Plant Atlas 2020 — British and Irish vascular plant and charophyte 10 x 10 km distribution trends for 1930–2019 (long-term) and 1987–2019 (short-term), including country-level breakdowns
<p>Plant Atlas 2020 is the most comprehensive survey of plants (flowering plants, ferns and charophytes) ever undertaken in Britain and Ireland. It is based on over 30 million records, collected mainly by volunteer recorders of the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) between 2000 and 2019, as well as previous nationwide surveys undertaken in the 1950s and 1990s. This resource provides the data for the long- (1930–2019) and short- term (1987–2019) 10 x 10 km (“hectad”) distribution trends, presented in both the <em>Plant Atlas 2020</em> book (Stroh et al., 2023) and website (www.plantatlas2020.org).</p>

<p>The dataset contains all the data produced running the research software for the study:"Open Science for Social Sciences and Humanities: Open Access availability and distribution across disciplines and Countries in OpenCitations Meta".</p> <p>Disclaimer: these results are not considered to be representative, because we have fount that Mega Journals skewed significantly some of the data. The result datasets without Mega Journals are published <a href="https://zenodo.org/record/8249907">here</a>.</p> <p>Description of datasets:</p> <ul> <li><strong>SSH_Publications_in_OC_Meta_and_Open_Access_status.csv: </strong>containing information about OpenCitations Meta coverage of ERIH PLUS Journals as well as their Open Access availability. In this dataset, every row holds data for a Journal of ERIH PLUS also covered by OpenCitations Meta database. The underlying premise is that open infrastructures play a pivotal role in promoting transparency, reproducibility, and trust in scientific research.<br> <strong>Study Design and Methodology:</strong> the study is grounded on the premise that open infrastructures are crucial for ensuring transparency, reproducibility, and fostering trust in scientific research. The research methodology involved the use of secondary data sources, namely the OpenCitations Meta database, the ERIH PLUS bibliographic index, and the DOAJ index. A custom research software was developed in Python to facilitate the processing and analysis of the data.<br> <strong>Findings:</strong> the results reveal that 78.1% of SSH journals listed in the European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH-PLUS) are included in the OpenCitations Meta database. The discipline of Psychology has the highest number of publications. The United States and the United Kingdom are the leading contributors in terms of the number of publications. However, the study also uncovers that only 38% of the SSH journals in the OpenCitations Meta database are OA.<br> <strong>Originality:</strong> this research adds to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the representation of SSH in open bibliographic databases and the role of open access in this domain. The study highlights the necessity for advocating OA practices within SSH and the significance of open data for bibliometric studies. Open Science for Social Sciences and Humanities: Open Access availability and distribution across disciplines and Countries in OpenCitations Meta - RESULTS DATASET (without Mega Journals)
<p>The dataset contains all the data produced running the research software for the study <em>Open Science for Social Sciences and Humanities: Open Access availability and distribution across disciplines and Countries in OpenCitations Meta</em>, a research carried out in the contest of the Open Science course 22/23 at the University of Bologna.</p> <p>Mega Journals have been excluded form the datasets, since we found they were significantly skewing the results, the only datasets not interested by this exclusion are <strong>SSH_Publications_in_OC_Meta_and_Open_Access_status </strong>and<strong> duplicate_omids.</strong> The result datasets with Mega Journals included are published <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8250858">here</a><br> The Journals excluded from the results are: PLOS ONE (issn:1932-6203), PNAS (issn:1091-6490), Science (issn:1095-9203), Nature(issn:0028-0836).</p> <p>Description of datasets:</p> <ul> <li><strong>SSH_Publications_in_OC_Meta_and_Open_Access_status.csv: </strong>containing information about OpenCitations Meta coverage of ERIH PLUS Journals as well as their Open Access availability. Plant diversity darkspots for global collection priorities: time-to-event datasets per botanical country as defined by the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions (WGSRPD).
<p>Datasets used to predict the number of plant species remaining to be described and/or geolocated within a botanical country, which represents the third level of subdivision (generally equating to a political country) used by WGSRPD for recording plant distributions. The folder is composed of two subfolders <em>has_coords</em> and <em>has_no_coords</em> containing the time-to-event data for species with valid and no (invalidated) occurrence records within a given botanical country respectively<em>.</em></p> <ul> <li>Each folder contains a<strong> </strong>list of 361 botanical countries with the following 16 fields:</li> </ul> <pre><strong>species:</strong> species name<br><strong>time_ofdescription:</strong> year of the (first) description<br><strong>time_ofcollection:</strong> year of the collection of the earliest record<br><strong>family:</strong> species family name<br><strong>lifeform_description: </strong>the life form categorised into 4 classes <br><strong>CHELSA_bio_1: </strong>annual mean temperature (°C)<br><strong>CHELSA_bio_12:</strong> annual precipiation (mm)<br><strong>CHELSA_bio_15</strong>: temperature seasonality (-)<br><strong>CHELSA_bio_4</strong>: precipitation seasonality (-)<br><strong>elevation</strong>: elevation (m)<br><strong>range_size_area:</strong> total area of the botanical countries encompassing the species' native range <br>according to the World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) (km^2) <br><strong>taxo_activity</strong>: taxonomic activity calculated as the number of named authors in the World Checklist of Vascular Plants<br>describing species from the same family during the year of description of the species,<br>divided by the number of species described within the given family that year. <br><strong>num_records_per_year:</strong> geographic activity calculated as the number of occurrence records<br>collected within the native range of the species, divided by the number of years between <br>the earliest and the lastest (first) record collected within this range.<br><strong>num_uses</strong>: number of human uses<br><strong>time_todescription:</strong> number of years between the (first) description and 1753<br><strong>time_tocollection:</strong> number of years between the (first) description and the collection of the first record of the species<br><br></pre> <p> </p>
