Techno-economic sustainability analysis methodology for conversion routes of renewable feedstock resources to bio-based products – case studies

The dataset provides a set of sustainability principles, criteria and indicators for the evaluation of the conversion routes stage of a bio-based product. The selected case studies on the employment of alternative feedstocks and production of the bio-based products are implemented in order to evaluate the proposed methodology. Mass and energy balances for all case studies, estimated techno-economic metrics, cost of externalities and risk assessment results are provided

An exploratory study of consumers' familiarity, attitude, and purchase intentions for lignin-based sunscreens and bio-based skincare products [dataset]

Dataset for An exploratory study of consumers’ familiarity, attitude, and purchase intentions for lignin-based sunscreens and bio-based skincare products.

Results of SWOT/PESTEL analyses for selected bio-based products

The dataset provide SWOT/PESTEL factors considered in the aspect of improvements of the current sustainability schemes and exemplary approach to weighing indicators attributed to the factors.

Deliverable [D4.1] Techno-economic sustainability analysis methodology on resources for bio-based products, conversion routes and end-of-life alternative valorisation options

Techno-economic sustainability analysis (TESA) is a methodology framework to evaluate the performance of a process under technical and economic perspective. A process can be divided into three main sections, the resources required for bio-based products, the conversion routes for the production and finally, the end-of-life alternative valorisation options. Consequently, TESA is carried out separately in the three sections and evaluates the likelihood of their different technology scales and applications and their economic feasibility.

Definition of techno- economic sustainability criteria and LCC indicators for bio-based products

The dataset provides a set of sustainability principles to be fulfilled by the process or the product and develops a set of criteria and indicators to show how well these sustainability principles are fulfilled. Case-studies related on alternative feedstocks, bio-based products production routes, and EoL options are implemented in order to evaluate the proposed methodology.

Data related to the utilisation of source-separated biowaste for the production of bio-based chemicals

The main objective of this dataset was to demonstrate the technological solution of biosolvents production (mainly bioethanol) via the utilisation of urban biowaste within the city context of Athens, Greece. More specifically, the aim of the dataset is the demonstration of a pre-existing system, namely PILOT 5 for the production of bioethanol.

The results achieved were very promising for the viability of the process, either with dried or wet feedstock. It is important to consider the energy consumption, as it constitutes more than 50% in the overall ethanol production cost. In comparison, the total energy consumption for the production of ethanol with dried feedstock is 26% higher than with wet feedstock. The most energy-intensive stage is drying, followed by distillation.
