Morphological phytoplankton counts for the SOMLIT-Astan time-series (2007-2017)
<p>The present text file includes morphologic microscopic counts for SOMLIT-Astan station (Western English Channel). Samples (250 mL) of natural seawater intended for the acquisition of microscopic counts were preserved with acid Lugol’s iodine (Sournia, 1978, Guilloux et al. 2013), stored in the dark, and further processed between 15 days and up to 1 year after sampling.</p> <p>The morphological taxa contingency table was carefully examined to detect inconsistencies (e.g., abrupt changes in cell counts over the time series), and taxa for which identification was uncertain were grouped into broader taxonomic categories. For example, <em>Fragilaria</em> and <em>Brockmaniella</em> or <em>Cylindrotheca closterium</em> and <em>Nitzschia longissima</em> which are difficult to distinguished between each other, were considered in association in the same group of microscopic counts. The final morphological dataset consisted of counts of 146 taxonomical entities (taxa larger than 10µm in size) across 185 dates from 2007 to 2017.</p> <p>Raw microscopic counts were regularly stored in a local MS-Access database and uploaded in the RESOMAR PELAGOS (<a href="http://abims.sb-roscoff.fr/pelagos/">http://abims.sb-roscoff.fr/pelagos/</a>) national database.</p>

Eight Mile Lake Research Watershed, Carbon in Permafrost Experimental Heating Research (CiPEHR): Dissolved Organic Carbon 2007-2017
The Carbon in Permafrost Experimental Heating Research (CiPEHR) project addresses the following questions: 1) Does ecosystem warming cause a net release of C from the ecosystem to the atmosphere?, 2) Does the decomposition of old C, that comprises the bulk of the soil C pool, influence ecosystem C loss?, and 3) How do winter and summer warming alone, and in combination, affect ecosystem C exchange? We are answering these questions using a combination of field and laboratory experiments to measure ecosystem carbon balance and radiocarbon isotope ratios at a warming experiment located in an upland tundra field site near Healy, Alaska in the foothills of the Alaska Range. How have dissolved organic carbon concentrations and radiocarbon ages changed over interannual and seasonal time? How do DOC concentrations correlate with environmental variables, such as precipitation, thaw depth, water table depth, and soil temperatures? This dataset contains dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations and radiocarbon values from streams draining a permafrost research site at Eight Mile Lake, AK. Several sampling years include multiple annual sampling dates, while other years include only one sampling date. Not every location was sampled every year, and not every parameter was measured every year. The dataset will continue into 2017 but whether it will be maintained after that year is unknown.

Harvest load gradesheet data for pistachios 2007-2017
<p class="MsoNormal">The navel orangeworm, <em>Amyelois transitella,</em> is the primary pest of pistachios in California. The first <em>A. transitella</em>outbreak of the twenty-first century occurred in 2007 and a total of five outbreaks occurred between 2007-2017 (total insect damage > 1%). This study used processor information to identify the nut factors associated with the outbreaks. Processor grade sheets were used to explore the relationship between the variables time of harvest, percent nut split, percent nut dark staining, percent nut shell damage and percent adhering hull for Low Damage (82,537 loads) and High Damage years, (92,307 loads). Total insect damage (<span>±</span>SD) for the Low Damage years averaged 0.005<span>±</span>0.01 and in High Damage years was three times higher, 0.015<span>±</span>0.02. In Low Damage years the strongest correlation was between total insect damage and two variables, percent adhering hull and dark stain (0.25, 0.23) while in High Damage years the correlation between total insect damage and percent dark stain was the highest (0.32) followed by percent adhering hull (0.19). The linkage of these nut factors to insect damage suggests that outbreak prevention depends on early identification of premature hull split/breakdown in addition to the traditional emphasis on treating the standing population of <em>A. transitella</em>. </p>

Daily surface all-wave net radiation over global land (2007-2017) from AVHRR data
<p>Surface net radiation, representing surface radiation energy balance, is closely related to several land processes, such as evapotranspiration, photosynthesis, and turbulent and conductive heat fluxes. Reanalysis products can provide a long-term surface net radiation; however, their coarse spatial resolution and large uncertainties hinder us from well applicating the data at a regional scale. Satellite products also include surface net radiation retrievals with high accuracy. The short time span of satellite products (i.e., GLASS product) makes these satellite products not suitable for long-term climate change study. Therefore, we used a deep learning method to upscale in situ measurements collected from global-distributed sites to generate a daily surface net radiation product with 0.05° spatial resolution from AVHRR data (2007-2017). </p> <p>After comprehensive validation, the RMSE of AVHRR net radiation product was ~26 Wm-2, which is generally better than some current reanalysis and satellite products.</p>
