Gender and ethnic diversity of members of US university natural resource program external advisory board members, 2017-2022
This dataset contains deidentified demographics information for the members of external advisory boards that serve university natural resource programs. Data collected in 2017 and 2022 represents a sample of land-grant, National Association of University Forestry Program-affiliated, TIMES-ranked universities and colleges. Each row represents a member of an advisory board. Data collection was completed in two years: 2017 and 2022. Data was collected from department webpages and lists of advisory board members provided by department personnel. As needed, information was augmented through internet searches for public LinkedIn pages, organizational pages, local news stories, etc. Data include a unique respondent ID, a code for the university they are from, their employer affiliation (e.g., NGO, federal government, NR business, etc.) and their gender and ethnicity measured as binary variables.
Meta-analysis and gender classification of 914 national and international surveys in six European countries (2000-2023)

Gender codification of 412 national (general) and European Parliament elections in six European countries (2003-2021)
<p>This dataset has been produced by applying the Manifesto Gender Analysis (MGA) codebook to 412 national (general) and European Parliament elections in the six countries participating in the UNTWIST project (Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK) from 2003 to 2021.</p> <p> The Manifesto Gender Analysis coding procedure, developed by WP4 of the UNTWIST consortium, aims to analyse gender-related content in party manifestos. It relies on existing manifestos collected by MARPOR and EM projects from 2003-2021 in six national contexts: Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The process involves splitting manifestos into quasi-sentences, coding them based on a scheme inspired by previous projects and feminist typology, and completing an expert survey. This method ensures comprehensive analysis and potential scalability through computational methods. </p> <p>The coding procedure involves a series of essential steps, divided in two main activities: the classification of manifestos’ quasi-sentences, and the completion of a survey dedicated to more general concepts which can be gauged by evaluating the content of the entire documents. In the latter case, then, the unit of measure of each coder consists in the manifesto document, whereas in the former the units of measure are quasi-sentences - i.e., arguments denoting a verbal expression of a political idea or issue. Coders are instructed to split sentences containing multiple arguments into quasi-sentences and ensure that each quasi-sentence encapsulates a single political idea or issue. </p> <p>Once the manifestos are split into said units, coders classify the arguments following the MGA coding scheme. The coding scheme (MGA) consists of 5 domains and 25 coding categories, covering various aspects of gender-related issues. Each domain includes an "other" category for relevant statements that do not fit precisely into the defined categories. Apart from coding categories related to specific themes, the coding scheme then includes additional dimensions. The classification process consists of seven steps: (1) assessing whether the quasi-sentence addresses gender-related issues, (2) defining both the domain and coding category, (3) determining whether the quasi-sentence refers to a specific recipient or group based on gender and/or sexual orientation, (4) evaluating intersectionality, (5)<strong> </strong>assigning the sentiment or connotation, (6) determining if it's related to a goal, issue, or policy, and (7) characterising the policy if applicable.</p> <p>After completing the classification of the quasi-sentences in a given manifesto, coders fill in a survey for each manifesto document. The surveys provide information that cannot be directly inferred from the quasi-sentences, focusing on the gender ontology of a manifesto, the degree to which a manifesto entails a binary conception of sexes, the extent to which a manifesto promotes a patriarchal conception of the society, and how much a manifesto promotes heterosexuality as the only normal and socially acceptable sexual orientation of individuals. While the last four characteristics are gauged relying on quasi-interval measures (scales ranging from 0 to 10), the first one, gender ontology, consists in a categorical variable which distinguishes between manifestos with an essentialist ontology – gender and sex are the same and inseparable –, a constructivist ontology – biological sex is mediated through social construction of femininity and masculinity –, and other or undefined ontologies.</p>

<p>Two sets of 100k anonymized software developers from World of Code after applying the name-to-gender inference tool Wiki-Gendersort and quantifying each developer's number of contributions by commit, project, files; files are classified into 116 sub-categories according to language or development file type (e.g., programming, scripting, or markdown languages such as C, C++, Python, JavaScript, Assembly, HTML; build files such as Dockerfiles, CMake, etc; configuration files; documentation files such as README and Markdown; and libraries. One sample is stratified (50/50 split between male and female developers), and one sample is representative of the population. Wiki-Gendersort outputs M (male), F (female), UNK (unknown), INI (initialis), or UNI (unisex). The scripts used to generate the data set can be found on GitHub. </p>
The Makerere Gendered Corpus: A Gendered English to Luganda Parallel Corpus
<p>This English-Luganda parallel sentence corpus consists of gendered examples created by a team of researchers from Makerere AI Lab at Makerere University with a team of Luganda teachers, students and freelancers. The collaborative work which involves generating English sentences under CC-0 and translating these sentences using a crowdsourcing, iterative and opensource approach was done using Pontoon an opensource Translation Management System built by Mozilla. This is a corpus of 1,000 parallel sentences.</p>

Common database for gender equality audit (GEA)
<p>These datasets were produced under ATHENA WP2, which collected data to analyze the situation on gender equality (GE) at each consortium organization implementing a gender equality plan (GEP). The organizational data were collected through quantitative and qualitative indicators, which were clustered in 6 gender dimensions:</p> <ol> <li>The pool of graduate talents</li> <li>Gender balance in research</li> <li>Gender balanced career advancement</li> <li>Gender balance in decision making</li> <li>Gender balanced working conditions</li> <li>Gender balance in research outputs</li> </ol> <p>The indicators framework and methodology for the GEA was developed by the Institute for Social Communication Research of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (UVSK SAV) team in cooperation with the University of Bucharest (UB) and University Jana Kochanowskiego in Kielce (UJK) teams. The ATHENA institutions started the process of data collection in March 2021. Although the project consortium consists of various types of research organisations, the indicators reflect the RPO/HEI organisation’s circumstances primarily, as this type prevails among the partners. However, other types of organisation have been encouraged to collect the indicators adjusted to their conditions or indicate that the calculation of the indicators was not applicable (n/a).</p> <p>All the information collected was reported in the deliverable D2.1, contributing to provide solid basis on the current status of GE at organizational level for the development and implementation of the ATHENA GEPs.</p>
Staff survey on awareness of gender bias in ATHENA RPOs and RFOs
<p>Task 2.3.1 from WP2 required the collection of data on awareness of gender bias to staff from the ATHENA RPOs and RFOs. An online survey was distributed among the staff of the ATHENA consortium institutions developing a gender equality plan (GEP). ATHENA institutions were requested that the sample was representative as much as possible, meaning this to consist proportionally of female/male, junior/senior positions and staff by occupations depending of the total staff composition in each institution.</p> <p>The aim of the staff survey is:</p> <ul> <li>To identify how aware are the respondents on gender equality in science and research institutions. </li> <li>To identify the biases/stereotypes related to the women´s and men´s role in science and research institutions.</li> <li>To identify gender imbalances and disadvantages in: <ul> <li>Recruitment and promotion,</li> <li>Gaining academic/scientific degree,</li> <li>Participation in decision making,</li> <li>Working conditions and workload,</li> <li>Work-life balance</li> <li>Experiences in harassment</li> </ul> </li> <li>The staff survey results will complement the results of the interviews and focus groups to provide a comprehensive picture of gender equality imbalances in the particular institution.</li> </ul> <p>The staff survey was realised through a standardised questionnaire developed by the WP2 coordinator (UVSK SAV) and approved by the Project Coordinator.</p> <p>The questionnaire consisted of 8 sections devoted to the particular gender areas- dimensions of interest:</p> <ul> <li>Introduction</li> <li>Information on the respondents ´current job</li> <li>Information of respondents´ background</li> <li>Opinions and perception of gender equality in research</li> <li>Recruitment and career development</li> <li>Striving for scientific/academic degree</li> <li>Gender balance in decision-making positions</li> <li>Workload and work-life balance</li> <li>Bulling and harassment</li> </ul> <p>Each section contained 4 – 8 closed and open questions. </p> <p>The results of the data served as support for the WP2 gender equality audit and assessment of procedures and practices at organizational level in D2.3 – Gender equality reports.</p>

The evolution of gender monitoring and its challenges in Research and Innovation in Europe: She Figures reports analysis dataset
<p><span>The article delves into the European Commission's flagship initiative on gender monitoring in science and innovation, offering a responsible metrics perspective and drawing on equality policy literature. Over two decades, the initiative has evolved from competitiveness-related justifications to more transformative objectives related to equality policy evaluation, with the measurement areas and policy focus also undergoing changes. While there has been notable progress, the article points out a logic of invisibility in how dimensions and indicators are conceptualised and their data sources and interpretation. However, it also highlights a significant improvement in the information available. The article suggests that the contextualisation of the process could be enhanced to better integrate it into the policy-making cycle, a crucial area for further research. It concludes with proposals for future gender monitoring science and innovation. The aim is to offer an encouraging vision of monitoring that counts more on who is monitored and in opening up the debates instead of closing them.</span></p>
gEneSys Project - Systematic Literature on the Nexus between Gender and Energy Transition Database
<p>The present Dataset containes the data collected for the gEneSys Systematic Literature Review on the nexus between gender and energy transition.
