Blum (1988) produced the first analysis based largely on osteology and included representatives of all nominal genera and subgenera established prior to 1988; b. FerryGraham et al. (2001a) presented a new analysis based on a modification of Blum's matrix; c. Smith et al. (2003) revised the original matrix of Blum (1988) in the light of FerryGraham et al. (2001a) and provided 41 osteological and softtissue characters – numbered nodes are those used in Table 3. Open circles indicate taxa sampled in the present study.
