Dataset of "Impact of Carbon Corrosion and Denitrogenation on the Deactivation of Fe-N-C Catalysts in Alkaline Media"

<p>In this work, we use a gas diffusion electrode half-cell coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (GDE-ICP-MS) to quantify the Fe dissolution rates in the potential range between 0.93 and 1.5 VRHE. It is shown that Fe dissolution accelerates with increased anodic potential and temperature while it is independent on the presence/absence of O2. The onset potential of Fe dissolution at room temperature agrees with the reported onset potentials of carbon corrosion and denitrogenation, C and N being oxidized to gaseous COx and NOx species, respectively. This correlation supports that the electrochemical oxidation of the N-C matrix triggers the observed catalyst demetallation in these conditions. Using a set of ex situ physicochemical characterization techniques, including spectroscopy and microscopy, the various degrees of degradation under three sets of experimental conditions of interest (O2-RT, O2-HT, and Ar-HT, where RT = 22℃ and HT = 62℃) are rationalized. Combining the GDE-ICP-MS technique and post-mortem analyses, this work provides novel insights into the degradation pathways of various Fe, N, and C species during start-stop events, which may inspire the next generation of durable Fe-N-C catalysts for anion exchange membrane fuel cells.</p>

COQTEL dataset: Corrosion Quantification Through Extended use of Lamb waves

<p><span>Corrosion is a major threat in the aeronautic industry, both in terms of safety and cost. Ultrasonic Lamb Waves (LW) appear to be very efficient for corrosion monitoring and can be made cost effective and versatile when emitted and received by a sparse array of piezoelectric elements (PZT). A LW solution relying on a sparse PZT array and allowing to monitor corrosion pit growth on stainless 316L grade steel plate is here used to collect data during a controlled corrosion experiment. Experimentally, the corrosion pit size is electrochemically controlled by both the imposed electrical potential and the injection of a corrosive NaCl solution through a capillary located at the desired pit location. In parallel, the corrosion pit growth is monitored in-situ every 10 seconds by sending and measuring LW using a sparse array of 4 PZTs bonded to the back of the steel plate enduring corrosion. Two independent experiments were achieved in order to assess the repeatability of the proposed approach. If embedded in aeronautical structure, such an approach could be a versatile and cost-effective alternative to actual non-destructive maintenance procedures that are time and manpower consuming. This dataset can thus ease the development of associated SHM algorithms and methodologies and help filling the gap actually existing between research and industry in that domain.</span> This dataset has been used for the article "<span>In-situ monitoring of &micro;m-sized electrochemically generated corrosion pits using Lamb Waves managed by a sparse array of piezoelectric transducers" published in open access in the "Ultrasonics" peer reviewed journal by the same authors as the dataset.<br></span></p>

Experiment to measure the thickness loss due to corrosion of a 5mm uncoated steel sample exposed close to the shore during 6 months

<p>This is the data obtained during a experiment conducted in Grand Canary Island close to the shore to collect data using CEIT's ultrasound sensor node attached to a 5mm uncoated steel sample. We collected during 6 months the measured thickness taking two measures per day. The sample was considerably degraded during that time. The estimated Corrosion Rate (134um/year) was in coherence with the typical corrosion rates in real environments (100-200um/year).&nbsp;</p>

Effect of Nd on high temperatures deformation and corrosion behavior of AZE Mg alloy

<p>An extruded AZE Mg alloy (Mg-3Al-1Zn-0.6Nd) has been developed and prepared to examine the effect of the precipitated phase on corrosion and hot deformation behavior. High-temperature compression experiments show that dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurs at various experimental parameters (473 to 673 K and 1×10<sup>-4</sup> s<sup>-1</sup> to 1×10<sup>-3</sup> s<sup>-1</sup>). The deformation mechanism is dominated by dislocation slip and/or twinning. Al<sub>11</sub>Nd<sub>3</sub> precipitates with two different sizes could impede nucleation and the growth of DRXed grains. Serrated flow occurred owing to the interactions between dislocations and precipitates. The corrosion current density decreases with the addition of Nd elements. Moreover, the continuous precipitation of the Al<sub>11</sub>Nd<sub>3</sub> phase at grain boundaries reduces the corrosion rate in NaCl solution, thereby enhancing the corrosion resistance of AZE alloys.</p>

The influence of corrosion processes on the degradation of concrete cover

<p>It is a dataset for the paper that analyzes the impact of the accelerated corrosion process of reinforcing steel on the type of destruction of the concrete cover. In this work, two methods were used to accelerate corrosion. In the first method, in order to initiate corrosion processes, chloride ions were injected into the concrete using the migration method. The moment of initiation of the corrosion process was monitored using an electrochemical method of measuring polarization resistance. In the next step, the corrosion process was accelerated in the electrolysis process. Changes on the sample surface were also monitored by using a camera with which photos were taken at certain intervals. In the second method, the corrosion process of the reinforcing bar was accelerated thanks to the use of the electrolysis process but the source of chloride ions was the electrolyte in the form of a 3% NaCl solution.</p>

Influence of feature size and shape on corrosion of 316L lattice structures fabricated by laser powder bed fusion

<p><strong>An open dataset for the paper with the same title: &quot;<em>Influence of feature size and shape on corrosion of 316L lattice structures fabricated by laser powder bed fusion</em>&quot;. </strong></p> <p><strong>The dataset contains, for example, 3D models, original and analyzed microCT data, video visualizations,&nbsp;tensile testing .csv files, microscopy images, and&nbsp;code resources. Selected works are presented as part of the paper.</strong></p> <p><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p><em>Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) has become an established method for manufacturing end-use metal components. Exploiting the geometric freedom of additive manufacturing (AM) offers broad possibilities for part optimization and enables performance enhancements across industry sectors. However, part shape and feature size have been found to locally affect residual stresses, melt pool cooling rates, microstructure, and thus the mechanical properties of </em><em>components. Even though the mesoscale structure can locally induce microstructural changes, there are no prior studies on how it influences corrosion. </em><em>Using AM-produced, optimized parts in critical applications necessitates a better understanding of their long-term performance. In this study, lattice structures were used to probe the influence of feature size and shape on corrosion susceptibility and its spatial localization.</em></p> <p><em>The susceptibility of submillimeter LPBF-fabricated 316L stainless steel </em><em>lattice structures to corrosion was investigated by conducting a 21-day immersion corrosion test in an aqueous 3.5wt% NaCl solution. Schoen gyroid and Schwarz </em><em>diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices were manufactured with three unit cell sizes and wall thicknesses (0.867, 0.515, and 0.323 mm). The nominal surface and cross-sectional areas were the same for the two geometries. X-ray microcomputed tomography (microCT) scans before and after the corrosion test were compared for volumetric losses.&nbsp;<em>In addition, the </em>mechanical properties and microstructure of the samples were evaluated.</em></p> <p><em>As part of the study, a workflow to register, index, and analyze volumetric changes of consecutive microCT image stacks was developed. The method is fully reported and applicable to time-lapse studies with microCT. Three out of five of the 0.323 mm wall thickness lattices displayed visually aggressive pitting. Based on the microcomputed tomography data, the mass losses were localized either in the entrapped powder particles or partially melted surface globules. Corrosion did not occur in the dense base material. The total mass losses ranged from 8 to 19 mg. Despite visual indications to support a higher corrosion susceptibility for the smallest lattice sizes, the mass loss values did not confirm this conclusion. The tensile test results did not provide any clear indications of latent corrosion effects on mechanical properties.</em></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><em>Version 1.1: &#39;Microstructure.zip&#39; was revised. A Multimodal Dataset on Stainless Steel for Electrochemical Corrosion Studies: Optical Microscopy and Linear Sweep Voltammetry

<p>The upload includes optical and electrochemical data for corrosion experiments.</p> <p>This dataset presents the results of an experimental study conducted to investigate the electrochemical behavior of electropolished Stainless Steel 316L (SS316L) samples immersed in NaCl solutions. The combination of Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) and optical microscopy techniques was employed to gather comprehensive insights into the electrochemical processes occurring on the surface of the stainless steel samples.</p> <p>The samples used in the experiment were electropolished SS316L, chosen for its widely recognized corrosion resistance properties and frequent application in various industrial sectors. LSV was performed on the samples in a potential range of -0.5V to 1.35V, (vs 3.4M KCl&nbsp;Ag/AgCl). NaCl solutions with concentrations of 5mM, 10mM, and 50mM were prepared to simulate different electrolyte conditions.</p> <p>Two different scan rates, 50mV/s and 100mV/s, were applied during the LSV experiments to observe the effect of varying scan rates on the electrochemical behavior of the SS316L samples.
