National Energy and Climate Plans - Preliminary analysis on Prosumerism for 9 EU Member States

Preliminary check on the provisions on self-consumption and energy communities in the draft National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) of nine EU Member States (BE, DE, ES, FR, HR, IT, NL, PT, UK). The main findings are that only France and Spain put a reasonable emphasis on the importance of self-consumption and energy communities as suggested by RED II. Germany and Italy show some efforts while the NECPs of the other five member states contain only weak or no provisions on prosumerism. Most countries don’t define neither targets nor measures.

FADN data on the support under the CAP delimited for LAU2 (NUTS2) regions in the EU Member States for the 2007-2013 programming period

Ready to use FADN dataset on the support under the CAP in 2007-2013 delimited for LAU2 (NUTS2) regions in the EU Member States.

Investigation of the interaction between Cohesion and Rural Policies requires analysing comparable data. However, the CAP data are usually collected at the national level. The FADN database is the only data source for analysing the impact of agricultural policy instruments on the economic situation of farms. However, the regional breakdown of FADN data in some countries does not correspond to the NUTS2 breakdown for which cohesion policy is defined.

The provided FADN data delimitation uses a methodology that takes into account the range of impact and features specific to a given region. Because the research shows a very strong relationship between the amount of support under the CAP and the number and size of farms on a given area, this criterion was used to delimit FADN data for particular LAU2 (NUTS2) regions, while maintaining the allocation to individual measures.

FADN data aggregated (averaged) to the level of FADN regions and economic size classes were used. Each FADN region has been assigned a corresponding NUTS2 region (or regions) according to the classification in 2010 in which the full census of the farm structure survey was carried out. The delimitation of FADN data to NUTS2 regions was based on weights constructed on the basis of Eurostat data on utilised agricultural area and number of holdings in 2010. In each economic size class, each FADN region consisted of the sum of the NUTS2 regions weighted by the utilised agricultural area. The result of each FADN variable was the sum of its values in each economic size class, weighted by the total number of holdings in each class.

This database has served as a basis for two articles, one validating the assumptions of the NUTS2 (LAU) delimitation of the FADN regions and the other using the database to compare synergies and trade-offs between cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy.

Woody biomass flows in the EU Member States for the years 2009-2017

This dataset, available in the file JRC_Forestry_Sankey_2009_2017_vers2022.csv, contains the amounts of woody biomass flowing across the different sectors of the forest-based bioeconomy, for all the Member States of the European Union, from 2009 to 2017. These amounts, here expressed in thousand cubic meters solid wood equivalent, represent the arrows of a Sankey diagram per each Member State and per each year.
The interactive graphical visualisation of this dataset is available at: https://knowledge4policy.ec.europa.eu/visualisation/interactive-sankey-diagrams-woody-biomass-flows-eu-member-states_en.
The codes of the arrows (flows) and the codes of the starting and end nodes, together with the type of biomass that flows from one node to the other, are reported in detail in the file: arrow_codes.csv.
All the definitions are available in the file: Definitions.txt.

© European Union, 1995-2023

Dataset 1: EU Democracy Support Actions

This dataset comprises democracy support actions conducted by the European Union towards the eastern neighbourhood countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine) from 2010 to 2022. It includes projects that began earlier but continued or concluded after 2010. Data for 414 projects were collected from official documents, archives, and websites. The projects are categorized by individual countries and joint initiatives, offering detailed explanations of each project’s approach, objectives, domestic challenges, and opportunities.

Dataset 2: EU Member States' Democracy Support Actions

The dataset comprises democracy support actions conducted by seven EU member states towards the eastern neighbourhood countries from 2010 to 2022. It includes projects sourced from the OECD ODA databases (https://stats.oecd.org/qwids/) and covers the three largest projects by funding volume from the Government and Civil Society and Education sectors provided by seven EU member states: Germany, Sweden, Romania, Poland and the three Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) to six EU eastern neighbourhood countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
