BreXLiMe: A Semantically Enriched Dataset With News Articles, Micro-Posts, and TV Shows Related to the Brexit
<p>We provide a <strong>large data set of media content metadata</strong> from various media sources (including online news sites, social media, and live-TV) in three languages (<strong>English, German, and Spanish</strong>). Overall, the data set contains rich metadata for about <strong>240 thousand news articles, 12 million micro-posts, and 900 TV shows</strong>. All media content information has been semantically enriched with annotations of both entities and categories from DBpedia.</p> <p>The data can be used as a valuable data basis for applications and studies of various disciplines (e.g., social studies, political science, and humanities) on the case of Brexit, particularly on the <strong>media landscape before the Brexit referendum held on June 23, 2016</strong>.</p> <p>We provide the data set in the RDF serialization format Turtle (.ttl) as well as in XML.</p> <p>If you use our data set, please <strong>cite</strong> it as follows:</p> <pre><code>Lei Zhang, Maribel Acosta, Michael Färber, Steffen Thoma and Achim Rettinger. Recull d'opinions sobre els efectes del Brexit a Twitter.
<p>En aquest dataset trobarem un recull d’opinions per part d’usuaris de la xarxa social Twitter sobre el Brexit. D’aquesta forma trobar quina relació observa la població entre el Brexit i els esdeveniments del present. En diferents camps hi trobarem tant les opinions com la id i la data del tuit. Els tuits són comentaris trobats com a resultat de la cerca de la paraula “brexit” en el cercador i filtrant els 1000 primers resultats. Les 1000 entrades que tindrem seran les més recents a data d'extracció però com la data de la publicació del tweet sortirà al dataset, sempre es podrà contextualitzar.</p>
Tweet IDs for the #brexit tweet dataset collected for the Helsinki Digital Humanities Hackathon 2019
<p>This dataset contains lists of tweet ids for the tweets used as material by the "Brexit in Transna­tional So­cial Me­dia" group in the <a href="http://heldig.fi/dhh19/">Helsinki Digital Humanities Hackathon 2019</a>.</p> <p>Due to restrictions in Twitter's terms of service, the full tweet dataset cannot be made public. However, Twitter allows the publication of tweet ids, from which the dataset can be reconstituted, <em>with the exception of deleted tweets</em>.</p> <p>The dataset was gathered as follows: Between 2019-01-22T09:19Z and 2019-04-15T14:42Z, a <a href="https://github.com/DocNow/twarc">Twarc</a> version 1.6.1 script was called hourly to retrieve and archive tweets from Twitter matching the #brexit hashtag using the Twitter search API. All 5,547,585 tweet IDs returned by this run are listed in the file <code>original_ids.txt.gz</code>.</p> <p>However, upon further inspection, problems were identified in the archiving. For an unidentified reason, gathering did not occur between 2019-02-13T06:17Z and 2019-02-26T09:24Z. In addition, the Twarc script had been run without the <code>--extended</code> argument, so the tweet data contained only truncated contents for many tweets.</p> <p>Due to this, a decision was taken to rehydrate a new dataset of tweets falling between 2019-02-26T09:24Z and 2019-04-15T14:42Z. Of the original 4,197,059 tweets gathered for this time period (listed in <code>continuous_ids.txt</code>), 3,941,653 could be rehydrated (i.e., they had not been deleted in the interim). The ids of tweets in this dataset are listed in the file <code>continuous_rehydrated_ids.txt</code>.</p> <p>Finally, out of these rehydrated tweets, a subset was derived that filtered out all tweets that were pure retweets. This subset consisted of 1,104,514 tweets, whose ids are listed in the file <code>continuous_rehydrated_no_retweets_ids.txt</code>.</p>

Data from: Making Brexit work for the environment and livelihoods: delivering a stakeholder informed vision for agriculture and fisheries
1. The UK's decision to leave the EU has far-reaching implications for agriculture and fisheries. To ensure the future sustainability of UK agricultural and fisheries systems, we argue that it is essential to grasp the opportunity that Brexit is providing to develop integrated policies that improve the management and protection of the natural environments, upon which these industries rely. 2. This article advances a stakeholder informed vision of the future design of UK agriculture and fisheries policies. We assess how currently emerging UK policy will need to be adapted in order to implement this vision. Our starting point is that Brexit provides the opportunity to redesign current unsustainable practices and can in principle deliver a sustainable future for agriculture and fisheries. 3. Underpinning policies with an ecosystem approach, with explicit inclusion of public goods provision, and social welfare equity were found to be central to the success of this endeavour. Recognition of the needs of, and innovative practices in, the devolved UK nations is also required as the new policy and regulatory landscape is established. 4. Achieving our proposed vision will necessitate drawing on best practice and creating more coherent and integrated food, environment and rural and coastal economy policies. Sustainable prosperity should and can form the core of future post-Brexit environmental policy thinking and our findings demonstrate the "bottom-up" and co-production approaches that will be key to the development of more environmentally sustainable agricultural and fisheries policies.

Així podem observar quina relació troba la població entre el Brexit i els esdeveniments del present. És un dataset senzill però que dóna molta informació de cada un dels tweets extrets. En total trobarem 1000 entrades (les més recents a data d'extracció) però la data d'extracció sortirà al dataset de manera que sempre es podrà contextualitzar.</strong></p>
Occurrences of Maritime Phraseology in the Context of Brexit 2015-2022
<p>This dataset is part of a BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grant entitled "A Sea of Opportunity" - The Maritime Dimension of Brexit Narratives (https://www.coventry.ac.uk/research/research-directories/current-projects/2023/a-sea-of-opportunity).</p> <p>This dataset maps occurrences of maritime phraseology using governmental, survey, and media archival sources between 2015 and 2022. It is useful for understanding how maritime phraseology helped shape narratives during the Brexit campaign, referendum result, and political aftermath. This is not an exhaustive list of maritime related terms; instead, it offers a snapshot of how pertinent the maritime dimension was in the context of Brexit.</p> <p>We draw on the following sources to compile the dataset:</p> <ol> <li>House of Commons Hansard debates that focus specifically on Brexit from January 2015 to December 2022.</li> <li>The digital archives of The Guardian (remain) and The Daily Mail (leave) between 2016 and 2022.</li> <li>‘UK in a Changing Europe’ website. Extracting key maritime phraseology from 59 interviews with campaigners, politicians, civil servants and officials that were involved in the Brexit process. Interviews were carried out between 2020 and 2022.</li> <li>‘What UK Thinks’ repository run by NatCen Social Research, which provides survey and polling data.</li> </ol>

EUinLAC Lecture 9 Video: The UK and Latin America. Policy continuity in a post-Brexit era or waning relevance?
<p>The project “The reconfiguration of the European Union presence in Latin America and the Caribbean” (EUinLAC) was conceived and launched between 2019 and 2020. The European Union Jean Monnet programme generously financed it in 2020 and the project activities were carried out between 2020 and 2023. The project was designed to promote both research and teaching on European Union (EU)-Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) relations. The first mission was accomplished with the publication of the volume named after the project “The Redefinition of EU presence in Latin America and the Caribbean”, which brings together 18 original contributions on the topic and was published by Peter Lang in 2023. The second objective was met by the release of this innovative open educational resource, or teaching tool, an undertaking that Friedrich-Alexander University Press enthusiastically embraced and published in full open access to reach as wide an audience as possible.</p>
