Pre- and Post- construction snorkel surveys at the project and reach stretches, Yuba River, CA, 2014 through 2024

Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS), cbec, inc. ecoengineering, and South Yuba River Citizen’s League, funded and directed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service’s Anadromous Fish Restoration Program (USFWS AFRP), teamed to plan, design, monitor, and perform regulatory compliance for the Hallwood Side Channel and Floodplain Restoration Project (Project) on the Yuba River, California. The Project is designed to restore and enhance ecosystem processes, with a primary focus on improving productive juvenile salmonid rearing habitat to increase natural production of fall and spring-run Chinook Salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha and steelhead O. mykiss in the Yuba River. The Project enhanced up to 157 acres of seasonally inundated riparian floodplain habitats, 1.7 miles of perennial side and alcove channels, and more than 6.1 miles of seasonal side channels. The design approach focused on removing unnatural constraints (such as a mid-river training wall and very coarse surface materials left from mining activities) in order to allow natural river and floodplain processes to function. Construction planning efforts included multi-year phasing to remove about 3.2 million cubic yards of material from the site while optimizing habitat establishment in early years and minimizing disturbance to existing high quality riparian and aquatic habitat. The Project included a robust monitoring program that measured the effect of restoration on a range of ecological parameters thought to influence salmonid habitat use and productivity and riparian ecosystem function using a Before-After-Control-Impact study framework. Specifically, we monitored salmonid and non-native predator density, juvenile salmonid growth and residence time, predation, invertebrate prey (drift) density and biomass, and changes in acreage of a range of habitat types, including terrestrial and aquatic vegetation. We also examined factors influencing natural riparian tree recruitment following restoration.

Long-term monitoring and research of the ecology of the Tres Rios constructed treatment wetland, Phoenix, Arizona, USA, ongoing since 2011

# Project Description In order to better understand the water, nutrient and treatment dynamics of aridland constructed treatment wetlands, we have developed datasets tracking primary productivity (aboveground and belowground), nutrient and water budget dynamics, soils, and aquatic metabolism at the Tres Rios wetlands, operated by the City of Phoenix Water Services Department, since July 2011. The 3-cell Tres Rios Wetlands were completed in 2010 and are associated with the 91st Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant, the largest in Phoenix. This project is focused on the largest of the three wetlands treatment cells which was the first to be planted and became operational in Summer 2010. The wetland cells are bounded by roads (the "shoreline"), and the system we study is 42 ha in size, approximately half of which is open water and half of which is fringing vegetated marsh. Water depth is relatively consistent across the marsh (approximately 25cm) and effluent inflow to the cell varies seasonally from 95,000 to over 270,000 m3 d-1. Measurements are taken along two gradients representing the two hydraulic pathways of the system: The whole-system, from inflow to outflow, within the vegetated marsh itself. # Abstract Constructed treatment wetlands (CTW) provide cost effective and ecosystem-service based solutions to the problem of urban wastewater treatment. They are a particularly attractive option for water reuse in arid cities, where water resources are scarce, and understanding CTW function in these environments is critical to facilitating sustainable water use practices. Although CTW are well established and studied in mesic climates, how they function in and respond to hot, arid climates is comparatively not well understood. Specifically, large atmospheric water losses via evaporation and plant transpiration comprise a much larger component of the whole-system water budget than in mesic climates. Construction Costs of Carnivorous and Non-Carnivorous Plants at Harvard Forest 2006-2008

Leaf traits, including photosynthetic rates, leaf mass area, and leaf nutrient content covary in a coordinated way for a wide range of plant taxa. This covariation results from trade-offs between the costs of constructing plant tissues and the benefits accrued from photosynthesis. Carnivorous plants have been found to be outliers in the "universal spectrum of leaf traits" because they have very low photosynthetic rates for the amount of nitrogen in their leaves and traps. But no studies have measured simultaneously the actual construction costs of carnivorous traps and rates of photosynthesis to determine the amortization required to recover the investment (the "payback time") and thereby calculate the "marginal gain" of "investing" in carnivorous structures. The objective of this study was to measure construction costs (CCmass, grams of glucose required to build 1g of ash-free dry mass of tissue) and photosynthesis (Amass, nmol CO2 g-1 s-1) for traps, leaves, roots, and rhizomes of 15 carnivorous plant species with differing mechanisms of prey capture and consumption (pitfall traps, snap-traps, sticky pads) grown under greenhouse conditions. Payback time (h) was calculated as the quotient of CCmass and Amass after conversion to nmol of carbon per gram of ash-free dry mass. There were highly significant differences amongst species for CCmass of traps but there were no significant differences for CCmass amongst traps, roots and rhizomes. Mean (+- SD) CCmass for traps (1.14 +- 0.24 g glucose g-1) was significantly lower than the mean CCmass of leaves of 267 non-carnivorous plant species (1.47 +- 0.17 g glucose g-1). However, all 15 carnivorous plants examined in this study had low Amass and thus, the marginal gain of carnivory is small with a long payback time (524-1641 h). Our results of low CCmass for carnivorous traps is contrary to the oft-stated expectation of a high cost to construct elaborate carnivorous traps. Payback time integrates traits used to assess leaf

CATCH-EyoU: Processes in Youth's Construction of Active EU Citizenship: Wave 1 Questionnaires: Czech Republic

<p>This dataset was generated within the research project Constructing AcTive CitizensHip with European Youth: Policies, Practices, Challenges and Solutions (CATCH-EyoU) funded by European Union, Horizon 2020 Programme - Grant Agreement No 649538. Work Package 7 of this project aims to test the processes in youth&rsquo;s construction of active EU citizenship on various social and psychological levels. The main file contains&nbsp;quantitative data from the first wave of the longitudinal survey on adolescents and young adults (age 15-26). Data collection was carried out in the Czech Republic (regions Prague, South Moravian, Moravian-Silesian, Pardubicky, Vysocina) from October to December 2016. The supplementary files contain national translations of the questionnaire for the younger (15-19) and the older (20-26) subgroups.</p>

Indicative distribution map for Ecosystem Functional Group F3.2 Constructed lacustrine wetlands

<p>This archive contains indicative distribution maps and profiles for <strong>F3.2 Constructed lacustrine wetlands</strong>, a ecosystem functional group (EFG, level 3) of the <a href="https://global-ecosystems.org/">IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology</a> (v2.0). Please refer to Keith <em>et al.</em> (2020) for details.</p> <p>The descriptive profiles provide brief summaries of key ecological traits and processes, maps are indicative of global distribution patterns, and are not intended to represent fine-scale patterns. The maps show areas of the world containing major (value of 1, coloured red) or minor occurrences (value of 2, coloured yellow) of each ecosystem functional group. Minor occurrences are areas where an ecosystem functional group is scattered in patches within matrices of other ecosystem functional groups or where they occur in substantial areas, but only within a segment of a larger region. Given bounds of resolution and accuracy of source data, the maps should be used to query which EFG are likely to occur within areas, rather than which occur at particular point locations. Detailed methods and references for the maps are included in the profile (xml format).</p>

Trellis-forming stems of a tropical liana Condylocarpon guianense (Apocynaceae): a plant-made safety net constructed by simple "start-stop" development

<p>Data supporting article describing mechanical and structural organisation of a climin g plant trellis system sin the tropical rainforest of French Guiana</p> <p>Tropical vines and lianas have evolved mechanisms to avoid mechanical damage during their climbing life histories. We explore the mechanical properties and stem development of a tropical climber that develops trellises in tropical rain forest canopies. We measured the young stems of <em>Condylocarpon guianensis</em> (Apocynaceae) that construct complex trellises via self-supporting shoots, attached stems and unattached pendulous stems. The results suggest that in this species there is a size (stem diameter) and developmental threshold at which plant shoots will make the developmental transition from stiff young shoots to later flexible stem properties. Shoots that do not find a support remain stiff, becoming pendulous and retaining numerous leaves. The formation of a second TYPE II (lianoid) wood is triggered by attachment, guaranteeing increased flexibility of light-structured shoots that transition from self-supporting searchers to inter-connected net-like trellis components. The results suggest that this species shows a &ldquo;hard-wired&rdquo; development that limits self-supporting growth among the slender stems that make up a liana trellis. The strategy is linked to a stem-twining climbing mode and promotes a rapid transition to flexible trellis elements in cluttered densely branched tropical forest habitats. These are situations that are prone to mechanical perturbation via wind action, tree falls and branch movements. The findings suggest that some twining lianas are mechanically fine-tuned to produce trellises in specific habitats. Trellis building is carried out by young shoots that can perform very different functions via subtle development changes in order to ensure a safe space occupation of the liana canopy.</p>

Seismic profiles, diatom and microfossil assemblages, and radiocarbon ages for constructing a post-glacial sea level curve from Fiordland, New Zealand

Two research cruises (12PL027 and 13PL018) were conducted aboard the University of Otago RV Polaris II in 2012 and 2013 to collect marine sediment cores and 2d seismic data as part of a collaborative research effort to study late-Pleistocene and Holocene environmental change in New Zealand. Data includes 4 Boomer seismic profiles, 4 CHIRP seismic profiles, seismic line GPS tracks, diatom assemblages (raw counts and relative abundances) and microfossil assemblages (raw counts and relative abundances), and radiocarbon ages from 4 marine sediment cores. The data used to construct a post-glacial sea level curve for Fiordland, New Zealand are also included, as well as data from published literature plotted for global comparisons. Transportation network system including trails, road construction history, and gates for the Andrews Experimental Forest, 1952-2011

Transportation network locations within the Andrews Experimental Forest. Includes locations of all the roads, trails, and gates within and around the forest. Original road layer was drawn on maps in 1992 and field validated. The road construction history (1952-1990) has been captured as an attribute. Roads were updated in 2004 to include roads that have been abandoned. Gates were field checked in 2004, as well as trail locations. The three data sets were updated after the 2008 LiDAR data was delivered. Roads were digitized on-screen from the bare-earth DEM, and gates were moved to match the new road network. Trails were updated for the 2011 Andrews map update. Many were located through GPS, and new trails were added. The original data is represented, as well as the updated datasets. The road network dataset is in an esri file geodatabase format, and the other datasets are in esri shapefile format, and all are in a zipped file format.

Classical Syriac Genitive Constructions

<p>The data is sourced from the 92-page historical manuscript, <em>The Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite</em> [5th c. A.D] (Wright, 1882). A total of 116 tokens are included, collected via a method of random sampling.</p> <p>Each token corresponds to a full genitive construction: appositional (including compound nominals), periphrastic or double. Each token is transcribed in Syriac, transliterated, translated and glossed for word-class, noun features and genitive type.</p> <p>The dataset is not quality-checked; manuscript source pages for each token is provided to facilitate ease of validatation.</p>

Landslides from Space - Shenzhen Construction Waste Landslide, China (20th December 2015)

<p>On 20th December 2015 a construction waste deposit in Shenzhen failed and slid down the hill. It partially destroyed and buried an industrial building and worker living area. TCOM-H2O: TOMCAT CTM and Occultation Measurements based daily zonal stratospheric H2O profile dataset [1991-2021] constructed using machine-learning.

<p>Methodology: &nbsp;</p> <p>The <strong>TOMCAT simulation</strong> was conducted at a T64L32 resolution, consistent with previous work by Dhomse et al. (2021, 2022), covering the period from 2000 to 2024. These simulations utilized <strong>ERA-5 reanalysis data</strong>.</p> <h3>H2O Profile Processing and Bias Correction</h3> <p><strong>Collocated H2O profiles</strong> are organized into five distinct latitude bins:</p> <ul> <li> <p><strong>NH polar</strong>: 90∘N - 50∘N</p> </li> <li> <p><strong>NH mid-lat</strong>: 20∘N - 70∘N</p> </li> <li> <p><strong>Tropics</strong>: 40∘S - 40∘N</p> </li> <li> <p><strong>SH mid-lat</strong>: 70∘S - 20∘S</p> </li> <li> <p><strong>SH polar</strong>: 90∘S - 50∘S</p> </li> </ul> <p>Initially, <strong>differences between TOMCAT and satellite measurements</strong> (primarily ACE-FTS data) are calculated for each zonal bin across 51 height levels (ranging from 10,km to 60,km). Note that TOMCAT may not accurately capture H2O evolution post-HTHH eruption due to the sparse spatial coverage of ACE measurements, which limits training data.</p> <p><strong>Separate XGBoost regression models</strong> are then trained for these H2O differences at each height level within a given latitude bin. These trained models are subsequently used to estimate <strong>H2O bias corrections</strong> for all daytime TOMCAT grids (9132 days), specifically sampled at 1:30 PM local time at the equator. This yields grid-specific bias corrections that are applied to the original TOMCAT profiles.</p> <p><strong>Height-resolved H2O profile data</strong> are then interpolated onto 28 standard pressure levels (from 300,hPa to 0.1,hPa), using pressure levels directly from the TOMCAT grids. For overlapping latitude bins, values are averaged to ensure smoother fields near boundary regions.</p> <p>We acknowledge the inherent <strong>dry biases in the original TOMCAT H2O profiles</strong>, largely because the TTL entry mixing ratios are based on a simplistic sinusoidal seasonal cycle, which omits the H2O enhancement contributed by tropical convective clouds.</p> <h3>Data Files</h3> <p>The dataset includes two files containing daily mean zonal mean H2O profiles:</p> <ul> <li> <p><code>zmh2o_TCOM_hlev_T2Dz_2000-2024_V1.1.nc</code>: Contains <strong>height level data</strong> (10,km to 60,km).</p> </li> <li> <p><code>zmh2o_TCOM_plev_T2Dz_2000-2024_V1.1.nc</code>: Contains <strong>pressure level data</strong> (300,hPa to 0.1,hPa).</p> </li> </ul> <h3>Reference Publication</h3> <p>This methodology, incorporating only ACE-FTS data and various minor algorithmic developments, is based on the following publication:</p> <p>Dhomse, S. Inertial Dataset for Posture Recognition in Agriculture and Construction Tasks

<p>This <strong>dataset, manually labeled</strong>, contains <strong>10 hours and 40 minutes</strong> (60 Hz) of <strong>8 typical working posture classes</strong> (standing, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, lifting/lowering, carrying, and others), acquired with 16 subjects in three distinct scenarios in a lab environment:</p> <ol> <li>Isolated postures or short sequences without any associated task;</li> <li>Agriculture task (bricklaying) circuit;</li> <li>Construction task (harvesting) circuit.</li> </ol> <p>Two full-body inertial motion caption systems (<strong>17</strong> Xsens MTw Awinda <strong>IMUs</strong> each, from Xsens Technologies, B.V., The Netherlands) were used, connected to, respectively:</p> <ol> <li>Xsens MT Manager, providing raw inertial data (acceleration, angular velocity, and magnetic field data - csv files);</li> <li>Xsens MVN Analyze, providing processed data (quaternions, Euler angles, position, linear velocity, acceleration, angular velocity, angular acceleration, joint angles, ergonomic angles, center of mass, and magnetic field - xlsx files).</li> </ol> <div> <p>More information about the dataset acquisition and organization is detailed in readme.pdf file.&nbsp;For any questions, please contact Diogo R.
