SBC LTER: Ocean: Currents and Biogeochemistry: Moored CTD and ADCP data from Carpinteria Reef Mooring (CAR, ongoing since 2001

ADCP (Currents), CTD (Hydrography) and Optics data (Fluorescence, Beam Attenuation and Volume Scattering Function) were collected at Carpinteria Reef in the Santa Barbara Channel (site ID: CAR). Data have been interpolated to a 20 minute interval. ADCP data are binned at a 0.5 meter interval, measured as height from the bottom to a maximum of 16 bins. All bins may not be filled, and in some cases, data from bins technically above the surface are included. VSF data are available at angles, 100, 125 and 150 degrees. CTD parameters include Pressure, Temperature, Conductivity, Salinity, Density and Fluorescence. The CTD array is located approximately 4.5 meters from the surface, and there are additional temperature thermistors near the CTD array, at the bottom, and mid way between these two.

Floating Car Data Collection for Processing and Benchmarking

<p>The dataset is outcome of a paper &quot;Floating Car Data Map-matching Utilizing the Dijkstra Algorithm&quot; accepted for 3rd International Conference on Data Management, Analytics &amp; Innovation held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2019.</p> <p>The floating car data (FCD representing movement of cars with their position in time) is produced by the traffic simulator software (further referred to as Simulator) published in [1] and can be used as an input for data processing and benchmarking. The dataset contains FCD of various quality levels based on the routing graph of the Czech Republic derived from Open Street Map <a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org">openstreetmap.org</a>.<br> <br> Should the dataset be exploited in scientific or other way, any acknowledgement or references to our paper [1] and dataset are welcomed and highly appreciated.</p> <p><strong>Archive contents</strong></p> <p>The archive contains following folders.</p> <p><strong>city_oneway</strong> and <strong>city_roadtrip </strong>- FCD from the city of Brno, Czech Republic where FCD is based on Origin-Destination in case of oneway and Origin-Destination-Origin in case of a road trip</p> <p><strong>intercity_oneway </strong>and <strong>intercity_roadtrip </strong>- FCD from cities of Brno, Ostrava, Olomouc and Zlin, all Czech Republic where FCD is based on Origin-Destination in case of oneway and Origin-Destination-Origin in case of a road trip</p> <p><strong>Content explanation</strong></p> <p>All four of mentioned folders contain raw FCD as they come from our Simulator, post-processed FCD enriching Simulator FCD, and obfuscated raw FCD (of both low and high obfuscation level). In the both obfuscated data sets, each measured point was moved in a random direction a number of meters given by drawing a number from a Gaussian distribution. We utilized two Gaussian distributions, one for the roads outside the city (N(0,10) for the lower and N(0,20) for the higher obfuscation level) and one for the roads inside the city (N(0,15) and N(0,30) respectively). Then some predefined number of randomly chosen points were removed (3% in our case). This approach should roughly represent real conditions encountered by FCD data as described by El Abbous and Samanta [2].</p> <p>In case of post-processed road trip data, there is one extra dataset with &quot;cache&quot; suffix representing the very same dataset limited to a 5-minute session memoization. This folder also contains a picture of processed FCD represented on a map.</p> <p><strong>Data format</strong><br> Standard UTF-8 encoded CSV files, separated by a semicolon with the following columns:</p> <p><strong>RAW</strong></p> <p><em>Header</em></p> <p>session_id;timestamp;lat;lon;speed;bearing;segment_id</p> <p><em>Data</em></p> <p>session_id: (Type: unsigned INT) - session (car) identifier<br> timestamp: (Type: datetime) - timestamp in UTC<br> lat: (Type: unsigned long) - latitude as used in Google maps<br> lon: (Type: unsigned long) - longitude as used in Google maps<br> speed: (Type: unsigned INT) - actual speed in kmh<br> bearing: (Type: unsigned INT) - actual bearing in angles 0-360<br> segment_id: (Type: unsigned long) - unique edge identifier</p> <p><strong>POST-PROCESSED</strong></p> <p><em>Header</em></p> <p><br> gid;car_id;point_time;lat;lon;segment_id;speed_kmh;speed_avg_kmh;distance_delta_m;distance_total_m;speedup_ratio;duration;segment_changed;duration_segment;moved;duration_move;good;duration_good;bearing;interpolated</p> <p><em>Data</em></p> <p>gid: (Type: unsigned long) - global identifier of a record<br> car_id: (Type: unsigned INT) - session (car) identifier<br> point_time: (Type: datetime) - timestamp with timezone<br> lat: (Type: unsigned long) - latitude as used in Google maps<br> lon: (Type: unsigned long) - longitude as used in Google maps<br> segment_id: (Type: unsigned long) - unique edge identifier<br> speed: (Type: unsigned INT) - actual speed in kmh<br> speed_avg_kmh: (Type: unsigned long) - actual average speed of a car in kmh<br> distance_delta_m: (Type: unsigned long) - actual distance delta in metres<br> distance_total_m: (Type: unsigned long) - actual total distance of a car in metres<br> speedup_ratio: (Type: unsigned long) - actual speed-up ratio of a car<br> duration: (Type: time) - actual duration of a car<br> segment_changed: (Type: boolean) - signals if actual segment of a car differs from the previous one<br> duration_segment: (Type: time) - actual duration on a segment of a car<br> moved: (Type: boolean) - signals if actual position of a car differs from the previous one<br> duration_move:(Type: time) - actual duration of a car since moving<br> good: signals if actual record values satisfies all data constraints (all true as derived from Simulator)<br> duration_good: actual duration of a car since when all constraints conditions satisfied<br> bearing: (Type: unsigned INT) - actual bearing in angles 0-360<br> interpolated: (Type: boolean) - signals if actual segment identifier is calculated (all false as derived from Simulator)</p> <p><strong>References</strong><br> <br> [1] <em>V. Data for - The environmental footprint of transport by car using renewable energy

<p>Replacing fossil fuels in the transport sector by renewable energy will help combat climate change. However, lowering greenhouse gas emissions by switching to alternative fuels or electricity can come at the expense of land and water resources. To understand the scale of this possible tradeoff we compare and contrast carbon, land and water footprints per driven km in midsize cars utilizing conventional gasoline, biofuels, bioelectricity, solar electricity and solar-based hydrogen. Results show that solar-powered electric cars have the smallest environmental footprints per km, followed by solar-based hydrogen cars, and that biofuel-driven cars have the largest footprints.</p>

I-CAR door crashworthiness validation

<p>During an impact, a key component to protect the occupants of a vehicle is the door. In line with the novel design and manufacturing process of vehicle doors which has been carried out in AVANGARD project, several crash tests on the developed vehicle were carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of these actions. The results of tests were satisfactory, but especially for the doors in the case of the side impact test. Considering that it is the most critical case for the door, it is considered a great success. In both tests, due to the low weigh of the structure, the vehicle is ejected, resulting in only a small deformation of the structure. In addition, owing to the doors are very rigid, there is almost no intrusion.</p>

Experimental fatigue test on I-CAR structure

<p>In order to validate the welding procedures developed during AVANGARD project, a fatigue test of the vehicle structure was performed. As can be seen in the video, the vehicle underwent the entire test without visible damage. On the other hand, once the test was completed, non-destructive&nbsp;inspection with penetrate liquids verified that there were no cracks. The quality of the joints is therefore corroborated.</p>

Open synthetic data on travel and charging demand of battery electric cars: An agent-based simulation on three charging behavior archetypes

<p><strong>Background</strong></p> <p>Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are crucial for a sustainable transportation system. As more people adopt BEVs, it becomes increasingly important to accurately assess the demand for charging infrastructure. However, much of the current research on charging infrastructure relies on outdated assumptions, such as the assumption that all BEV owners have access to home chargers and the &quot;Liquid-fuel&quot; mental model. To address this issue, we simulate the travel and charging demand on three charging behavior archetypes. We use a large synthetic population of Sweden, including detailed individual characteristics, such as dwelling types (detached house vs. apartment) and activity plans (for an average weekday). This data repository aims to provide the BEV simulation&#39;s input, assumptions, and output so that other studies can use them to study sizing and location design of charging infrastructure, grid impact, etc.</p> <p>A journal paper published in Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment details the method to create the data (particularly Section 2.2 BEV simulation).</p> <p><a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.trd.2023.103645">https://doi.org/10.1016/j.trd.2023.103645</a></p> <p><strong>Methodology</strong></p> <p>This data product is centered on the 1.7 million inhabitants of the V&auml;stra G&ouml;taland (VG) region, which includes the second largest city in Sweden, Gothenburg. We specifically simulated 284,000 car agents who live in VG, representing 35% of all car users and 18% of the total population in the region. They spend their simulation day (representing an average weekday) in a variety of locations throughout Sweden.</p> <p>This open data repository contains the core model inputs and outputs. The numbers in parentheses correspond to the data sets. We use individual agents&#39; activity plans (1) and travel trajectories from MATSim simulation for the BEV simulation (2), in which we consider overnight charger access (3), car fleet composition referencing the current private car fleet in Sweden (4), and Swedish road network with slope information (5) with realistic BEV charging &amp; discharging dynamics. For the BEV simulation, we tested ten scenarios of charging behavior archetypes and fast charging powers (6). The output includes the time history of travel trajectories and charging of the simulated BEVs across the different scenarios (7).</p> <p><strong>Data description</strong></p> <p>The current data product covers seven data files.</p> <p><strong>(1) Agents&#39; experienced activity plans</strong></p> <p>File name: 1_activity_plans.csv</p> <table> <tbody> <tr> <td> <p><strong>Column</strong></p> </td> <td> <p><strong>Description</strong></p> </td> <td> <p><strong>Data type</strong></p> </td> <td> <p><strong>Unit</strong></p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>person</p> </td> <td> <p>Agent ID</p> </td> <td> <p>Integer</p> </td> <td> <p>-</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>act_id</p> </td> <td> <p>Activity index of each agent</p> </td> <td> <p>Integer</p> </td> <td> <p>-</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>deso</p> </td> <td> <p>Zone code of Demographic statistical areas (DeSO)1</p> </td> <td> <p>String</p> </td> <td> <p>-</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>POINT_X</p> </td> <td> <p>Coordinate X of activity location (SWEREF99TM)</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>meter</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>POINT_Y</p> </td> <td> <p>Coordinate Y of activity location (SWEREF99TM)</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>meter</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>act_purpose</p> </td> <td> <p>Activity purpose (work, home, other)</p> </td> <td> <p>String</p> </td> <td> <p>-</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>mode</p> </td> <td> <p>Transport mode to reach the activity location (car)</p> </td> <td> <p>String</p> </td> <td> <p>-</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>dep_time</p> </td> <td> <p>Departure time in decimal hour (0-23.99)</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>hour</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>trav_time</p> </td> <td> <p>Travel time to reach the activity location</p> </td> <td> <p>String</p> </td> <td> <p>hour:minute:second</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>trav_time_min</p> </td> <td> <p>Travel time in decimal minute</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>minute</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>speed</p> </td> <td> <p>Travel speed to reach the activity location</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>km/h</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>distance</p> </td> <td> <p>Travel distance between the origin and the destination</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>km</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>act_start</p> </td> <td> <p>Start time of activity in minute (0-1439)</p> </td> <td> <p>Integer</p> </td> <td> <p>minute</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>act_time</p> </td> <td> <p>Activity duration in decimal minute</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>minute</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>act_end</p> </td> <td> <p>End time of activity in decimal hour (0-23.99)</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>hour</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <p>score</p> </td> <td> <p>Utility score of the simulation day given by MATSim</p> </td> <td> <p>Float</p> </td> <td> <p>-</p> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <p>1 <a href="https://www.scb.se/vara-tjanster/oppna-data/oppna-geodata/deso--demografiska-statistikomraden/">https://www.scb.se/vara-tjanster/oppna-data/oppna-geodata/deso--demografiska-statistikomraden/</a></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>(2) Travel trajectories</strong></p> <p>File name: 2_input_zip</p> <p>Produced by MATSim simulation, the zip folder contains ten files (events_batch_X.csv.gz, X=1, 2, &hellip;, 10) of input events for the BEV simulation.
