IODP Expedition 367 X-ray fluorescence (XRF)

Elemental peak intensities in section halves were measured by an Avaatech X-ray fluorescence (XRF) Core Scanner postexpedition. Each measurement position may be measured at multiple XRF conditions in order to excite and measure specific ranges of elements (e.g., 10 kV and no filter for light elements). Peak intensity changes (concentrations not provided) are then used to help recognize and define major chemostratigraphic units without the need for destructive sampling. Data are presented in comma-delimited (CSV) files by section and by energy/instrumental conditions.

IODP Expedition 367 Bulk Density (GRA)

Gamma ray attenuation (GRA) data were acquired using a Cs-137 collimated source and a sodium iodide (thallium), or NaI(Tl), scintillation detector. The signal was calibrated using water and aluminum standards to provide a proxy for bulk density. This measurement was performed by a sensor mounted on either the Whole-Round Multisensor Logger (WRMSL) or the Special Task Multisensor Logger (STMSL); which track was used for a given data set is indicated in the data.

IODP Expedition 367 Carbonates composite report

This composite report includes data from two analyses (total carbon from Elemental analysis [CHNS], and inorganic carbon from [Coulometer]). Each row combines the CHNS and Coulometer data from measurements made on the same sample at the same time for a particular section and section offset (depth). If data do not exist for a particular expedition, the column does not appear. To identify individual samples and tests, see each separate data type (Elemental analysis and Coulometer). If the same sample was measured multiple times by any of the methods, results in the report will be combined on one line where possible. Each additional replicate result will be shown in subsequent rows and will be combined where possible. Report includes results for carbon forms: total, inorganic, calcium carbonate, and organic by difference, along with total hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur.

IODP Expedition 367 Whole-round core section composite 360 degree images

Images of the outside of hard rock whole-round sections were acquired using a linescan imager (Section Half Imaging Logger [SHIL]) and a special holder that allows each 90 degree segment of the outer surface to be positioned properly. The images were taken at a resolution of 20 lines/mm (50 micropixels). JRSO staff take these quadrant images and compile them into a side-by-side rollout photograph of the section. Composite images are available as both JPG and TIF image formats. Individual quadrant images are available as JPG images only through this report; contact the IODP-JRSO Data Librarian if quadrant TIF files (~160 MB) are needed.

IODP Expedition 367 Thin section images

Hard rock and sediment thin section images were acquired using either the JRSO-developed Petrographic Image Capture and Archival Tool (PICAT) imager or (rarely) an upright microscope and a digital camera. Sample images are acquired in unpolarized, polarized, and/or cross-polarized light. Image files are presented compressed by hole.

IODP Expedition 367 Titration

Various chemical constituents (most commonly chloride) were measured by titration using either an autotitrator (chloride) or a manual titrator (other compounds). Chloride was measured by ion-selective electrode and a silver nitrate titration until all chloride is bound as silver chloride.

IODP Expedition 367 Thermal conductivity

Thermal conductivity was measured using the heated needle method in either full-space needle configuration (soft/saturated sediments) or half-space needle configuration (harder materials) of a TeKa Berlin TK-04 thermal conductivity meter. Heat is applied to the sample and then thermal equilibrium is sought. The heating and equilibration curve is reduced to derive the thermal conductivity value. Raw data are stored if a user wishes to do off-line or postexpedition reduction.

IODP Expedition 367 Magnetic remanence (SRM-longcore)

Magnetic remanence was measured on section halves (and rarely on whole-round sections) using a 2G Enterprises 760R cryogenic magnetometer, first as natural remanent magnetization (NRM) and then after demagnetization steps were performed on the samples by alternating field (AF) demagnetizer coils mounted in-line within the instrument.

IODP Expedition 367 Magnetic remanence (spinner)

Magnetic remanence was measured on discrete samples by an Agico JR-6A spinner magnetometer, first as natural remanent magnetization (NRM) and then after demagnetization or remagnetization steps were performed on the samples (e.g., alternating field [AF] demagnetization, thermal demagnetization [TD], or isothermal remanent magnetization [IRM]).

IODP Expedition 367 Closeup images

Close-up images taken by digital cameras as requested by the science party, typically when the section-half image is not sufficient. Close-up photographs of the areas of interest may be taken from whole-round sections, pieces, or section halves in sediments and rock.
