Biomass and abiotic variable data in the study of the ecosystem engeneering effect of oysters on Suaeda linearis distribution in Georgia salt marshes (2008-2009)
Oysters are ecosystem engineers in marine ecosystems, but the functions of oyster shell deposits in intertidal salt marshes are not well understood. The annual plant Suaeda linearis is associated with oyster shell deposits in Georgia salt marshes. We hypothesized that oyster shell deposits promoted the distribution of Suaeda linearis by engineering soil conditions unfavorable to dominant salt marsh plants of the region (the shrub Borrichia frutescens, the rush Juncus roemerianus and the grass Spartina alterniflora). We tested this hypothesis using common garden pot experiments and field transplant experiments. Suaeda linearis thrived in Borrichia frutescens stands in the absence of neighbors, but was suppressed by Borrichia frutescens in the with-neighbor treatment, suggesting that Suaeda linearis was excluded from Borrichia frutescens stands by interspecific competition. Suaeda linearis plants all died in Juncus roemerianus and Spartina alterniflora stands, indicating that Suaeda linearis is excluded from these habitats by physical stress (likely water-logging). In contrast, Borrichia frutescens, Juncus roemerianus and Spartina alterniflora all performed poorly in Suaeda linearis stands regardless of neighbor treatments, probably due to physical stresses such as low soil water content and low organic matter content. Thus, oyster shell deposits play an important ecosystem engineering role in influencing salt marsh plant communities by providing a unique niche for Suaeda linearis, which otherwise would be rare or absent in salt marshes in the southeastern US. Since the success of Suaeda linearis is linked to the success of oysters, efforts to protect and restore oyster reefs may also benefit salt marsh plant communities.

(DOI:10.3354/ame01586) These data were collected on monthly day cruises from January 2008 to April 2009 on the RV Kelp Fish at five stations across the shelf starting at Mohawk Reef in the nearshore area of the Santa Barbara Channel, California, USA. Data were collected with a SBE19-Plus and rosette sampler. Measurements include standard CTD parameters in 1 m bins (e.g. salinity, temperature, density). At selected depths (1, 5, 10, 20 m), rosette bottle samples were collected for nutrients, pigments, particulate and dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen, and bacterial abundance, community structure and productivity. Phytoplankton abundances (to genus) were obtained from the 5 m sample only.
SkiYMET meteor radar data at OLAP (2008-2009)
<p>SkiYMET meteor radar data from OLAP observatory at São João do Cariri (7.23º S; 36.32º W; dip lat. -22.22), Brazil. The files summarize the parameters of the diurnal, semidiurnal, and terdiurnal tides, such as amplitude and phase, for the zonal and meridional wind components. The winds were estimated for the months of April, July and October of 2009, and December of 2008. These data were used as input to the MIRE model in the study of Fontes et al. (2022).</p>
Soil respiration associated with ectomycorrhizal mats in an old-growth stand along lower Lookout Creek, HJ Andrews Experimental Forest (2008-2009)
Comparisons of respiration rate and environmental variables for mat and non-mat soil were conducted between July 2008 to Nov 2009 in a 0.1ha plot adjacent lower Lookout Creek, approximately 700m downstream from Lookout Camp (44 deg 13”25’N, 122 deg 15”30’W, 484m above sea level). The predominant overstory species are Psuedotsuga menziesii, Tsuga heterophylla, and Thuja Plicata. Associated ectomycorrhizal communities were measured over the 1.5 year period and data collection for the study is complete. Soil respiration was measured using LiCOR instrumentation, and analyses were performed computationally by correlating soil respiration with known environmental metrics (moisture, temperature, etc.) measured in other studies (TW006, MV001, etc.).
Coyote Scat Surveys in Chihuahuan Desert Grassland and Shrubland Sites, Spring, Summer and Fall at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico (2008-2009)
This data set contains information regarding carnivore scat surveys that were performed at sites in grama grassland and both creosote and mesquite shrubland habitats at the Sevilleta NWR. A total of nine surveys were carried out along road-based transects, each of which is a mile long, during one season in 2008 (June-July) and three seasons in 2009: spring (April-May), summer (July-August), and fall (October-November). There were 10 transects in grassland areas and 10 in shrubland areas in 2008. All 20 transects, as well as two additional transects in grassland areas, were surveyed in 2009. For more information on the structure of the vegetation surrounding these road based transects, see the "Vegetation surveys in grassland and shrubland sites that are associated with coyote scat surveys at the Sevilleta NWR, 2008-2009" data set. Scat samples were identified in the field and collected for genetic and stable carbon isotope analysis. Field recorded variables include: scat freshness, maximum diameter, length, and GPS coordinates, as well as the field-based species identification for the sample. Information on the lab based species and individual identification results are also presented.This data was collected in order to obtain information on the size and feeding ecology of the coyote populations in grassland vs. shrubland habitats in three seasons (spring, summer and fall) and two years (2008 and 2009) at the Sevilleta NWR. A mark recapture analysis can be performed on the data from 2009 since two surveys were carried out for each scat transect in each of the three seasons and coyote scats were run through a genetic analysis to determine individual identity of the coyotes. A rough assessment of coyote habitat use can also be performed using the individual identity and coyote scat location information. Future isotope analysis will indicate whether the base of the food chain is C4 (grass) vs. C3 (shrubs) plants in grassland vs. shrubland habitats in each of the three

This study lays out the foundation for citation analyses, qualitative research on the publications' content and the self-description of East-African scholars against the background of an academic environment that is often described as “international”.</p>
Snow depth on Hardangervidda, South Norway 2008-2009
<p>This data set contains 10 m gridded snow depths derived from airborne light detection and ranging, or lidar, and measurements of surface elevation (DTM). The data were collected by the BREMS project of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. The data were collected along six independent flight lines. Each flight line is 80km long and 500m wide and follows a west-east orientation. Each flight line is separated by 10 km in the north/south direction in order to investigate any change from north to south.</p>
CADI Ionosonde Data - Palmas (2008-2009)
<p>Ionograms recorded by the CADI ionosonde installed in the observatory of Palmas (10.17° S; 48.33° W; dip lat. 8.3° S), Brazil. The dataset contains images of the ionograms recorded from December/2008 to November/2009. These data were used in the study of sporadic-E layers by Fontes et al. (2022).</p>
Koyukuk Flats: soil temperatures at different depths from 2008-2009
This dataset contains soil temperature data from a collapse-scar bog chronosequence at Koyukuk Flats National Wildlife Refuge in western interior Alaska. Temperature sensors were installed at the ground surface and deeper in the soil profile (20-45 cm below the moss surface). These data can be sorted by site, month, day, and depth of measurement.
Vegetation Surveys in Chihuahuan Desert Grassland and Shrubland Sites Associated with Coyote Scat Surveys at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico (2008-2009)
This data set contains information regarding vegetation structure at sites in grama grassland and both creosote and mesquite shrubland habitats at the Sevilleta NWR. This information was collected at randomly selected sites throughout the refuge. Each site is within 100 meters of one of the 22 road-based transects(20 in 2008) that were used to carry out coyote scat surveys during three seasons (spring, summer and fall) in 2009 (see "Coyote scat surveys in grassland and shrubland sites at the Sevilleta NWR, spring, summer and fall 2009" data set). Data was collected within at total of 22 circular vegetation plots (40 in 2008), each of which is 30m in diameter. Each plot was surveyed a total of three times, specifically in: April (spring), July (summer), and October (fall) 2009. Variables were selected based on their relevance to patterns of coyote habitat use, as well as their utility in calibrating Landsat images of the study site and the likelihood that they would vary seasonally. Measured variables include: average percent live woody vegetation cover, average percent live grass cover, average percent live forb cover, and average woody plant height. Information on woody plant species with individuals greater than 0.5 m in height is also presented.

Snow dataset for the Rheraya catchment (Morocco) (2008-2009)
<p>Here we present a meteorological dataset of the Rheraya catchment. It includes hourly meteorological observations from six automatic weather stations (AWS). These stations range from 1170 m to 3230 m and provide standard meteorological variables. They are stored in .dat file, i.e : StationName_met_data.dat. Inside each file the following elements are presents in every line :</p> <p><em>Year Month Day Hour Station_ID X Y Z Temperature Relative_Humidity Wind_Speed Wind_Direction Precipitation.</em></p> <p>We also provide snow height observations (Snow_depthOuka.txt). Each line correspond to a daily measured snow height recorded at Oukaimeden AWS (3200 m.a.s.l) from 1st November 2009 to 10 June 2009 by using an acoustic gauge. Additionally there is a shapefile containing GPS points collected during a 40 km long road trip. (trackkin.shp)</p> <p>Finally, we provide a time series of snow cover area maps derived from Formosat-2 images (8 m) and covering most of the catchment. MODIS Mosaic of Antarctica 2008-2009 (MOA2009) Image Map, Version 2
This data set includes two image maps - a snow grain size map and a surface morphology map - provided at two different resolutions of 125 m and 750 m. The maps were produced from composited image swath data acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) over Antarctica for the 2008-2009 austral summer season.
Kongsfjorden 2008-2009 mooring diagram KROP mooring
<p>As part of the KROP - Kongsfjorden Rijpfjorden Observatory Programme, UiT The Arctic University of Norway and The Scottish Association for Marine Science maintain a marine obervatory in the high-Arctic location Kongsfjorden, Svalbard, since 2002. The observatory consists of an array of CTDs, temperature loggers, ADCPs and a sediment trap, in addition to various other instruments or installations that change from year to year. This document contains the mooring diagram for the deployment year 2008-2009. CTD and ADCP data is published at the Arctic Data Centre (<a href="https://adc.met.no/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://adc.met.no/</a>). Some previous data is available from NIRD (<a href="https://archive.sigma2.no/">https://archive.sigma2.no/</a>).
