The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: These data describe the species abundance and size distributions of fishes surveyed as part of MCR LTER's annual reef fish monitoring program. This study began in 2005 and the dataset is updated annually. The abundances of all mobile taxa of fishes (Scarids, Labrids, Acanthurids, Serranids, etc.) observed on a five by fifty meter transect which extends from the bottom to the surface of the water column are recorded by a diver using SCUBA. The diver then swims back along a one by fifty meter section of the original transect line and records the abundances of all non-mobile or cryptic taxa of fishes (Pomacentids, Gobiids, Cirrhitids, Holocentrids etc). Surveys are conducted between 0900 and 1600 hours (Moorea time) during late July or early August each year. In 2006, divers also began to estimate the size (length) of each fish observed to the nearest half cm. Four replicate transects are surveyed in each of six locations on the forereef (two on each of Moorea's three sides), six locations on the backreef (two on each of Moorea's three sides) and on six locations on the fringing reef (two on each of Moorea's three sides) for a total of 72 individual transects. Transects are permanently marked using a series of small, stainless steel posts affixed to the reef. Transects on the forereef are located at a depth of approximately 12m, those on the backreef are located at a depth of approximately 1.5m and those on the fringing reef are located at a depth of approximately 10m. These sites reflect several oceanographic regimes in the channel and vary in distance from sources of terrestrial runoff. Summer water chemistry, high frequency sensors, zooplankton and benthic macroinvertebrate community composition, periphyton, fish, and macrophyte biomass, along with lake metabolism and greenhouse gas dynamics in six experimental ponds in central Iowa, USA (2020)
This data product contains physical, chemical, and biological data ranging from the minute to daily to weekly scale in six artificial ponds (400 square meter surface area, 2m depth) in central Iowa (USA) 2020. Ponds were paired into three sets of treatment and reference with treatment ponds receiving two nutrient pulses designed to increase ambient phosphorus concentrations ~ 3 - 5%. Nitrogen and phosphorus were added as NH4NO3 and H3PO4, respectively, at a 24:1 molar ratio. The first nutrient pulse occurred on Julian day of year (DOY) 176 corresponding to a 3% increase and the second nutrient pulse occurred on DOY 211 to a 5% increase. Each treatment-reference set had a different food web structure established ranging between low, intermediate, and high complexity based on trophic connectivity and food chain length. Added to this data package is a document titled "2020 Iowa State University Horticultural Farm Experimental Ponds Nutrient Addition Experiment". For experimental set up, context, and a summary table of the data tables archived herein with available variables please review this document. The Sierra Lakes Inventory Project: Non-Native fish and community composition of lakes and ponds in the Sierra Nevada, California
The Sierra Lakes Inventory Project (SLIP) was a research endeavor that ran from 1995-2002 and has supported research and management of Sierra Nevada aquatic ecosystems and their terrestrial interfaces. We described the physical characteristics of and surveyed aquatic communities for > 8,000 lentic water bodies in the southern Sierra Nevada, including lakes, ponds, marshes, and meadows. We also created digital map layers for these water bodies when such layers did not exist. The original objective of SLIP was to describe impacts of non-native fish on lake communities, but SLIP data has subsequently enabled study of additional ecological issues, including regional amphibian declines and their impacts on communities, and impacts of non-native fish on terrestrial species. In addition, these data are being used to develop fish removal efforts to restore aquatic ecosystems and recover endangered amphibians. The SLIP data is stored in a relational database that collectively describes water bodies (e.g., depth, elevation, location), surveys (conditions, effort), and communities (including approximately 170 fish, amphibian, reptile, benthic macroinvertebrate, and zooplankton taxa).

Fish community data obtained from Antillean-Z fish trap deployment in the Eastern Gulf of Shark Bay, Australia from June 2013 to August 2013
This dataset consists of capture data of teleost communities caught in Antillean-Z fish traps deployed in 2013. Also included are anciliary environmental data as well as trap deployment information. This dataset will be used to determine changes in teleost community structure and abundance in response to an extreme temperature event and associated decline in seagrass cover in Shark Bay, Western Australia.
MCR LTER: Coral Reef: Long-term Population and Community Dynamics: Fishes, ongoing since 2005
These data describe the estimated species abundances and individual sizes of fishes surveyed in late July or early August of each year by researchers associated with the Moorea Coral Reef Long Term Ecological Research site. This study began in 2005, and the dataset is updated annually. Divers using SCUBA estimate the number and total length (total body length to the greatest precision possible) of all mobile and semi-cryptic fishes observed on four 50m long transects within each of the three principal habitat types, fore reef, back reef, and fringing reef, found around Moorea. These three habitats are each surveyed at six permanently marked sites, two sites on each of Moorea's three shores, yielding a total of 18 unique habitats (3) by location (6) combinations and 72 transects. Estimated total lengths are converted to estimates of species biomass using published length-weight relationships for each species. Data from the initial survey conducted in 2005 are presented in a separate data table as the protocol used in 2005 differed from the standard protocol adopted in 2006, and no estimates of fish body lengths were made in 2005. These data are a component of the MCR LTER core time series program and provide insight into the spatial and temporal patterns of reef fish abundance and biomass around the island of Moorea, French Polynesia.

SBC LTER: Reef: Seasonal Kelp Forest Community Dynamics: Fish abundance
These data describe the abundance and size of reef-associated fish within permanent plots of SBCLTER's seasonal kelp forest monitoring program to track long-term patterns in species abundance and diversity. The number, size and species identity of reef fish were recorded within a 2 m wide swath centered along a 40 m long transect extending up to 2 m off the bottom. Fish size was measured as total length estimated to the nearest cm. The experiment was initiated in 2008 at five reef sites along the mainland coast of the Santa Barbara Channel.

CFC01 Kings Creek long-term fish and crayfish community sampling at Konza Prairie
Prairie stream fish communities have been monitored seasonally at multiple sites within the Kings Creek watershed since 1995. The objective of this sampling is to evaluate how these communities respond to seasonal and annual variation in environmental conditions. Specifically, we are interesting in testing the resistance and resilience of stream communities in response to flood and drought disturbances. One site in a downstream perennial reach of the watershed has been sampled since 1995. Five sites have been sampled in smaller tributaries in the watershed, two were discontinued due to often lack of flow, two have been sampled since 1995 and one was added in 2008. Sampling is conducted with backpack electrofishing with at least one person dip netting. At each site, multiple habitats (pools and riffles) are sampled. Length of all fish and crayfish are measured.
Long-term monitoring of the fish community in the Minho Estuary (NW Iberian Peninsula)
<p>The dataset contains data from fyke nets deployed in the Minho Estuary (Portugal) from 2010 to 2019. The fyke nets were used for fish sampling and data collection. The sampling frequency varied but, on average, data was collected weekly using five different fyke nets. However, due to technical issues (e.g. lost or damaged fyke nets), the sampling pattern is not constant, with some fyke nets staying underwater for shorter or longer periods, and occasionally having fewer than five fyke nets per parentEventID. Kelp forest fish communities environmental DNA samples from Santa Barbara Channel
The dataset in this package is the processed fish community structure inferred from 12S eDNA metabarcoding in the Santa Barbara Channel. 49 water samples were collected across 11 sites in 2017 and the taxa were identified to the highest resolution possible. The raw DNA sequence has been archived in the Sequence Read Archive (SRA) database (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sra) under the accession number PRJNA667508. A multi-scaled approach to evaluating the fish community structure within southern Appalachian streams, 2011
There is considerable uncertainty regarding the relative roles of stream habitat, landscape characteristics, and interspecific interactions in structuring stream fish assemblages. Thus, I evaluated the relative importance of environmental characteristics and species interactions, at local and landscape scales, on fish occupancy within the upper Little Tennessee River basin, Georgia, and North Carolina. Using a quadrat sample design, fishes were collected at 525 channel units among 48 study reaches during two consecutive years. I evaluated the relative support for the influence of local- and landscape-scale factors on fish occupancy using multi-scaled,hierarchical, multi-species occupancy models.
MCR LTER: Coral Reef: Community Dynamics: Abundance and Species Richness of Fishes Associated with the Coral Porites rus 2000 thru 2011
These data describe the species richness and abundance as part of MCR LTER's reef fish monitoring program to track long-term patterns in species abundance and diversity. This study began in 2000 in the lagoons off of the north shore of the island of Moorea, French Polynesia and the dataset is updated annually. The abundance and life history stage (adults, juveniles or recruits) of all taxa of fishes associated with selected colonies (5-16 colonies per site) of the mound forming coral Porites rus are recorded at seven reef sites located along the north shore of Moorea. These sites are characterized by differences in water depth, distance to the fore reef and the number and types of neighboring corals. Counts are performed by a pair of divers using SCUBA and include semi-cryptic species. The collection of these data was suspended following the last survey conducted in July 2011 due to the extremely low abundance of live P. rus at these locations.
Data from: The role of fish predators and their foraging traits in shaping zooplankton community structure
<p><span>Differentiation of foraging traits among predator populations may help explain observed variation in the structure of prey communities. However, few studies have investigated the phenotypic effects of predators on their prey in natural communities. Here, we use a comparative analysis of 78 Greenlandic lakes to examine how foraging trait variation among threespine stickleback populations can help explain variation in zooplankton community composition among lakes. We find that landscape-scale variation in zooplankton composition was jointly explained by lake properties, such as size and water chemistry, and the presence and absence of both stickleback and arctic char. </span><span>Additional variation in zooplankton community structure can be explained by stickleback jaw protrusion, a trait with known utility for foraging on zooplankton, but only in lakes where stickleback co-occur with arctic char. Overall, our results illustrate how trait variation of consumers, alongside other ecosystem properties, can influence the composition of prey communities in nature.</span></p>
