Litter and soil accumulation estimates derived from lateral microplot photos in the Cross-Scale Interactions Study (CSIS) at Jornada Basin LTER, 2013-2017
This dataset contains litter and soil vertical accumulation estimates derived from lateral photos of microplots in a long-term experiment (2013-2017) of cross-scale interactions (CSIs) at the Jornada Basin LTER site in southern New Mexico, U.S.A. Experimental treatments were initiated in 2013 at 15 experimental blocks, each with 4 treatment plots: plant-scale herbicide of mesquite shrubs, patch-scale connectivity modifiers (ConMods), herbicide + ConMods, control without manipulations. Repeat, lateral (side-looking) photographs of ten "microplots" in each ConMods and herbicide+ConMods plot were taken for estimation of litter, soil, and vegetation cover in the experimental treatment and control plots over time. Photographs were analyzed with SigmaScan software to determine vertical accumulation of litter and soil withing the microplots. This study is complete and ended in 2017. These vertical accumulation estimates are derived from photos in EDI dataset knb-lter-jrn.210413006.

This dataset contains archived lateral photos collected from microplots in a long-term experiment (2013-2017) of cross-scale interactions (CSIs) at the Jornada Basin LTER site in southern New Mexico, U.S.A. Experimental treatments were initiated in 2013 at 15 experimental blocks, each with 4 treatment plots: plant-scale herbicide of mesquite shrubs, patch-scale connectivity modifiers (ConMods), herbicide + ConMods, and control without manipulations. Repeat, lateral (side-looking) photographs of ten "microplots" in each plot were taken for estimation of the vertical accumulation of litter, soil, and vegetation in the experimental treatment and control plots over time. The photographs are archived by year in Zip files. This study is complete and new photos will not be added. Litter/soil accumulation estimates derived from these photos are in EDI dataset knb-lter-jrn.210413007.
Continuous depth-integrated fluorometric phytoplankton measurements in Lake Bonney, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica (2013-2017)
Phytoplankton are key primary producers in the photic zones of permanently ice-covered lakes in Antarctica’s McMurdo Dry Valleys (MDV), playing a crucial role in regional carbon cycling. However, their seasonal dynamics remain poorly understood, particularly during winter, when the region is inaccessible to researchers. To address this gap, the Autonomous Lake Profiler and Samplers (ALPS) project, part of the McMurdo Dry Valleys Long Term Ecological Research (MCM LTER) program, deployed sensors and samplers to collect year-round data on phytoplankton dynamics. This data package provides continuous, depth-integrated fluorometric measurements of phytoplankton communities in Lake Bonney from 2013 to 2017. A submersible spectrofluorometer (bbe Moldaenke FluoroProbe) was used to quantify the vertical distribution of key algal classes – brown/mixed algae, green algae, and cryptophytes – within the deep photic zone of the lake’s eastern (21–24 m) and western (16–24 m) lobes. Lake Bonney serves as a year-round refugium for life in extreme environments, but rapid lake level rise over the past three decades has introduced new uncertainties regarding phytoplankton community dynamics. These data contribute to ongoing efforts to understand how environmental change influences microbial ecology in polar aquatic ecosystems.
USFWS Larval White Sturgeon Monitoring, San Joaquin River, 2013-2017
Overview The Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA) funds habitat improvement work and associated monitoring in the Central Valley of California to increase salmonid populations in furtherance of meeting CVPIA fish doubling goals. This data package contains three datasets for larval White Sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) monitoring in the San Joaquin River (SJR) conducted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Lodi Fish and Wildlife Office. SJR_Larval_WST_Set Data This dataset contains data on an experimental sampling program using boat-mounted drift nets (D-frame nets), a large drift net attached to a stationary pontoon (pontoon net), and otter trawls to catch larval White Sturgeon in the San Joaquin River. Sets were made at targeted locations from March-July in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017. A total of ten White Sturgeon were captured in 2016 and 11 in 2017, all with D-frame driftnets. SJR_Larval_WST_Catch Data This dataset contains data for individual fish caught in the San Joaquin River. Species and fork length were recorded for most individuals. SJR_Fish_Taxonomy Data This dataset contains data for fish codes used in the Catch datafile. For each species that was captured, the Species codes are listed with the corresponding Interagency Ecological Program code, common name, taxonomy (Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species), and whether or not the species is native to the region.

Data from 18 fungicide trials on potato late blight in UK and Ireland 2013-2017
<p>The data set comprises records of disease incidence, crop growth stage and yield from untreated and treated plots.</p> <p>The data is provided as both a tab-separated text file and a binary R data file. The R files provides code to read and plot the data. The plot produced is also provided as a PNG file.</p> <p>The field trials were conducted by Corteva Agriscience, Germany.</p>

Numbers of Articles, Books and Dissertation theses indexed in BASE and percentages of items published Open Access, under Creative Commons Licenses and under Open Licenses (2013-2017)
<p>A look at the data provided by the Open Access search engine BASE (http://base-search.net) shows that the Open Science compliance among dissertation theses stagnates. BASE knows three categories of accessibility: Open Access, Unknown, Non-Open Access. In the following tables and graphs, figures reported as "Open Access" have been categorised by BASE as Open Access. The tables and graphics show data from BASE (as of 06.03.2018) as follows:</p> <p>a) Indexed theses, books and journal articles</p> <p>b) Indexed theses, books and journal articles published by Open Access</p> <p>c) indexed theses, books and journal articles under Creative Commons licenses.</p> <p>d) indexed theses, books and journal articles, which are published under open licenses in the sense of the Open License, i. e. reflect terms of use of the Open Source.</p> <p> </p> <p>Although doctoral theses already had a high share of open access by 2013 (43%), by 2017 it had risen by only 5% (2017:48%). At the same time, the proportion of books published in open access rose by 14% (from 20% to 34%) and articles by 17% from 44% (2013) to 61% (2017). The same effect can be seen in the proportion of CC-licensed items: Their share rose by 4% (from 9% to 13%) for doctoral theses, by 9% for books (from 4% to 13%) and 8% for articles (from 10% to 18%) between 2013 and 2017. However, the share of openly licensed items is most pronounced: it did not increase for doctoral theses, but remained at 2% between 2013 and 2017; in the same period it increased by 5% (from 1% to 6%) for books, and by 5% (from 5% to 10%) for articles.</p>

<p>This data set includes information about the diversity, catch composition, and economic value of small-scale fisheries in the United States. In includes 1,019 small-scale fishing “units” that target 350 commercially reported taxa. Additional information about the data and the methods used to compile the data set are published in <em>A review of small-scale marine fisheries in the United States: Definitions, scale, drivers of change, and policy gaps</em>, published in Marine Policy (2022). </p>
