em> < 0.001). At presentation, the frequency of early stage CMM was higher among women, who also featured a significantly lower risk of death (<em>p</em> = 0.016), after adjusting for covariates. Men also incurred higher costs for melanoma treatment in the first year after their diagnosis. Among younger adults, CMM was more common in women, whereas among older adults, it was more common in men. Sex also influences patients' histopathological characteristics at diagnosis. Women had better overall survival after adjusting for demographic, pathological, and clinical profiles. The costs of treatment were also lower for women with CMM.</p>

Abstract ======== The Mercury Dual Imaging System (MDIS) consists of two cameras, a Wide Angle Camera (WAC) and a Narrow Angle Camera (NAC), mounted on a common pivot platform. This dataset includes Map Projected High- Incidence Angle Basemap Illuminated from the West RDRs (HIWs) which comprise a global map of I/F measured by the NAC or WAC filter 7 (both centered near 750 nm) during the the Extended Mission at high incidence angles to accentuate subtle topography, photometrically normalized to a solar incidence angle (i) = 30 degrees, emission angle (e) = 0 degrees, and phase angle (g) = 30 degrees at a spatial sampling of 256 pixels per degree. The HIW data set is a companion to the Map Projected High-Incidence Angle Basemap Illuminated from the East RDR (HIE) data set. Together the two data sets are intended to detect and allow the mapping of subtle topography. They complement a Basemap Data Record (BDR) data set also composed of WAC filter 7 and NAC images acquired at moderate/high solar incidence angles centered near 68 degrees (changed to 74 degrees in the find end-of-mission data delivery), and an Low Incidence Angle (LOI) data set also composed of WAC filter 7 and NAC images acquired at lower incidence centered near 45 degrees, analogous to the geometry used for color imaging. The map is divided into 54 'tiles', each representing the NW, NE, SW, or SE quadrant of one of the 13 non-polar or one of the 2 polar quadrangles or 'Mercury charts' already defined by the USGS. Each tile also contains 5 backplanes: observation ID; BDR metric, a metric used to determine the stacking order of component images, modified for the higher incidence angle centered near 78 degrees; solar incidence angle; emission angle; and phase angle.

International Incidence of Childhood Cancer
International Incidence of Childhood Cancer (IICC) is a collaborative project of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the International Association of Cancer Registries (IACR). This project was co-sponsored by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The objective is to disseminate the available data on the incidence of cancer in children around the world. This will be achieved through the publication of a monograph, the third volume in the IICC series (IICC-3). Both print and electronic versions are envisaged, with the first results to appear in 2017. Data from 440 registries in five continents have been collected, validated, analysed, and evaluated. More than 300 registries met the inclusion criteria and provided high-quality comparable datasets and they were selected for publication in IICC-3 after rigorous peer review by the IICC-3 Editors.

<p>This record contains raw data related to article " Incidence and predictors of blood transfusions in one-stage bilateral total hip arthroplasty: a single center prospective cohort study".</p> <p>Introduction: The safety of performing one-stage bilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains controversial among the orthopedic community. The aim of the present study was to determine the incidence and predictors of blood transfusions in one-stage bilateral THA performed in a high-volume single center. Patients and methods: Patients undergoing one-stage bilateral THA between 2015 and 2017 were included. The following data were collected from the hospital medical records: age, body mass index (BMI), American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) score, smoking habit, comorbidities, preoperative serum creatinine, serum iron, ferritin, C-reactive protein (CRP), and hemoglobin (Hb). The Hb levels at postoperative day 1 and 3 were also collected. Results: A total of 367 patients with a mean age of 56.1 years (range, 32-79) were included. Forty-eight (13%) patients were transfused with a mean number of 1.6 blood units per patient. In non-transfused patients, the average Hb drop was 3.6 (SD ±1) g/dL and 4.9 g/dL (SD ±1.3) at postoperative day 1 and day 3, respectively. The average preoperative Hb level was 14.64 (SD ±1.21) g/dL. In the univariate logistic regression, the following variables were predictive factors for transfusions: male gender (OR 0.447; P=0.01), preoperative hemoglobin level (OR 0.622; P=0.001), preoperative ferritin level (OR 0.995; P=0.016), BMI (OR 0.837; P=0.001), cardiopathy (OR 3.534; P=0.046), preoperative anaemia (OR 10.54; P=0.011). In the multivariate logistic regression only preoperative hemoglobin level (OR 0.666; P=0.01), and BMI (OR 0.868; P=0.007) were statistically significant.</p> <p>Conclusions: The incidence of blood transfusions after one-stage bilateral THA is low in non-anemic patients operated on at a high-volume arthroplasty center. The main predictors of blood transfusions are preoperative Hb level and BMI.</p>
