Dataset for Gate-to-Gate Life Cycle Assessment of Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Pre-Treatment

Recycling spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is crucial for improving environmental sustainability and conserving resources. Due to the diversity of LIB applications and recycling technologies, the environmental and energy impacts are not well understood. Comprehensive assessments must consider the distinct operations, methodologies, technology efficiency, and final treatment of materials. This study provides a partial gate-to-gate life cycle analysis (LCA) of a small-scale recycling plant in the Czech Republic, focusing on pre-treatment of spent LIBs from electric vehicles (EVs) and consumer electronics cells (CECs). The study highlights the benefits of recycling pre-treatment for CECs, significantly reducing environmental impact categories (EICs) such as climate change, eutrophication, and resource use. A high secondary use rate of obtained materials is crucial for environmental benefits, with metal reuse from packaging, connectors, and current collectors being especially important.

Interagency Ecological Program: Water quality, fish, and zooplankton monitoring and modeling to support the 2018 Suisun Marsh Salinity Control Gates Summer Action
In summer 2018 we used a unique water control structure in the San Francisco Estuary (SFE) to direct a managed flow pulse into Suisun Marsh, one of the largest contiguous tidal marshes on the west coast of the United States. The action was designed to increase habitat suitability for the endangered Delta Smelt Hypomesus transpacificus, a small osmerid fish endemic to the upper SFE. The approach was to operate the Suisun Marsh Salinity Control Gates (SMSCG) in conjunction with increased Sacramento River tributary inflow to direct an estimated 160 x 10^6 m3 pulse of low salinity water into Suisun Marsh during August, a critical time period for juvenile Delta Smelt rearing. This dataset includes physical and biological monitoring data collected for the action. Datasets include Delta Smelt catch from the USFWS Enhanced Delta Smelt Monitoring program, zooplankton and Microcystis abundance from the Environmental Monitoring Program, historic Delta Smelt catch from the Summer Townet Survey, Delta Outflow from the Dayflow model, extent of Delta Smelt habitat from the UnTRIM Bay-Delta model, and water quality (Salinity, Temperature, Chlorophyll, and Turibidity) collected at continuous sondes at three locations. These data are associated with the manuscript "Evaluation of a large-scale flow manipulation to the upper San Francisco Estuary: Response of habitat conditions for an endangered native fish," by Dr. Ted Sommer, et al. 2020 PLOS One, in review.

Interagency Ecological Program: Monitoring of water quality, phytoplankton, zooplankton, clams, and Delta Smelt to support the Summer-Fall Suisun Marsh Salinity Control Gates Action 2018-2024
The Suisun Marsh Salinity Control Gates (SMSCG) have the potential to increase low-salinity-zone habitat for endangered Delta Smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus, California Endangered Species Act listed as Endangered, Federal Endangered Species Act listed as Threatened), and to allow them to more frequently occupy Suisun Marsh, especially Montezuma Slough, one of their most important rearing habitats. Operation of the SMSCG in summer and fall to improve Delta Smelt habitat are called for in the Biological Opinion and Incidental Take permit for the Central Valley Project and State Water Project. To support the adaptive management of the action, the California Department of Water Resources and collaborating agencies monitored water quality, phytoplankton, zooplankton, clams, and fishes during the SMSCG management actions in 2018. Monitoring has continued during the summer and fall months of all subsequent years, including both those with and without actions. This data package includes data collected by the Interagency Ecological Program’s (IEP) long-term monitoring programs supplemented with targeted sample collection where existing surveys lacked spatial or temporal coverage. Monitoring during no-action years will be used as a baseline for comparison during action years. This data package will be updated annually.
Transportation network system including trails, road construction history, and gates for the Andrews Experimental Forest, 1952-2011
Transportation network locations within the Andrews Experimental Forest. Includes locations of all the roads, trails, and gates within and around the forest. Original road layer was drawn on maps in 1992 and field validated. The road construction history (1952-1990) has been captured as an attribute. Roads were updated in 2004 to include roads that have been abandoned. Gates were field checked in 2004, as well as trail locations. The three data sets were updated after the 2008 LiDAR data was delivered. Roads were digitized on-screen from the bare-earth DEM, and gates were moved to match the new road network. Trails were updated for the 2011 Andrews map update. Many were located through GPS, and new trails were added. The original data is represented, as well as the updated datasets. The road network dataset is in an esri file geodatabase format, and the other datasets are in esri shapefile format, and all are in a zipped file format.

Human Hyperpolarization Activated Cyclic Nucleotide Gated Ion Channel 4 (HCN4); A Target Enabling Package

HCN4 is one of four hyperpolarisation activated cyclic nucleotide gated ion channels. It is responsible for the pacemaker or funny (If) current in the heart and is required for maintenance of a stable heartbeat. Mutations in HCN4 lead to a number of arrhythmias. HCN4 is the target for the angina drug ivabradine, which reduces HCN4 activity. However, ivabradine is non-selective, affecting all of the four HCN channels. HCN4 is a close homologue of HCN2, which is a target for neuropathic and inflammatory pain treatment. We have solved the structure of HCN4 both in complex with cyclic AMP and without nucleotide. Comparison of our HCN4 structure with that of the related HCN1 channel (86% identity) allows us to suggest ways to design selectivity for small molecule inhibitors between these closely related channels.

Sevilleta Field Station Meteorological Network (SevMET): High frequency measurements from the South Gate Meteorological Station (SOGT), Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, NM, USA, 2024-ongoing.
The Sevilleta Field Station Meteorological Network (SevMET) is a spatially distributed, long-term climate monitoring network established to enhance and expand climate monitoring across a variety of dryland ecosystems (e.g., grasslands, shrublands, woodlands) within the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge in central New Mexico. Ecosystem processes in drylands are strongly regulated by climatic drivers that are highly variable in space and time, both within and among years. Therefore, accurate measurement of environmental variables at high spatial and temporal resolution is fundamental to understanding biophysical processes in these ecosystems. SevMET consists of fifteen standardized research-grade weather stations located across multiple dryland ecosystem types (e.g., grasslands, shrublands, woodlands) representative of the southwestern US. Stations continuously measure a standard suite of meteorological variables at five-minute intervals, including air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, photosynthetically active radiation, incoming shortwave radiation, wind speed and direction, dew point, vapor pressure, and, at a subset of stations, barometric pressure. Stations also measure a suite of soil parameters (bulk electrical conductivity, dielectric permittivity, temperature, and volumetric water content) at six depths (5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 cm) below the ground surface using 1-2 integrated soil profilers. Additionally, phenocams at each station capture images at thirty-minute intervals during daylight hours. This data package contains high-frequency meteorological measurements from the South Gate Meteorological Station (SOGT). Phenocam images can be accessed through the PhenoCam Network at: https://phenocam.nau.edu/webcam/sites/sevmetsogt/. These data complement and extend meteorological data recorded by an adjacent station (Met41), accessible at: https://portal.edirepository.org/nis/mapbrowse?scope=knb-lter-sev&identifier=1.
