Fatigue properties of wind turbine rotor blade hybrid epoxy adhesives

This dataset includes the tensile data at two different strain rates and tensile-tensile fatigue data of epoxy adhesives used in wind turbine rotor blades. SPABOND™ 820HTA (non-toughened) and SPABOND™ 840HTA (toughened) epoxy adhesives are combined at different weight proportions to develop the hybrid adhesives. The hybrid and ASTM D638-22 tensile specimen geometry (Type I and Type II) effects on fatigue performance are determined through instrumented experiments.

The self-cleaning properties of biomimetic surfaces to repel Escherichia coli and Listeria monocytogenes attachment, adhesion, and retention

Surface hydrophobicity and roughness were determined for unmodified wax surfaces (control), biomimetic wax surfaces, and Gladioli leaves. The self-cleaning properties of the biomimetic and control surfaces were compared by measuring their propensity to repel Escherichia coli and Listeria monocytogenes attachment, adhesion, and retention in mono- and co-culture conditions.

Effect of crosslinking modification with 4,4´-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) on physicochemical properties of peanut meal-based adhesives

The PM-based adhesives were prepared by crosslinking modification with diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) as a crosslinking agent. The viscosity and water resistance of the modified PM-based adhesive were improved significantly, making it beneficial to the application of label industry. This paper investigated the properties of PM-based adhesives, including viscosity, solid content and water resistance time. Viscosity and solid content of the modified adhesives improved observably as MDI was introduced, and its water resistance time was up to 77 h when the modifier was added at 15% (based on PM), which met the industry requirements of Beer labels in China. In addition, FTIR and XRD were used to characterize the physical and chemical interactions in the cured adhesives. The thermal stability of the cured adhesives was determined by TGA, and SEM was used to observe the microstructure of the cured adhesives. The characterization and analysis results of the cured adhesives showed that incorporating MDI into the adhesives formed dense crosslinking structure because of chemical reactions between MDI and active groups on the PM protein molecules and introduced hydrophobic group into the adhesives, preventing water intrusion effectively, thus improving the water resistance of the cured adhesives.

Data from: Effects of thermal treatment on the properties of defatted soybean flour and its adhesion to plywood
With an attempt to economically and efficiently improve the water resistance of defatted soybean flour (DSF)-based wood adhesives, DSF was subjected to thermal treatment at various temperatures (65, 80, 95, 110, and 125 °C) for 30 minutes. The effects of thermal treatment temperature onto the chemical structure, crystalline degree, water-insoluble content, and acetaldehyde value of the thermally-treated DSF (T-DSF) was investigated. The thermal stabilities and bonding properties of soybean adhesives prepared from T-DSF and crosslinker epichlorohydrin-modified polyamide (EMPA) were also investigated. Test results indicated that both the water insoluble content and acetaldehyde value of T-DSF increased after thermal treatment, reaching the highest values of 27.28% and 26.81 mmol/g, respectively. All plywood bonded with the T-DSF-based adhesive withstood a 28 h boiling–dry–boiling accelerated aging treatment, while plywood bonded with the DSF-based adhesive delaminated after 4 h of water boing, demonstrating the significantly improved water resistance of the T-DSF-based adhesives. Related analyses also confirmed that this improvement was due to: (i) the formation of insoluble crosslinked structures of T-DSF resulting from protein–protein self-crosslinking reactions and the protein–carbohydrate Maillard reaction, and (ii) increased crosslinking efficiency between T-DSF and crosslinker EMPA owing to more T-DSF reactive groups being released after thermal treatment.
