PIE LTER transects of the Parker River Plum Island Sound Estuary, Massachusetts conducted at dawn and dusk, containing dissolved oxygen, conductivity, temperature, percent saturation, pH, DIC and pCO2 data.

Multi-year transects, beginning in 1995, of the Parker River Plum Island Sound Estuary conducted at dawn and dusk, containing dissolved oxygen, conductivity, temperature, percent saturation, pH, salinity, DIC and pCO2 measurements. Differences between dawn and dusk measurements can be used to determine the water metabolism and corresponding estimates of gross primary production, total system respiration and net ecosystem production.

DIC and DOC 13C tracer data from Shark River Slough and Harney River (FCE), Everglades, South Florida in November 2011

As part of the larger NSF WSC funded project, an SF6 tracer study was conducted in November of 2011 by working groups form ENP, FIU and Univ. of Hawaii. This work included the release of the tracer (SF6), which was sampled in a lagrangian approach as the tracer “patch” moved from the fresh water portion of the system to the mangrove ecotone along the Shark and Harney Rivers. The goal of this study was to measure carbon export through the system. Annie Palya used our new CRDS system to measure the isotopic composition (d13C) of the DOM & DIC (analyzed at RSMAS) during this study, as carbon isotopes may help to resolve different sources of carbon. This analytical approach is relatively new, and will be important for understanding the C-dynamics within the FCE.

Accession numbers for radiocarbon and stable carbon isotopes of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in soil leachates from permafrost soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in the summers of 2018 and 2022

Leachates of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) from permafrost soils were prepared from soils collected from the North Slope of Alaska in 2018 and 2022. Soil leachates were then either kept in the dark or exposed to light from LEDs at 305 nm (UV) and 405 nm (visible), and then inoculated with native microbial communities and incubated. At the start of the biological incubations, single replicates of the DOC after dark or light treatment and inoculation were assigned accession numbers and analyzed for 14C and 13C at the National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) facility. At the end of the biological incubations, duplicates of the dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in those waters were assigned accession numbers and analyzed for 14C and 13C at the NOSAMS facility.

Surface water DIC, total alkalinity, and pH for the September 2002 through December 2004 Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER oceanographic surveys

Surface water samples for total dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), total alkalinity (TAlk), and pH were collected from the Altamaha River, Doboy Sound, Sapelo River and the Duplin River (anchor station near Marsh Landing) during the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER oceanographic surveys from September 2002 through December 2004. DIC was measured using a custom automated DIC analyzer. Total alkalinity was determined by Gran titration. pH of surface water at stations was measured on board using a glass electrode. This study was part of the GCE oceanographic monitoring program, and will be repeated periodically.
