Supplement for Drone-based magnetic and multispectral surveys to develop a 3D model for mineral exploration at Qullissat, Disko Island, Greenland

Supplement to Jackisch et al., 2021: Drone-based magnetic and multispectral surveys to develop a 3D model for mineral exploration at Qullissat, Disko Island, Greenland.

https://se.copernicus.org/articles/13/793/2022/se-13-793-2022.html

Data set contains 3D model in dxf file, additional images, selected handheld spectra.

Publication summary:

We integrate UAS-based magnetic and remote sensing mineral exploration data with legacy exploration data of a Ni-Cu-PGE prospect on Disko Island, West Greenland. The basalt unit has a complex magnetization, and we use a 3D magnetic vector inversion on the UAS magnetics to estimate magnetic properties and spatial dimensions of the mineralized unit. Our 3D modelling reveals a horizontal sheet and a strong remanent magnetization component. We highlight the advantage of UAS in rugged terrain.

RAKSILA 3D. Laser scanning survey of the street fronts and green areas in Raksila, Oulu (FINLAND)

The video shows the preliminary results of the laser scanner survey of Raksila district in Oulu, Finland. Raksila is an important historical trace in the development of the urban planning of the city of Oulu. The district of Raksila is mainly a well-preserved residential Neighborhood characterized by a strong typicality.The general plan consists of a regular structure and a system of street fronts on the road are ordered and in an homogeneous profile. Despite this, Raksila still has no detailed and updated guidelines capable of managing all different types of interventions allowed (renovation, restoration, repair actions, possible modifications). For this reason, a laser scanner survey and detailed documentation have been created, through which all the elements and characteristics of the place have been defined and collected in sort of atlas and inventory reports. This new documentation is going to constitute the base for the definition of new guidelines, a practical support and analysis for future interventions that can be carried out in total respect of this heritage. This topic is inserted as case study for developing the Research Project n. 746215 entitled "Preserving Wooden Heritage". The project is financed by the European Commission with an Individual Marie S. Curie Fellowship assigned to PostDoctoral Researcher Sara Porzilli, who is working at the University of Oulu - Finland.

Lamminaho Wooden Estate: 3D laser scanner survey and post production results.

The dataset collects detailed information about the architecture and the environment of the historic place of Lamminaho, in Vaala region, Finland. The topic is included in the list of the case studies chosen by post doctoral fellow Sara Porzilli, who is working under Marie S. Curie Fellowship at the University of Oulu, Finland (School of Architecture, Department of "History of Architecture and Restoration Studies"). Supervisor: Prof. Arch. Anna-Maija Ylimaula. The study was promoted also by the "National Board of Antiquities (NBA) - Museovirasto "based in Helsinki (Responsible: Arch. Helena Hirviniemi) operating under the Directorate of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and "Senate Properties" (Responsible: Dr. Juha Keranen), partner and manager working under the Finnish government for the protection and protection of the Finnish heritage present on the territory of Italy and abroad. The research was dedicated to defining the methods for carrying out survey activities on historical wooden architecture, identifying the fundamental aspects of laser scanners methodologies and photogrammetric activities. The work has produced a detailed info-graphic atlas concerning all the buildings located in Lamminaho. The work had a theoretical approach, devoted on research and archival documentation. The results of the research are going to support all the practical activities of restoration and repair necessary in the process of musealization of the area.

Compilation of data collected in surveys on the WissKI-based 3D Repository with DFG 3D-Viewer project partners and architecture students from the Warsaw University of Technology and the Technical University of Łódź

The dataset contain the compiliation of responses from users of WissKI-based 3D Repository (https://3d-repository.hs-mainz.de/)., which is the open platform for deposit of 3D models of cultural heritage. The beta version of the WissKI 3D Repository, initiated in June 2022, has been subjected to evaluation by two primary target groups since its launch. The initial group, composed of students in the cultural heritage domain, was tasked with showcasing the importance of documenting and publishing 3D models of digital reconstructions. The survey with sutdents was conducted for three different classes:

1) In summer 2022 with bachelor architectrue students at Warsaw University of Technology during seminar of choice regarding digital reconstruction of wooden synagogues;

2) In summer 2023 with bachelor architectrue students at Warsaw University of Technology, and master students from Technology University of Łódź during seminar of choice regarding digital reconstruction of wooden synagogues;

3) In autumn 2023 during international workshop about digital 3D heritage of CoVHer project with studnets of architecture from Warsaw Univeristy of Technology, Alma Mater Studiorum – Universita di Bologna, Facoltà di Architettura di Porto and Hochschule Mainz - University of Applied Sciences, as well as archaeology studnets from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

The second group, comprising digital 3D cultural heritage professionals, predominantly focused on archiving digital assets. Participants were project partners of DFG 3D Viewer project, which were professionals from the Institute of Archaeology at University Cologne, the Institute of Art History at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, the Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning Department of BTU Cottbus Senftenberg, and the Detushce Museum. They were asked for evaluaton of system after three differetn stages of work: at the begging wihtout any introduction to the system, after proivision of intorudctionary materilas and finally at the end of work.

All participants were requested to report their experiences across four categories: metadata form, 3D viewer, provided guidelines, and overall experience. A 5-point rating scale was employed to assess specific issues, with 1 being the most negative and 5 being the most positive. The form length question was an exception, where a median value of 3 was considered ideal, and extreme values indicated either excessive length or brevity.
