Long-term immunity against yellow fever in children vaccinated during infancy: a longitudinal cohort study
<p>The data represent the concentrations of specific neutralizing antibodies following infant immunization against yellow fever. We used a microneutralization assay to measure protective antibodies against yellow fever virus in 587 Malian and 436 Ghanaian children vaccinated around age 9 months, and followed for 4.5 years (Mali), or 2.5 and 6 years (Ghana). We standardized antibody concentrations with reference to the yellow fever WHO International Standard.</p> <p>The serum samples used in this study, and the sample metadata included in the present dataset originate from trials of the meningococcal group A conjugate vaccine, MenAfriVac, namely the PsATT-004 (phase II) and Pers-004 (phase IV) studies in Ghana, and the PsATT-007 (phase III) and Pers-007 (phase IV) studies in Mali (clinical trial registry numbers ISRCTN82484612, ISRCTN10763234, PACTR201110000328305, and ISRCTN37623829). Epidemiological and clinical characteristics predictive of ICU mortality of traumatic brain injury patients treated at a trauma reference hospital – A cohort study - Dataset
<p><strong>Dataset of a cohort whose summary is described below.</strong></p> <p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p> <p><strong>Background</strong>: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) has substantial physical, psychological, social and economic impacts, with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Considering its high incidence, the aim of this study was to identify epidemiological and clinical characteristics that predict mortality in patients hospitalized for TBI in intensive care units (ICUs). <strong>Methods</strong>: A retrospective cohort study was carried out with patients over 18 years old with TBI admitted to an ICU of a Brazilian trauma referral hospital between January 2012 and August 2019. TBI was compared with other traumas in terms of clinical characteristics of ICU admission and outcome. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to estimate the odds ratio for mortality. <strong>Results</strong>: Of the 4816 patients included, 1114 had TBI, with a predominance of males (85.1%). Compared with patients with other traumas, patients with TBI had a lower mean age (45.3 ± 19.1 versus 57.1 ± 24.1 years, p < 0.001), higher median APACHE II (19 versus 15, p <0.001) and SOFA (6 versus 3, p < 0.001) scores, lower median Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score (10 versus 15, p < 0.001), higher median length of stay (7 days versus 4 days, p < 0.001) and higher mortality (27.6% versus 13.3%, p < 0.001). In the multivariate analysis, the predictors of mortality were older age (OR: 1.008 [1.002-1.015], p = 0.016), higher APACHE II score (OR: 1.180 [1.155-1.204], p < 0.001), lower GCS score for the first 24 hours (OR: 0.730 [0.700-0.760], p < 0.001), and greater number of brain injuries and presence of associated chest trauma (OR: 1.727 [1.192-2.501], p < 0.001). <strong>Conclusion</strong>: Patients admitted to the ICU for TBI were younger and had worse prognostic scores, longer hospital stays and higher mortality than those admitted to the ICU for other traumas. The independent predictors of mortality were advanced age, APACHE II score, first 24-hour GCS score, number of brain injuries and chest trauma.</p>

<p><strong>Title:</strong></p> <p>Minimal Data Set for the Reproduction of Findings in "Elayan et al., Cohort Profile: The ENTWINE iCohort Study, a Multinational Longitudinal Web-Based Study of Informal Care".</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Study Summary:</strong></p> <p>The data sets provided herein are derived from the ENTWINE iCohort Study, a multinational web-based cohort study employing an intensive longitudinal design. The study integrates a two-wave panel survey (baseline and 6-month follow-up) with optional weekly diary assessments. The cohort comprises caregivers and care recipients from nine countries: the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Israel, Germany, Greece, Poland, and Ireland. The study aimed to examine the influence of personal, psychological, social, economic, and geographic factors on caregiving experiences.</p> <p>Participants were eligible if they met the following criteria: 1) residency in a participating country; 2) capability to respond to surveys in English, Swedish, German, Dutch, Italian, Greek, Hebrew, or Polish; 3) access to the internet and ability to use it; 4) at least 18 years of age; 5) self-declared cognitive and physical capacity to complete the surveys; 6) either providing care to an adult (aged ≥ 18 years) with a chronic health condition, disability, or other care need, or receiving care from an adult due to similar conditions.</p> <p>The detailed methodology and results of the study can be found in the associated manuscript. Albero study: a longitudinal database of the social network and personal networks of a cohort of students at the end of high school
<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p> <p>The Albero study analyzes the personal transitions of a cohort of high school students at the end of their studies. The data consist of (a) the longitudinal social network of the students, before (n = 69) and after (n = 57) finishing their studies; and (b) the longitudinal study of the personal networks of each of the participants in the research. The two observations of the complete social network are presented in two matrices in Excel format. For each respondent, two square matrices of 45 alters of their personal networks are provided, also in Excel format. For each respondent, both psychological sense of community and frequency of commuting is provided in a SAV file (SPSS). The database allows the combined analysis of social networks and personal networks of the same set of individuals.</p> <p><strong>INTRODUCTION</strong></p> <p>Ecological transitions are key moments in the life of an individual that occur as a result of a change of role or context. This is the case, for example, of the completion of high school studies, when young people start their university studies or try to enter the labor market. These transitions are turning points that carry a risk or an opportunity (Seidman & French, 2004). That is why they have received special attention in research and psychological practice, both from a developmental point of view and in the situational analysis of stress or in the implementation of preventive strategies.</p> <p>The data we present in this article describe the ecological transition of a group of young people from Alcala de Guadaira, a town located about 16 kilometers from Seville. Specifically, in the “Albero” study we monitored the transition of a cohort of secondary school students at the end of the last pre-university academic year. It is a turning point in which most of them began a metropolitan lifestyle, with more displacements to the capital and a slight decrease in identification with the place of residence (Maya-Jariego, Holgado & Lubbers, 2018).</p> <p>Normative transitions, such as the completion of studies, affect a group of individuals simultaneously, so they can be analyzed both individually and collectively. From an individual point of view, each student stops attending the institute, which is replaced by new interaction contexts. Consequently, the structure and composition of their personal networks are transformed. From a collective point of view, the network of friendships of the cohort of high school students enters into a gradual process of disintegration and fragmentation into subgroups (Maya-Jariego, Lubbers & Molina, 2019).</p> <p>These two levels, individual and collective, were evaluated in the “Albero” study. One of the peculiarities of this database is that we combine the analysis of a complete social network with a survey of personal networks in the same set of individuals, with a longitudinal design before and after finishing high school. This allows combining the study of the multiple contexts in which each individual participates, assessed through the analysis of a sample of personal networks (Maya-Jariego, 2018), with the in-depth analysis of a specific context (the relationships between a promotion of students in the institute), through the analysis of the complete network of interactions. This potentially allows us to examine the covariation of the social network with the individual differences in the structure of personal networks.</p> <p><strong>PARTICIPANTS</strong></p> <p>The social network and personal networks of the students of the last two years of high school of an institute of Alcala de Guadaira (Seville) were analyzed. The longitudinal follow-up covered approximately a year and a half. The first wave was composed of 31 men (44.9%) and 38 women (55.1%) who live in Alcala de Guadaira, and who mostly expect to live in Alcala (36.2%) or in Seville (37.7%) in the future. In the second wave, information was obtained from 27 men (47.4%) and 30 women (52.6%).</p> <p><strong>DATE STRUCTURE AND ARCHIVES FORMAT</strong></p> <p>The data is organized in two longitudinal observations, with information on the complete social network of the cohort of students of the last year, the personal networks of each individual and complementary information on the sense of community and frequency of metropolitan movements, among other variables.</p> <p><strong>Social network</strong></p> <p>The file “Red_Social_t1.xlsx” is a valued matrix of 69 actors that gathers the relations of knowledge and friendship between the cohort of students of the last year of high school in the first observation. The file “Red_Social_t2.xlsx” is a valued matrix of 57 actors obtained 17 months after the first observation.</p> <p>The data is organized in two longitudinal observations, with information on the complete social network of the cohort of students of the last year, the personal networks of each individual and complementary information on the sense of community and frequency of metropolitan movements, among other variables.</p> <p>In order to generate each complete social network, the list of 77 students enrolled in the last year of high school was passed to the respondents, asking that in each case they indicate the type of relationship, according to the following values: 1, “his/her name sounds familiar"; 2, "I know him/her"; 3, "we talk from time to time"; 4, "we have good relationship"; and 5, "we are friends." The two resulting complete networks are represented in Figure 2. In the second observation, it is a comparatively less dense network, reflecting the gradual disintegration process that the student group has initiated.</p> <p><strong>Personal networks</strong></p> <p>Also in this case the information is organized in two observations. The compressed file “Redes_Personales_t1.csv” includes 69 folders, corresponding to personal networks. Each folder includes a valued matrix of 45 alters in CSV format. Likewise, in each case a graphic representation of the network obtained with Visone (Brandes and Wagner, 2004) is included. Relationship values range from 0 (do not know each other) to 2 (know each other very well).</p> <p>Second, the compressed file “Redes_Personales_t2.csv” includes 57 folders, with the information equivalent to each respondent referred to the second observation, that is, 17 months after the first interview. The structure of the data is the same as in the first observation.</p> <p><strong>Sense of community and metropolitan displacements</strong></p> <p>The SPSS file “Albero.sav” collects the survey data, together with some information-summary of the network data related to each respondent. The 69 rows correspond to the 69 individuals interviewed, and the 118 columns to the variables related to each of them in T1 and T2, according to the following list:</p> <p> • Socio-economic data.</p> <p> • Data on habitual residence.</p> <p> • Information on intercity journeys.</p> <p> • Identity and sense of community.</p> <p> • Personal network indicators.</p> <p> • Social network indicators.</p> <p><strong>DATA ACCESS</strong></p> <p>Social networks and personal networks are available in CSV format. In this way, we can examine the mutual dependence of individual trajectories and the structure of the relationships of the cohort of students as a whole. The complete social network corresponds to the same context of interaction: the secondary school. However, personal networks collect information from the different contexts in which the individual participates. The structural properties of personal networks may partly explain individual differences in the position of each student in the entire social network. In turn, the properties of the entire social network partly determine the structure of opportunities in which individual trajectories are displayed.</p> <p>The longitudinal character and the combination of the personal networks of individuals with a common complete social network, make this database have unique characteristics. What is the clinical course of patients hospitalised for COVID-19 treatment Ireland: a retrospective cohort study in Dublin's North Inner City (the 'Mater 100')
<p><strong>Background: </strong>Since March 2020, Ireland has experienced an outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). While several cohorts from China have been described, there is little data describing the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with COVID-19 in Ireland. <strong>To improve our understanding of this emerging infection we carried out </strong>a retrospective review of patient data to<strong> examine the clinical characteristics </strong>of patients admitted for COVID-19 hospital treatment.</p> <p><strong>Methods<strong>:</strong></strong> Demographic, clinical and laboratory data on the first 100 adult patients admitted to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) for in-patient COVID-19 treatment after onset of the outbreak in March 2020 was extracted from clinical and administrative records.</p> <p><strong>R<strong>esults:</strong></strong> Fifty-eight per cent were male, 63% were Irish nationals, and median age was 45 years (interquartile range [IQR] =34-64 years). Patients had symptoms for a median of five days before diagnosis (IQR=2.5-7 days), most commonly cough (72%), fever (65%), dyspnoea (37%), fatigue (28%), myalgia (27%) and headache (24%). Of all cases, 54 had at least one pre-existing chronic illness (most commonly hypertension, diabetes mellitus or asthma). At initial assessment, the most common abnormal findings were: C-reactive protein >7.0mg/L (74%), ferritin >247μg/L (women) or >275μg/L (men) (62%), D-dimer >0.5μg/dL (62%), chest imaging (59%), NEWS Score (modified) of ≥3 (55%) and heart rate >90/min (51%). Twenty-seven required supplemental oxygen, of which 17 were admitted to the intensive care unit - 14 requiring ventilation. Forty received antiviral treatment (most commonly hydroxychloroquine or lopinavir/ritonavir). Four died, 17 were admitted to intensive care, and 74 were discharged home, with nine days the median hospital stay (IQR=6-11).</p> <p>C<strong>onclusion:</strong> Our findings reinforce the emerging consensus of COVID-19 as an acute life-threatening disease and highlights, the importance of laboratory (ferritin, C-reactive protein, D-dimer) and radiological parameters, in addition to clinical parameters. Further cohort studies involving larger samples followed longitudinally are a priority.</p>

Audio recordings of COVID-19 positive individuals from the prospective Predi-COVID cohort study with their ageusia and anosmia status
<p>We uploaded 1636 audio recordings originating from 259 distinct participants in the prospective Predi-COVID cohort study recruited between May 2020 and May 2021. The audios have been converted from their original format into WAV files. Dysglycemias in patients admitted to ICUs with severe acute respiratory syndrome due to COVID-19 versus other causes – A cohort study - Dataset
<p>Dataset of a cohort whose summary is described below.</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>Importance: Dysglycemias have been associated with worse prognosis in critically ill patients with or without diabetes, but data on their association with severe COVID-19 and outcomes are lacking. Objectives: To analyze the relationship of dysglycemias with COVID-19 in hospitalized patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and assess the influence of dysglycemias on mortality. Design, Setting and Participants: Cohort of consecutive patients with SARS and suspected COVID-19 hospitalized in intensive care units (ICUs) across eight hospitals in Curitiba-Brazil. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was the influence of COVID-19 on the variation of the following parameters of dysglycemia: highest glucose level at admission, mean and highest glucose levels during ICU stay, mean glucose variation, and percentage of days with hyperglycemia. The secondary outcome was the influence of COVID-19 and each of the five parameters of dysglycemia on hospital mortality within 30 days from ICU admission. Results: We compared 703 patients with COVID-19 and 138 without COVID-19 admitted to the ICUs due to SARS. Compared with patients without COVID-19, those with COVID-19 had significantly higher glucose peaks at admission (198.1mg/dL vs. 167.8mg/dL, respectively) and during ICU stay (285.9mg/Dl vs. 230.9md/dL), higher mean daily glucose values (167.9mg/dL vs. 149.8mg/dL), higher percentage of days with hyperglycemia during ICU stay (vs. 45.0 vs. 31.5), and greater mean daily glucose variations (85.3mg/dL vs. 63.5mg/dL). However, these associations were lost after adjustment for APACHE II scores, SOFA scores, CRP level, corticosteroid use and nosocomial infection. Dysglycemia and COVID-19 were each independent risk factors for mortality. Conclusions and Relevance: Patients with SARS due to COVID-19 had higher mortality and more frequent dysglycemia than patients with SARS due to other causes. This association seemed to be related to disease severity and inflammation and was independent of corticosteroid use, suggesting no specific relationship with the SARS-CoV-2 infection.</p>

For the CPCR cohort, no provision for data sharing was included in the original ethical approval and participant consent form. Analyses were restricted to a subset of "white-British" unrelated samples with a maximum sample size of 112,337 individuals. </p> <p>Case control phenotypes were defined based on categorical datafields as listed in the accompanying file. <br> Quantitative phenotypes were either rank-normalised before analysis, or beta/se values were standardised after analysis using the variance of the phenotype. The normalisation value is indicated in the accompanying file.<br> <br> All analyses included Age at assessment, sex, genotyping chip, and 10 principal components as covariates. </p> <p>We used plink1.9 linear/logistic regression as appropriate. Obesity is associated with increased self-reported pain intensity and pain-related disability, reductions in physical functioning and poorer psychological well-being. People living with obesity tend to respond less well to pain treatments or management compared to people living without obesity. Mechanisms linking obesity and pain are complex and may variously include contributions from and interactions between physiological, behavioural, psychological, socio-cultural, biomechanical, and genetic factors. Our aim is to study the multidimensional pain profiles of people living with obesity, over time, in an attempt to better understand the relationship between obesity and pain.<br> </p> <p><em>Methods and analysis: </em></p> <p>This longitudinal observational cohort study will recruit (n=216) people living with obesity and who are newly attending three weight management services in Ireland. Participants will complete questionnaires that assess their multidimensional biopsychosocial pain experience at baseline and at 3, 6, 12 and 18-months post-recruitment. Quantitative analyses will characterise the multidimensional pain experiences and trajectories of the cohort as a whole and in defined sub-groups.<br> </p> <p><em>Ethics and dissemination: </em></p> <p>The study protocol has been approved by the Ethics and Medical Research Committee of St Vincent’s Healthcare Group, Dublin, Ireland (Reference No.: RS21-059) and the University College Dublin Human Research Ethics Committee (Reference No.: LS-E-22-41-Hinwood-Smart). Findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, public and patient advocacy groups, and social media.</p>
Epidemiology and Disease Burden of Neurocritical Disorders: A Cohort Study - Data Sharing
<p>Dataset of a Neurocritical Brazil cohort study whose summary is described below.</p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p><strong>Objective:</strong> To describe a cohort of neurocritical patients and their differences based on primary neurological diagnoses and identify predictors of mortality and unfavorable outcome along with the disease burden of each neurological condition on intensive care unit (ICU) admission. <strong>Methods:</strong> Prospective cohort study including patients admitted to 36 ICUs in Brazil and followed up for 30 days. <strong>Results:</strong> Of 4245 patients admitted to the participating ICUs during the study period, 1194 (28.1%) were neurocritical patients and were included in the study. Neurocritical patients had a mean mortality rate 1.7 times higher than non-neurocritical patients admitted to the same ICUs (17.21% versus 10.1%, respectively). The most frequent primary neurological diagnoses on ICU admission were postoperative care of elective neurosurgery, traumatic brain injury, ischemic stroke, and encephalopathy. The estimated total disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) were 4482.94 in the overall cohort, and the diagnosis with the highest DALYs was traumatic brain injury (1634.42). DALYs were significantly impacted by the patients’ primary neurological diagnosis, sex, age group, and number of secondary neurological injuries. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> We accurately described the epidemiology of neurocritical patients and estimated their overall and relative disease burden. The findings of this study are important to direct policies regarding education, prevention, and treatment of severe neurocritical diseases.</p> <p> </p>
Lung ultrasonography features and risk stratification in 80 patients with COVID-19: a prospective observational cohort study
<p><strong>Background</strong></p> <p>Point-of-care lung ultrasound (LUS) is a promising and pragmatic risk stratification tool in COVID-19. This study describes and compares early LUS characteristics across of range of clinical outcomes.</p> <p><strong>Method</strong></p> <p>Prospective observational study of PCR-confirmed COVID-19 patients in the emergency department (ED) of Lausanne University Hospital. A trained physician recorded LUS images using a standardized protocol. Two experts retrospectively reviewed images blinded to patient outcome. We describe and compare early LUS findings (acquired within 24hours of presentation at the ED) between patient groups based on their outcome at 7-days after inclusion: 1) self-resolving outpatients, 2) hospitalised and 3) intubated/death. The LUS score was used to discriminate between groups.</p> <p><strong>Findings</strong></p> <p>Between March 6 and April 3 2020, we included 80 patients (18 outpatients, 41 hospitalized and 21 intubated/dead). 73 patients (91%) had abnormal LUS (72% outpatients, 95% hospitalised and 100% intubated/death; p=0.004). The proportion of involved zones was lower in outpatients compared with other groups (median 30% [IQR 0-40%], 44% [33-70%] and 70% [50-88%], p<0.001). Predominant abnormal patterns were bilateral and multifocal spread thickening of the pleura with pleural line irregularities (77%), confluent B lines (66%) and pathologic B lines (55%). Posterior inferior zones were more often affected. Median LUS score had a good level of discrimination between outpatients and others with area under the ROC of 0.80 (95% CI 0.66-0.95).</p> <p><strong>Interpretation</strong></p> <p>Systematic LUS is a reliable, cheap and easy-to-use triage tool for the early stratification of risk in COVID-19 patients presenting at emergency departments.</p> <p><strong>Funding</strong></p> <p>Leenaards Foundation</p>
Volatile organic compound analysis, a new tool in the quest for preterm birth prediction – an observational cohort study
<p>Vaginal swabs were taken in pregnancy in high risk asymptomatic women attending a preterm prevention clinic. Women in the study attended the clinical due to a history of preterm birth or midtrimester pregnancy loss, or due to a history of cervical surgery. Individualised management plans were made depending upon individual patient risk factors. During their attendance to the clinic vaginal swabs were taken for VOC analysis. Swabs were taken between 15 and 28 weeks gestation. Women consented to vaginal swabs at each of their visits to the clinic. The dataset contains GC-IMS VOC data from a G.A.S. GC-IMS and includes a Spreadsheet of demographics.</p>
