Verraco de Las Cogotas, Ávila.
El verraco de Las Cogotas recibe este nombre por su lugar de hallazgo, el Castro de Las Cogotas (Cardeñosa, Ávila), en 1875. Este ejemplar fue identificado como un jabalí, aunque como verracos se entienden, genéricamente, las esculturas monolíticas de toro o cerdo que tanto esculpieron los vettones; difundieron como monumentos por su área de poblamiento; adaptaron a las nuevas modas de Roma tras la conquista; y mantuvieron luego, siendo vettones romanizados a través de los siglos. Es uno de sus rasgos culturales más peculiares y su manifestación estética más original. Incluso se ha llegado a definir la Segunda Edad del Hierro o Protohistoria de la zona como «cultura de los verracos». Los verracos de Las Cogotas han tenido un papel protagonista en esta definición. Comparison among three different Digital Surface Models and their respective hydraulic outcomes in the flood-prone urban area of Navaluenga (Ávila, Spain)
<p>Three different Digital Surface Models (DSMs) generated from LiDAR data are presented. The LiDAR information has been considered as raw data (DSM3) and subjected to some transformations to better represent the urban environment (DSM1). DSM2 is an intermediate state between DSM1 and DSM3. </p> <p>On the other hand, a hydraulic model has been run for each DSM and for two return periods (25 and 500 years), obtaining in all cases the graphical outputs of depths, velocities, Froude numbers and hazard. </p> <p>The different DSMs are named DSM1, DSM2 and DSM3, which can be downloaded in TIN format. None of the previous records (except D. youngii) have exact coordinates, however, we shaded the municipality on each department in which they were recorded. The blue shaded area indicates the localities of N. lanatus captured in the municipality of Zamorano (municipality of San Antonio de Oriente) in the department of Francisco Morazán in central Honduras, and in La Cueva del Viejo in the department of La Paz in western Honduras. The big yellow-shaded area refers to two localities in which L. yerbabuenae was recorded in the municipality of Nacaome in the department of Valle in southern Honduras by Lee and Bradley (1992) and R. D. Bradley in 1991 (GBIF.org 2019). The small brown-shaded areas in southern Honduras refer to the localities in which M. Sandiford reported one L. yerbabuenae from the municipality of Santa Ana de Yusguare in the department of Choluteca (GBIF.org 2019). Finally, the purple point refers to the exact location of D. youngii recorded in the department of Colón in northeastern Honduras. Abbreviations as follows: La Paz (LP), Nacaome (NC), San Antonio de Oriente (SAO), and Santa Ana de Yusguare (SAY). There is no specific area highlighted in La Paz because there are several caves known as Cueva del Viejo.
