Long-term water quality monitoring in the Altamaha, Doboy and Sapelo sounds and the Duplin River near Sapelo Island, Georgia from November 2013 to December 2022
Water samples were collected on Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER oceanographic monitoring cruises from November 2012 through December 2022. Monthly samples were collected from GCE 6 (high and low tide) and GCE 7 (high tide). Quarterly samples were collected from the remaining GCE sites and AL-02, the Altamaha River oceanic end-member station. Concentrations of the following were measured using standard analytical methods: dissolved nutrients (phosphate, nitrate+nitrite, ammonium, silicate), dissolved organics (carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus) and particulate carbon and nitrogen, chlorophyll, phaeopigments, total suspended solids and loss on ignition.
Continuous salinity, temperature and depth measurements from moored hydrographic data loggers deployed at GCE6_Hydro (Doboy Sound south of Sapelo Island, Georgia) from 01-Jan-2021 through 31-Dec-2021
Conductivity, temperature and pressure were measured continuously at Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER sampling location GCE6_Hydro (Doboy Sound south of Sapelo Island, Georgia) from 01-Jan-2021 through 31-Dec-2021. Observations were logged at 30 minute intervals by moored Sea-Bird Electronics MicroCAT 37-SM data loggers and downloaded approximately quarterly. Salinity, depth and sigma-t (density anomaly) were calculated from the measured parameters using standard UNESCO algorithms. This data set was collected as part of the GCE-LTER Project continuous salinity, temperature and water level monitoring program.

Dissolved Organic Matter Composition in Doboy Sound and the Altamaha River near Sapelo Island, Georgia in 2012-2013
The composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the Altamaha River estuary and Doboy Sound near Sapelo Island, Georgia, was investigated at the molecular level using ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry and stable carbon isotope analyses. DOM samples were collected in November 2012, May 2013, and September 2013 representing different hydrological regimes, including anomalously low-discharge conditions. DOM was also collected from water as it flooded and ebbed from an extensive marsh area at Sapelo Island in May 2013. The untargeted approach used allowed for identifying the DOM molecular signatures associated with different DOM sources in the estuary.
Microbially-Mediated Transformations of Estuarine Dissolved Organic Matter from Doboy Sound, Sapelo Sound and the Altamaha River near Sapelo Island, Georgia in 2012-2013
Dissolved organic matter (DOM) samples were collected from a marsh-dominated estuarine system (Altamaha River estuary, Doboy Sound and Sapelo Sound near Sapelo Island, Georgia), inoculated with native microbiological samples, and incubated in the dark for up to 70 days. Control and incubated DOM samples were then anlyzed using ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry to investiage microbially-mediated transformations at the molecular level. Samples were collected at high tide in November 2012 and May 2013.

Spring 2001 CTD profiles for the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Doboy Sound transect
A sequence of four hydrographic surveys were performed on June 1, 2001, along an east-to-west transect through Doboy Sound near Sapelo Island, Georgia. Vertical CTD profiles were collected at 2km intervals from 0km to 12km along the transect during various tidal regimes. Conductivity, temperature, pressure and optical backscatter were measured, and depth, salinity and sigma-t were calculated for each profile. Data values collected on the upcast were deleted, and the remaining data were averaged within 0.5m depth bins and interpolated to produce a smooth profile for contouring. This data set was collected as part of the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER quarterly hydrographic monitoring program.
