NetCDF data used in analysis presented in "Assessment of the z~ time-filtered Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian coordinate in a global eddy-permitting ocean model"

<p>NetCDF data used in analysis presented in&nbsp;&quot;Assessment of the z~ time-filtered Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian coordinate in a global eddy-permitting ocean model&quot;, submitted to Journal of Advances in Modelling the Earth System.</p> <p>The data are produced from an ensemble of six experiments based on the GO8p0 configuration of NEMO v4.0.1 on a&nbsp;global 1/4&deg; grid, as described in the paper. The ensemble is intended to test the z~ vertical coordinate, and includes a control with the&nbsp;default &quot;z-star&quot; fixed&nbsp;coordinate, and five experiments with the z-tilde vertical coordinate, using a selection of values for the two z-tilde timescale parameters. The data includes time series of global mean ocean and ice fields; large-scale transports; and fields from diapycnal&nbsp;mixing analysis.</p> <p>The first part of each filename refers to the experiment from&nbsp;the ensemble (&quot;zstar&quot;, &quot;ztilde_5_30&quot;, &quot;ztilde_10_30&quot;, &quot;ztilde_20_30&quot;, ztilde_20_60&quot; and &quot;ztilde_40_60&quot;);&nbsp;the following five-character string&nbsp;identifies&nbsp;the respective suite on the Met Office Rose system and the MASS archive system; and the rest of the name specifies the type of data contained in the file.</p>

Data from: How do baleen whales stow their filter? A comparative biomechanical analysis of baleen bending

Bowhead and right whale (balaenid) baleen filtering plates, longer in vertical dimension (3-4+ m) than the closed mouth, presumably bend during gape closure. This has not been observed in live whales, even with scrutiny of videorecorded feeding sequences. To determine what happens to baleen as gape closes, we conducted an integrative, multifactorial study including materials testing, functional (flow tank and kinematic) testing, and histological examination. We measured baleen bending properties along the dorsoventral length of plates and anteroposterior location within a rack of plates via mechanical (axial bending, composite flexure, compression, and tension) tests of hydrated and air-dried tissue samples from balaenid and other whale baleen. Balaenid baleen is remarkably strong yet pliable, with ductile fringes and low stiffness and high elasticity when wet; it likely bends in the closed mouth when not used for filtration. Calculation of flexural modulus from stress/strain experiments shows baleen is slightly more flexible where it emerges from the gums and at its ventral terminus, but kinematic analysis indicates plates bend evenly along their whole length. Fin and humpback whale baleen has similar material properties but less flexibility, with no dorsoventral variation. Internal horn tubes have greater external and hollow luminal diameter but lower density in lateral relative to medial baleen of bowhead and fin whales, suggesting greater capacity for lateral bending. Baleen bending has major consequences not only for feeding morphology and energetics but also conservation given that entanglement in fishing gear is a leading cause of whale mortality.

Data from: Seed dispersal by ungulates as an ecological filter: a trait-based meta-analysis

Plant communities are often dispersal-limited and zoochory can be an efficient mechanism for plants to colonize new patches of potentially suitable habitat. We predicted that seed dispersal by ungulates acts as an ecological filter – which differentially affects individuals according to their characteristics and shapes species assemblages – and that the filter varies according to the dispersal mechanism (endozoochory, fur-epizoochory and hoof-epizoochory). We conducted two-step individual participant data meta-analyses of 52 studies on plant dispersal by ungulates in fragmented landscapes, comparing eight plant traits and two habitat indicators between dispersed and non-dispersed plants. We found that ungulates dispersed at least 44% of the available plant species. Moreover, some plant traits and habitat indicators increased the likelihood for plant of being dispersed. Persistent or nitrophilous plant species from open habitats or bearing dry or elongated diaspores were more likely to be dispersed by ungulates, whatever the dispersal mechanism. In addition, endozoochory was more likely for diaspores bearing elongated appendages whereas epizoochory was more likely for diaspores released relatively high in vegetation. Hoof-epizoochory was more likely for light diaspores without hooked appendages. Fur-epizoochory was more likely for diaspores with appendages, particularly elongated or hooked ones. We thus observed a gradient of filtering effect among the three dispersal mechanisms. Endozoochory had an effect of rather weak intensity (impacting six plant characteristics with variations between ungulate-dispersed and non-dispersed plant species mostly below 25%), whereas hoof-epizoochory had a stronger effect (eight characteristics included five ones with above 75% variation), and fur-epizoochory an even stronger one (nine characteristics included six ones with above 75% variation). Our results demonstrate that seed dispersal by ungulates is an ecological filter whose intensity varies according to the dispersal mechanism considered. Ungulates can thus play a key role in plant community dynamics and have implications for plant spatial distribution patterns at multiple scales.

Comparative membrane proteomic analysis of Tritrichomonas foetus isolates (non filtered Data Sets)

<p>Tritrichomonas foetus is a flagellated and anaerobic parasite able to infect cattle and felines. Despite its prevalence, there is no effective standardized or legal treatment for T. foetus-infected cattle; the vaccination still has limited success in mitigating infections and reducing abortion risk; and nowadays, the diagnosis of T. foetus presents important limitations in terms of sensitivity and specificity in bovines. Here, we characterize the plasma membrane proteome of T. foetus and identify proteins that are represented in different isolates of this protozoan.&nbsp; Raw proteomics data sets from MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry presented here corresponds to six T. foetus isolates (Tf0-Tf5). For Tf2 isolate also five membrane fractions are presented (f1-f5).&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Filtered Data from the Retrospective Analysis of Antarctic Tracking Data Project from the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research

<p>The Retrospective Analysis of Antarctic Tracking Data (RAATD) is a Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research (SCAR) project led jointly by the Expert Groups on Birds and Marine Mammals and Antarctic Biodiversity Informatics, and endorsed by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources. The RAATD project team consolidated tracking data for multiple species of Antarctic meso- and top-predators to identify Areas of Ecological Significance. These datasets constitute the compiled tracking data from a large number of research groups that have worked in the Antarctic since the 1990s.<br> <br> This metadata record pertains to the &quot;filtered&quot; version of the data files. These files contain position estimates that have been processed using a state-space model in order to estimate locations at regular time intervals. For technical details of the filtering process, consult the data paper. The filtering code can be found in the https://github.com/SCAR/RAATD repository.<br> <br> This data set comprises one metadata csv file that describes all deployments, along with data files (3 files for each of 17 species). For each species there is:<br> - an RDS file that contains the fitted TMB filter model object and model predictions (this file is RDS format that can be read by the R statistical software package)<br> - a PDF file that shows the quality control results for each individual model<br> - a CSV file containing the interpolated position estimates<br> <br> For details of the file contents and formats, consult the data paper.</p> <p>The original copy of these data are available through the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (https://data.aad.gov.au/metadata/records/SCAR_EGBAMM_RAATD_2018_Filtered)</p> <p><br> The data are also available in a standardized version (see https://data.aad.gov.au/metadata/records/SCAR_EGBAMM_RAATD_2018_Standardised) that contain position estimates as provided by the original data collectors (generally, raw Argos or GPS locations, or estimated GLS locations) without state-space filtering.</p>
