GDPRtEXT - GDPR as a Linked Data Resource
<p>The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the new European data protection law whose compliance affects organisations in several aspects related to the use of consent and personal data. With emerging research and innovation in data management solutions claiming assistance with various provisions of the GDPR, the task of comparing the degree and scope of such solutions is a challenge without a way to consolidate them. With GDPR as a linked data resource, it is possible to link together information and approaches addressing specific articles and thereby compare them. Organisations can take advantage of this by linking queries and results directly to the relevant text, thereby making it possible to record and measure their solutions for compliance towards specific obligations. GDPR text extensions (GDPRtEXT) uses the European Legislation Identifier (ELI) ontology published by the European Publications Office for exposing the GDPR as linked data. The dataset is published using DCAT and includes an online webpage with HTML id attributes for each article and its subpoints. A SKOS vocabulary is provided that links concepts with the relevant text in GDPR.</p>

<p>Panel discussion webinar, where data protection experts from across Europe gave their views on what changes the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) brought for research, data archiving and data sharing and how researchers and institutions have implemented the GDPR.</p> <p>One year since the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), what changes did it bring for research, data archiving and data sharing? How have researchers and institutions implemented the GDPR? Are there differences between countries? Are you as a researcher confused about how to apply the GDPR in practice in your research? And how is the GDPR applied in practice in cross-national collaborative projects?</p> <p>A panel of data protection specialists from the CESSDA network shared their experiences with the GDPR implementation, pointed to practical guidance, and answered questions. </p>
GDPR and the principle of purpose limitation in connecting Data Spaces demonstrators
<p>The presentation focuses on legal challenges arising from the GDPR when connecting Data Spaces using the Demonstrators. Special attention is given to the principle of purpose limitation of the GDPR. The Demonstrators serve a crucial role in connecting the data spaces of the NFDI and GAIA-X. The data in the two data spaces is gathered and used for usually completely different purposes. Thus, when connecting the spaces, the data may be processed for completely different purposes. The GDPR – when applicable – limits legitimate purposes of such further processing. Even if a purpose is legitimate, the GDPR imposes different obligations on controllers and processors. The presentation will dive into the applicability of the GDPR to the demonstrators, the roles of controller and processor regarding the demonstrators and will discuss the principle of purpose limitation and the obligations connected to it.</p>
