Programming correlated magnetic states with gate-controlled moiré geometry

Understanding quantum many-body systems is at the heart of condensed matter physics. The ability to control the underlying lattice geometry of a system, and thus its many-body interactions, would enable the realization of, and transition between, emergent quantum ground states. Here, we report in-situ gate switching between honeycomb and triangular lattice geometries of an electron many-body Hamiltonian in R-stacked MoTe2 moiré bilayers, resulting in switchable magnetic exchange interactions. At zero electric field, we observe a correlated ferromagnetic insulator near one hole per moiré unit cell (v=-1), i.e., a quarter-filled honeycomb lattice, with a widely tunable Curie temperature up to 14K. A fully polarizing layer pseudospin via electric field switches the system into a half-filled triangular lattice with antiferromagnetic interactions. Further doping this layer-polarized superlattice introduces carriers into the empty layer, tuning the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction back to ferromagnetic. Our work demonstrates R-stacked MoTe2 moirés to be a new laboratory for engineering correlated states with nontrivial topology.

Data for: Correlated states in doubly-aligned hBN/graphene/hBN heterostructures

Interfacial moiré superlattice in van der Waals vertical assemblies effectively reconstructs the crystal symmetry, leading to opportunities for investigating exotic quantum states. Notably, a two-dimensional nanosheet has top and bottom open surfaces, allowing the specific case of doubly aligned super-moiré lattice to serve as a toy model for studying the tunable lattice symmetry and the complexity of related electronic structures. Here, we show that by doubly aligning a monolayered graphene to both top and bottom encapsulating hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), multiple conductivity minima are observed away from the main Dirac point, which are sensitively tunable with respect to the small twist angles. Moreover, our experimental evidences together with theoretical calculations suggest correlated insulating states at integer fillings of -5, -6, -7 electrons per moiré unit cell, possibly due to inter-valley coherence. Our results provide a way to construct intriguing strong correlations in 2D electronic systems, in the weak interaction regime.

Data release for the "First measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions on hydrocarbon without pions in the final state using multiple detectors with correlated energy spectra at T2K"

### On-/Off-Axis Data Release
#### (Version 1.0.1, dated 2024/08/12)

This tar archive contains the data release for ‘First measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions on hydrocarbon without pions in the final state using multiple detectors with correlated energy spectra at T2K’. It contains the cross-section data points and supporting information in ROOT and text format, which are detailed below:

+ `onoffaxis_xsec_data.root`
This ROOT file contains the extracted cross section and the nominal MC prediction as TH1D histograms for both the flattened 1D array of bins and in the angle binning for the analysis. The ROOT file also contains both the covariance and inverted covariance matrix for the result stored as TH2D histograms. The angle bin numbering and the corresponding bin edges are detailed at the end of the README.

+ `flux_analysis.root`
This ROOT file contains the nominal and post-fit flux histograms for ND280 and INGRID. Two different binnings are included: a fine binned histogram (220 bins) and a coarse binned histogram (20 bins). The coarse binned histogram corresponds to the flux parameters detailed in the paper (and bin edges listed in the appendix).

+ `xsec_data_mc.csv`
The extracted cross-section data points and the nominal MC prediction for each bin is stored as a comma-separated value (CSV) file with header row.

+ `cov_matrix.csv` and `inv_matrix.csv`
The covariance matrix and the inverted covariance matrix are both stored as CSV files with each row stored as a single line and columns separated by commas (there is no header row). Matrix element (0,0) corresponds to the first number in the file.

+ `nd280_analysis_binning.csv` and `ingrid_analysis_binning.csv`
The analysis bin edges are included as CSV files. The columns are labeled with a header row and denote the linear bin index and the lower and upper bin edge for the angle and momentum bins. The units are in cos(angle) for the angle bins and in MeV/c for the momentum bins.

+ `calc_chisq.cxx`
This is an example ROOT script to calculate the chi-square between the data and the nominal MC prediction using the ROOT file in the data release. To run, open ROOT and load the script (`.L calc_chisq.cxx`) and execute the function `calc_chisq("/path/to/file.root")`.

+ `calc_chisq.py`
This is an example Python script to calculate the chi-square between the data and the nominal MC prediction using the text/CSV files in the data release. The code requires NumPy as an external dependency, but otherwise uses built-in modules. To run, execute using a Python3 interpreter and give the file paths to the data/MC text file and the inverse covariance text file as the first and second arguments respectively -- e.g. `python3 calc_chisq.py /path/to/xsec_data_mc.csv /path/to/inv_matrix.csv`

+ ND280 angle bin numbering
    - 0: `-1.0 < cos(#theta) < 0.20`
    - 1: `0.20 < cos(#theta) < 0.60`
    - 2: `0.60 < cos(#theta) < 0.70`
    - 3: `0.70 < cos(#theta) < 0.80`
    - 4: `0.80 < cos(#theta) < 0.85`
    - 5: `0.85 < cos(#theta) < 0.90`
    - 6: `0.90 < cos(#theta) < 0.94`
    - 7: `0.94 < cos(#theta) < 0.98`
    - 8: `0.98 < cos(#theta) < 1.00`

+ INGRID angle bin numbering
    - 0: `0.50 < cos(#theta) < 0.82`
    - 1: `0.82 < cos(#theta) < 0.94`
    - 2: `0.94 < cos(#theta) < 1.00`

### Changelog

#### v1.0.1
Fix transcription error in INGRID momentum binning. Data from: Cognitive correlates of cerebellar resting-state functional connectivity in Parkinson disease.

Objective: The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the contributions of altered cerebellar resting-state functional connectivity (FC) to cognitive impairment in Parkinson disease (PD). Methods: We conducted morphometric and resting-state functional connectivity MRI (FC-MRI) analyses contrasting 81 PD and 43 age-matched healthy controls using rigorous quality assurance measures. To investigate the relationship of cerebellar FC to cognitive status, we compared PD participants without cognitive impairment (Clinical Dementia Rating scale, CDR=0; n=47) to PD participants with impaired cognition (CDR≥0.5; n=34). Comprehensive measures of cognition across the five cognitive domains were assessed for behavioral correlations. Results: The PD participants had significantly weaker FC between the vermis and peristriate visual association cortex compared to controls, and the strength of this FC correlated with visuospatial function and global cognition. In contrast, weaker FC between vermis and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex was found in the cognitively impaired PD group compared to PD participants without cognitive impairment. This effect correlated with deficits in attention, executive functions and global cognition. No group differences in cerebellar lobular volumes or regional cortical thickness of the significant cortical clusters were observed. Conclusion: These results demonstrate a correlation between cerebellar vermal FC and cognitive impairment in PD. The absence of significant atrophy in cerebellum or relevant cortical areas suggests this could be related to local pathophysiology such as neurotransmitter dysfunction.

Data from: Maximizing negative correlations in resting-state functional connectivity MRI by time-lag

This paper aims to better understand the physiological meaning of negative correlations in resting state functional connectivity MRI (r-fcMRI). The correlations between anatomy-based brain regions of 18 healthy humans were calculated and analyzed with and without a correction for global signal and with and without spatial smoothing. In addition, correlations between anatomy-based brain regions of 18 naïve anesthetized rats were calculated and compared to the human data. T-statistics were used to differentiate between positive and negative connections. The application of spatial smoothing and global signal correction increased the number of significant positive connections but their effect on negative connections was complex. Positive connections were mainly observed between cortical structures while most negative connections were observed between cortical and non-cortical structures with almost no negative connections between non-cortical structures. In both human and rats, negative connections were never observed between bilateral homologous regions. The main difference between positive and negative connections in both the human and rat data was that positive connections became less significant with time-lags, while negative connections became more significant with time-lag. This effect was evident in all four types of analyses (with and without global signal correction and spatial smoothing) but was most significant in the analysis with no correction for the global signal. We hypothesize that the valence of r-fcMRI connectivity reflects the relative contributions of cerebral blood volume (CBV) and flow (CBF) to the BOLD signal and that these relative contributions are location-specific. If cerebral circulation is primarily regulated by CBF in one region and by CBV in another, a functional connection between these regions can manifest as an r-fcMRI negative and time-delayed correlation. Similarly, negative correlations could result from spatially inhomogeneous responses of rCBV or rCBF alone. Consequently, neuronal regulation of brain circulation may be deduced from the valence of r-fcMRI connectivity.
