The solid grey line highlights the presence of an extensive ghost lineage that trace the origins of advanced neosuchians back to the Early Jurassic. This extension implies a long unknown period in their history that predates their first appearance by more than 50 million years. Such a remote origin, coupled with the worldwide distribution of the group can be indicative of an initial diversification prior to the effective separation of the major continental landmasses.
