<p>This dataset contains the proportional migratory insect intensity and traffic data used in Haest&nbsp;<em>et al.</em> (2024) to quantify patterns in diel flight periodicity of migratory insects between 50-500m above ground level during March-October 2021 using a network of seventeen vertical-looking radars across Europe. Plant Atlas 2020 — British altitude-by-latitude diagrams

<p>Plant Atlas 2020 is the most comprehensive survey of plants (flowering plants, ferns and charophytes) ever undertaken in Britain and Ireland. It is based on over 30 million records, collected mainly by volunteer recorders of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) between 2000 and 2019, as well as previous nationwide surveys undertaken in the 1950s and 1990s. This resource provides the data behind the British altitude-by-latitude diagrams presented in the Plant Atlas book (Stroh et al., 2023) and on the website (www.plantatlas2020.org).</p>

Sheep videos taken from drone at low altitude

<p>The data below are part of the European H2020 project ICAERUS regarding the livestock monitoring use case. More information here : https://icaerus.eu/</p> <p>Counting sheep is particularly challenging for farmers with thousand of animals in a flock. Our objective is to develop methodology based on computer vision to counting sheep when they are passing in a corridor to coming back in a park or a pen. This first dataset will support our work.&nbsp;</p> <p>The dataset encompasses 16 .MP4 videos from drone (DJI mavic 3 Enterprise or Thermal) of around 50 sheep crossing a gate.&nbsp;<br>The videos were taken from 5m to 10m of height and to an horizontal distance of the gate from 0m to 10m.&nbsp;</p> <p>More videos will be published in the next months.</p> <p>For more information, please contact: adrien.lebreton@idele.fr&nbsp;</p> <p>The authors are opened to any collaborations on this topic.</p>

<p>This repository contains&nbsp;archived data for the manuscript &quot;Seasonal and geographical variability of the Martian ionosphere from Mars Express observations&quot;, published in Journal of Geophysical Research-Planets. Details about the methods to generate the data can be found in the paper.</p> <p>5 data files plus 2 readme text files&nbsp;are included.</p> <p>The file MEx_ionpeak.dat (described in the readme file README_ionpeak.txt)&nbsp;contains the peak electron densities and peak altitudes resulting from&nbsp;34539 observations. Each record includes 14 columns. Fine-scale changes in speed and altitude suggest protean movements in homing pigeon flights

<p>The power curve provides a basis for predicting adjustments that animals make in flight speed, for example in relation to wind, distance, habitat foraging quality and objective. However, relatively few studies have examined how animals respond to the landscape below them, which could affect speed and power allocation through modifications in climb rate and perceived predation risk. We equipped homing pigeons (<i>Columba livia</i>) with high-frequency loggers to examine how flight speed, and hence effort, varies in relation to topography and land cover. Pigeons showed mixed evidence for an energy-saving strategy, as they minimized climb rates by starting their ascent ahead of hills, but selected rapid speeds in their ascents. Birds did not modify their speed substantially in relation to land cover, but used higher speeds during descending flight, highlighting the importance of considering the rate of change in altitude before estimating power use from speed. Finally, we document an unexpected variability in speed and altitude over fine scales; a source of substantial energetic inefficiency. We suggest this may be a form of protean behaviour adopted to reduce predation risk when flocking is not an option, and that such a strategy could be widespread.</p>
