Arctic grayling neutral genomic microsatellite loci from the Kuparuk, the Sagavanirktok (primarily Oksrukuyik Creek) and the Itkillik (primarily the I-Minus outlet stream) watersheds, 2010-2014
Since 2009, The FISHSCAPE Project (National Science Foundation grants: 1719267, 1417754, and 0902153), based at Toolik Field Station, has monitored physical, chemical, and biological parameters within three watersheds: The Kuparuk (including Toolik Lake and Toolik outlet stream), The Sagavanirktok (primarily Oksrukuyik Creek, but also including sections of the Atigun River and Tea and Galbraith Lakes), and Itkillik (primarily the I-Minus outlet stream a tributary that that feeds into the Itkilik River). Goals of the FISHSCAPE project are to understand and predict the adaptability and persistence of a key Arctic species, the Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus), to changing climate and hydrology. Research questions include: (1) Does landscape structure determine movement within and among watersheds; (2) do populations adapt to stream characteristics at local and regional scales; and (3) will the relative adaptability of populations determine their persistence under future climate change. We used genetics to investigate population structure and landscape genetics for Arctic grayling. Adult and young-of-the-year fish were captured at sampling locations and coordinates and/or specific station locations were noted. Fin clip samples (adults) or whole fish (young-of-the-year) were collected and preserved in 95% ethanol until Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) was extracted. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products from neutral genomic microsatellite loci were scored and used to assess population genetic structure and other population parameters. Adult capture and movement data, including length, weight and Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tag information, can be found in a separate data package.
Year-round metabolism data from Lakes Simcoe (Ontario, 2010-2011), Diefenbaker, Blackstrap, and Broderick (Saskatchewan, 2013-2014), Canada.
This year-round limnology dataset is from four dimictic Canadian water bodies: three mesotrophic reservoirs in southern Saskatchewan (SK; Blackstrap, Broderick, Diefenbaker) and one oligo-mesotrophic large lake in southern Ontario (Lake Simcoe). Physical, chemical, and biological parameters were measured during the open-water and ice-covered seasons in 2010–2011 (Lake Simcoe) and the SK reservoirs in 2013–2014. Two stations were sampled on Blackstrap reservoir, one on Broderick reservoir, three on Diefenbaker reservoir, and seventeen on Lake Simcoe. Sampling was conducted from a boat during the open-water season and during winter, we accessed the same stations by snowmobile and sampled through holes in the ice. Epilimnetic or surface water was collected for parameters listed below, and δ18O-O2 (oxygen) stable isotope samples were collected from one to 4 depths per station, depending on water column depth and lake thermal structure that day. Parameters reported included photosynthetically active radiation, vertical attenuation coefficient, mean daily mixed layer irradiance, total phosphorus, total dissolved phosphorus, dissolved reactive phosphorus, total dissolved nitrogen, particulate nitrogen, ammonium, nitrate, chlorophyll a, particulate organic carbon, and phytoplankton biovolumes. Photosynthesis irradiance (P-E) parameters were measured including the light saturation parameter, maximum relative electron transport rate through PSII, and the light limited slope of the P-E curve. We also measured areal net productivity, areal gross productivity, and areal respiration via three different methods including fluorometry via a Water-PAM fluorometer, O2 concentrations and δ18O-O2 values, and light-dark bottle experiments measuring changes in O2 concentrations.
Sonde Data (2010-2014) from the Salmon Trout River in the Huron Mountains, Marquette Co., Michigan.
This dataset includes readings from a multi-parameter water quality sonde to continuously monitor chemical and biological conditions (water temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity) on the Salmon Trout River in Marquette, MI. This sensor was deployed May-Nov 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. This dataset includes cleaned raw data obtained with the sonde and may include time periods when readings were affected by sand accumulation/burial of the sensors.
Long-term monitoring of streamwater chemistry in Sycamore Creek, Arizona, USA (2010-2014)
The primary objective of this project is to understand how long-term climate variability and change influence the structure and function of desert streams via effects on hydrologic disturbance regimes. Climate and hydrology are intimately linked in arid landscapes; for this reason, desert streams are particularly well suited for both observing and understanding the consequences of climate variability and directional change. Researchers try to (1) determine how climate variability and change over multiple years influence stream biogeomorphic structure (i.e., prevalence and persistence of wetland and gravel-bed ecosystem states) via their influence on factors that control vegetation biomass, and (2) compare interannual variability in within-year successional patterns in ecosystem processes and community structure of primary producers and consumers of two contrasting reach types (wetland and gravel-bed stream reaches). This specific dataset was collected to monitor long-term changes in dissolved nutrient concentrations (N, P, C) by sampling surface water within gravel and wetland dominated reaches during baseflow.

Statistical Data from Muenster (2010-2014) as RDF
<p>This dataset is a <strong>curated statistical dataset </strong>from the Muenster City Council in RDF (Resource Description Framework) format. The City Council of Muenster has provided statistical datasets about Muenster covering the period 2010-2014 in PDF (Portable Document Format). Since PDF is not machine readable, students from the University of Muenster have tried to convert this statistical data into RDF, making therefore the data consumable by machines. Processed data from Svalbard shelf moorings 2010-2014
<p>Data from five moorings deployed in 2010-2014 on the south-western Svalbard shelf in Matlab-format. Data subset (from DJFM winter periods) was used and described in Goszczko et al. 2018 (published in JGR Oceans, see table S2 in Supporting Information). Some processing was modified compared to the original analysis (see read-me for details). Raw data are available from the Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences (IOPAN), Sopot, Poland.</p> <p>These deployments took place during IO PAN Arctic Experiments AREX carried out since 1987 and were supported by the Norway Grants from the Polish-Norwegian Research Fund project AWAKE (PNRF-22-A I-1/07), from the Polish-Norwegian Research Programme: AWAKE-2 (POL-NOR/198675/17/2013) and from Narodowe Centrum Nauki, Preludium MIXAR grant (2012/05/N/ST10/03643).</p>

Weekly biomass and abundance of sweepnet-captured aboveground arthropods at four sites near Toolik Field Station, Alaska, summers 2010-2014
The abundance and dry biomass of canopy-dwelling arthropods (insects and small spiders) was tracked over five summers (2010-2014) at four sites near Toolik Field Station, Alaska. At each site, a shrub-dominant and tussock-tundra habitat was chosen for sampling, for a total of 8 sampling locations. At each sampling location, a 100-meter transect was established. Arthropods were sampled along the transect weekly by passing a sweepnet through and over the vegetation. After killing the arthropods with pest strips and freezing, they were sorted from the associated leaf litter and counted. Dry biomass of the arthorpods was estimated in one of two was: using family-level identification, digital microscope measurement, and published allometric length-mass equations; or, arthropds were weighed directly on a microbalance following 48 hours in a drying oven at 50°C.
