Multi-year census of arthropod abundance on the plant Ligusticum porteri near Crested Butte, CO
The purpose of this study was to track year-to-year variation in aphid abundance on the host plant Ligusticum porteri (Apiaceae). We censused arthropod abundance on the flowering stalks of L. porteri weekly in June-August from 2017 to 2022. The censuses took place in ten L. porteri populations near Crested Butte, CO. The sites were by Brush Creek, Lake Irwin, and Washington Gulch. While the same populations were used across years, we randomly selected ten flowering plants in each population in each year (N = 100 plants per year). Observations focused on colonization by the aphid Aphis asclepiadis, its mutualist ants, and natural enemies. When found, we counted other arthropods as well, identifying them to Family or Order in the field. We also counted the number of host plant flowering stalks and inflorescences (umbel). We tracked flowering phenology using a numerical score (0-8). To track senescence, we used a qualitative score (TB=turning brown and AB=all brown) for terminal and primary umbels.
Landscape Flowering Phenology Field Data for Sites in the Vicinity of Crested Butte, CO
This dataset represents field observations of reproductive development (flowering phenology) in 135 species of flowering plants collected at 12 field sites in the vicinity of Crested Butte, Colorado starting in 2019. Sites were visited approximately weekly from early May until early August, and all species in flower were recorded in 25 segments along a 50m transect at each site, and species were recorded if they were within 1m of either side of the transect. Datasets included in this package are 1) cleaned field observations of flowering phenology, 2) taxonomic identity of all recorded species, 3) spatial data representing the location of the center of each transect segment, and 4) spatial data representing the segment polygons.
A meteorology and snow dataset from adjacent forested and meadow sites at Crested Butte, CO, USA

This dataset contains meteorology and snow observation data collected at sites in the southwestern Colorado Rocky Mountains during water years 2019-2021. Data collection had an emphasis on paired open-forest sites and included three forested elevations. In total, we present 270 snow pit observations, 4,019 snow depth measurements, and three years of meteorological forcing from two weather stations (one in a meadow, the other in an adjacent forest). The dataset is described in a forthcoming publication of the same name: A meteorology and snow dataset from adjacent forested and meadow sites at Crested Butte, CO, USA (Bonner et al., 2022).

All snow observation and meteorological forcing data are available as both .nc and .mat files.
Additionally, original digitized copies of snow pit observations are provided as .gsheet/.xlxs files.

This dataset will continue to be updated, via this repository, as additional years of data are collected.

Arthropod abundance in sweep net samples of sites near Crested Butte, CO in 2017-2020
The purpose of this study was to track year-to-year variation in arthropod communities of the host plant Ligusticum porteri (Apiaceae). In each study year (2017-2020), we used sweep nets to sample the arthropods at each of twenty sites containing populations of L. porteri. Sampling took place the end of June (June 28-30th), and we standardized sampling effort across years. Two field technicians netted insects from vegetation at a consistent pace for 30 seconds each. We sorted and identified insects to Order using a dissection microscope and a project-specific taxonomic key. Non-insect arthropods were also counted but not identified to additional taxonomic levels.
