CATCH-EyoU: Exploiting European data and testing the integrated theory of youth active EU citizenship: EACEA subset analysis
<p>This dataset was created within the research project Constructing AcTive CitizensHip with European Youth: Policies, Practices, Challenges and Solutions (CATCH-EyoU) funded by European Union, Horizon 2020 Programme, Grant Agreement No 649538. Work Package 4 of this project (Exploiting European data and testing the integrated theory of youth active EU citizenship) is focused on the re-analysis of existing European data. This dataset contains a subset of data originally collected within the project “<em>EACEA 2010/03: Youth Participation in Democratic Life</em>”, coordinated by the London School of Economic and Political Science. Specifically, an online questionnaire survey in seven European countries was conducted among young people age 15-30 in 2011. This dataset contains a subset of 22 variables that were employed for the reanalysis within the CATCH-EyoU project.</p>
CATCH-EyoU: Processes in Youth's Construction of Active EU Citizenship: Wave 1 Questionnaires: Czech Republic
<p>This dataset was generated within the research project Constructing AcTive CitizensHip with European Youth: Policies, Practices, Challenges and Solutions (CATCH-EyoU) funded by European Union, Horizon 2020 Programme - Grant Agreement No 649538. Work Package 7 of this project aims to test the processes in youth’s construction of active EU citizenship on various social and psychological levels. The main file contains quantitative data from the first wave of the longitudinal survey on adolescents and young adults (age 15-26). Data collection was carried out in the Czech Republic (regions Prague, South Moravian, Moravian-Silesian, Pardubicky, Vysocina) from October to December 2016. The supplementary files contain national translations of the questionnaire for the younger (15-19) and the older (20-26) subgroups.</p>
Values, beliefs, norms, and circular citizenship behaviours in a student sample
<p>Data set of 229 students from an online survey, run between March 7th 2024 and April 2nd 2024.</p> <p><strong>Gender</strong>: 43 men (18.8%), 181 women (79.0%), 3 non-binary persons (1.2%), 2 participants (0.9%) preferred not to indicate their gender.</p> <p><strong>Age</strong>: The age ranged from 17 to 29 years (M = 19.7, SD = 1.83).</p> <p><strong>Variables</strong>: Biospheric, altruistic, hedonic, and egoistic values, problem awareness, ascription of causal responsibility, self-efficacy, outcome efficacy, personal norms, circular citizenship behaviours</p> <p><strong>Data analysis </strong>by creating scales for the variables and running regressions/GLM.</p>
CATCH-EyoU: Processes in Youth's Construction of Active EU Citizenship: Wave 1 Questionnaires: Greece
<p>File <strong>CatchEyoU_WP7_W1_Greece.por </strong>contains the Greek questionnaire data set for Wave 1 of Work Pachage 7 of Catch-EyoU project (Constructing AcTive CitizensHip with European Youth: Policies, Practices, Challenges and Solutions; funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Programme; GA number: 649538; 2015-2018; http://www.catcheyou.eu/). This dataset contains the data underlying the publications presented in the References section (see below). </p> <p>File <strong>CatchEyoU_WP7_W1_Greece.por </strong>corresponds to the responses of participants to the questionnaire study for the purposes of Catch-EyoU project, WP7, Wave 1, collected in December 2016. These were entered and coded as either numeric or alphanumeric variables. Detailed information on variable names and labels is included in the portable file itself and it is also provided in the accompanying README file.</p>

CATCH-EyoU: Exploiting European data and testing the integrated theory of youth active EU citizenship: PIDOP subset reanalysis
<p>This is a subset of the full PIDOP dataset. The derived subset contains cross-sectional survey results from the PIDOP questionnaire survey that were collected in 9 European countries (incl. Turkey) during a period of 16-26 year old in 2011. The data set includes 9060 individual cases. The questionnaire used in the survey is published in Barrett, M. & Zani, B. (Eds.) CATCH-EyoU: Processes in Youth's Construction of Active EU Citizenship: Cross-national Wave 1 Questionnaires: Italy, Sweden, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Czech Republic, UK, and Estonia: EXTRACT: Identification with Europe and Home Country
<p>It is a well-established fact that forming a mature and coherent political identity is one developmental task in adolescence and young adulthood. However, given different degrees of commitment on the regional, national, and European level, the question remains whether young people’s identification varies among those spheres? Drawing on data from the European Catch-EyoU-project, it was the goal of this study to examine whether young people can be classified according to their identification toward their home country and Europe and how these types are associated with age, gender, country as well as political interest, tolerance, and political participation. The study is based on adolescents and young adults from the Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Estonia, Italy, Portugal, and Sweden (<em>N </em>= 9,339; <em>M</em>age=19.62; 59.1% female). Cluster analysis revealed five types of young people’s identification with country and Europe which showed significant associations between group membership and tolerance, political interest, and participation. The implications of distinguishing types of identification and their associations with political outcomes are discussed.</p>
