Capacity factor time series for solar and wind power on a 50 km^2 grid in Europe
<p>This spatio-temporal dataset contains capacity factors timeseries for locations on a grid with 50km edge length in Europe. The data is resolved in one hour timesteps and comprises the years 2000--2016. It has been generated using <a href="https://www.renewables.ninja">Renewables.ninja</a> and is based on MERRA-2 reanalysis data. For each of the ~2700 onshore location, it contains one time series for onshore wind turbines and five time series for PV installations with different orientations and tilts. PV time series exist for (1) installations on open fields, (2) installations on all possible rooftops, (3) south-facing and flat rooftops, (4) east- and west-facing rooftops, (5) north-facing rooftops. For each of the ~2800 offshore location there is one timeseries for offshore wind turbines.</p> <p>Two GeoTIFF files contain spatial information of onshore and offshore locations. For each of the three technologies -- onshore wind, offshore wind, and PV -- there is one NetCDF file determining the temporal dimension and containing the data. Any temperature data collected in this area is reported here. This includes Level 3 weather stations as well as smaller scale and temporal studies. This data can be sorted and viewed by site, year, hour, height of measurement, mean, min, and max value. Updates of each site are different since some are still on going while other had only a 2-3 year life cycle. This information can be found in the site descriptions and in the metadata.

Growth of wild cucumber (Echinocystis lobata) in three variants of support (5, 20, 50 cm) and shoot geometry
<p><span>The experiments included three variants of support: 5 cm, 20 cm, and 50 cm. </span><span>The data was collected in the years 2020-2023. After developing their first pair of mature leaves, when the plants were about 20-35 cm in length, the plants were photographed. The shutter was released every 15 minutes. The resulting images were combined into a 10 fps video. The following were used for the analysis: 13 recordings of the 5 cm variant and 12 recordings of the 20 and 50 cm variants.</span></p> <p><span>Next, an analysis was performed based on the resulting video using Tracker</span><span> for kinetic analysis of video objects. The recordings were used to measure the plant growth parameters. The tape measure and point mass tools were used to determine the length of the shoots and to change the position of the apex relative to the areas of the X- and Y-axis photographed over time. To compensate for this, a trend line was drawn (polynomial of the 2nd degree, due to the very good fit, R<sup>2</sup> = 0,975–0,995) and new plant length parameters were calculated. </span></p> <p><span>To enhance the research, cross-sections of the shoots of ten plants were scanned. Samples were taken every 5 cm from the base of the plant. Using ImageJ</span><span> the following parameters were measured: shoot cross-sectional area, tissue area, perimeter, and circularity. </span></p>

<p>Contained within this dataset are the (1) list of USGS basins used in the Livneh et al. 2024 (in-review) analysis of the intermittency-flooding relationship, (2) shapefile of the basins, and (3) the script used to generate the list of basins from the GAGES II dataset. Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of northern Brøggerhalvøya (Svalbard, Norway) with Ground Sampling Distance (GSD) of 50 cm
<p>HRSC is a multisensor pushbroom instrument with 9 CCD line sensors mounted in parallel that has been in orbit around Mars since January 2004 on ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft (Gwinner et al., 2016). It simultaneously obtains high-resolution stereo, multicolor, and multiphase images. Digital photogrammetric techniques are used to reconstruct the topography on the basis of five stereo channels, which provide five different views of the ground.</p> <p>An airborne version of the HRSC was used for the acquisition of stereo and color images in Svalbard. Since 1997, different airborne versions of HRSC have been developed. The principles of HRSC-AX data processing are described by Gwinner et al. (2006). The orientation data of the camera are reconstructed from a global positioning system inertial navigation system (GPS INS). HRSC-AX has been applied in diverse technical and scientific applications (e.g., Gwinner et al., 1999, 2000; Hauber et al., 2001; Otto et al., 2007) and has also been successfully used to investigate rock glacier activity (Roer and Nyenhuis, 2007). The flight campaign in July–August 2008 covered a total of seven regions in Svalbard: (1) Longyearbyen and the surroundings of Adventfjorden, (2) large parts of Adventdalen, (3) large parts of the Brøggerhalvøya (halvøya = peninsula) in western Spitsbergen (this dataset), (4) the Bockfjorden area in northern Spitsbergen, (5) the northeastern shore of the Palanderbukta and the margin of the adjacent ice cap in Nordaustlandet, (6) an area on Prins Karls Forland, and (7) the area of the abandoned Russian mining settlement of Pyramiden together with the nearby Ebbedalen. </p> <p>This dataset is a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) derived from HRSC-AX stereo images. The elevations recorded in the DEM are ellipsoid heights; i.e., they are not computed with respect to a geoid but to a mathematically defined reference surface, which is a<br>rotational ellipsoid with the equatorial A and B axes both having a radius of 6378.14 km and the polar<br>C axis having a radius of 6356.75 km. MS-based orthophotos (50 cm): the dynamics of the prehistoric communities located in the Mostiștea Valley and Danube Plain (between Oltenița and Călărași)
<p>This dataset is part of a larger project on the dynamics of the prehistoric communities located in the Mostiștea Valley and Danube Plain (between Oltenița and Călărași), supervised by the ArchaeoSciences Division of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB) and Kiel University (Germany), in partnership with HOGENT, University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Belgium), Museum of Bucharest, Museum of the Lower Danube Călărași, Museum of Gumelnița Civilization Oltenița, and "Vasile Pârvan" Institute of Archaeology (Romania), under the "Sultana School of Archaeology" initiative.</p> <p>Spatial data play a crucial role in archaeological research, and orthophotos, digital elevation models, and 3D models are frequently used for the mapping, documentation, and monitoring of archaeological sites. Thanks to the availability of compact and low-cost uncrewed airborne vehicles, the use of UAV-based photogrammetry is well matured in this field over the last two decades. More recently, compact airborne systems are also available that allow the recording of thermal data, multispectral data, and airborne laser scanning. For this project, various platforms and sensors are applied at the Chalcolithic archaeological sites in the Mostiștea Basin and Danube Valley (Southern Romania). By analyzing the performance of the systems and the resulting data, insight is given into the selection of the appropriate system for the right application. This analysis requires thorough knowledge of data acquisition and data processing as well. As both laser scanning and photogrammetry typically result in very large amounts of data, a special focus is also required on the storage and publication of the data. Hence, the objective of this project is to provide a full overview of various aspects of 3D data acquisition for UAV-based mapping. Based on the conclusions drawn in our related publications, it is stated that photogrammetry and laser scanning can result in data with similar geometrical properties when acquisition parameters are appropriately set. On the one hand, however, the used ALS-based system outperforms the photogrammetric platforms in terms of operational time and the area covered. On the other hand, conventional photogrammetry provides flexibility that might be required for very low-altitude flights, or emergency mapping. Furthermore, as the used ALS sensor only provides a geometrical representation of the topography, photogrammetric sensors are still required to obtain true color- or false color composites of the surface. Lastly, the variety of data, like pre- and post-rendered raster data, 3D models, and point clouds, requires the implementation of multiple methods for the online publication of data. Various client-side and server-side solutions are presented to make the data available for other researchers.</p>
Temperature and wind speed time series on a 50 km^2 grid in Europe
<p>This spatio-temporal dataset contains weather timeseries for locations on a grid with 50km edge length in Europe. The data is resolved in one hour timesteps and comprises the years 2000-2018. It has been generated directly from the MERRA-2 reanalysis dataset.</p> <p>This data serves as an input to the Sector-Coupled Euro-Calliope model and has been generated to match the spatial resolution of the renewable energy generation capacity factors found at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.3891480.</p> <p><em>temperature.nc:</em> air temperature at 2m above ground in degrees C.</p> <p><em>tsoil5.nc</em>: soil temperature at layer 5 in degrees C.</p> <p><em>wind10m.nc</em>: wind speed at 10m above ground in m/s.</p> <p><em>grid.nc:</em> provides the latitude and longitude of each grid (a.k.a. "site") centroid.
