Graduated rain gauge (GRG) precipitation observations from 21 sites at the Jornada Basin LTER site, 1989-ongoing
This dataset contains long-term precipitation measurements from graduated rain gauges (GRGs) at 21 sites in the Jornada Basin of southern New Mexico, USA. Gauges are located on the Jornada Experimental Range (JER) and the Chihuahuan Desert Rangeland Research Center (CDRRC), and this set of gauges includes all 15 net primary production (NPP) study sites monitored by the Jornada Basin LTER program. At each site a 4 inch diameter cylindrical graduated rain gauge (11" x 0.01" capacity) is mounted on a 4x4 inch diameter redwood post or a wooden exclosure post next to gate at or near each site. For NPP sites, the primary collection is made on the day that monthly hydroprobe soil water content measurements are made. This enables correlation of precipitation with belowground soil water content. Additional data collections during the month may be made in coordination with other studies. Observations at each site come primarily from GRGs. However, at some sites in the NPP study, GRGs were not installed until later, and the nearest available rain gauge in the area has been used to gapfill the precipitation record prior to installation (details in methods section). Rain gauge identity and field measurement date is recorded with each observation in the data file. Other gauge types that may be listed are the Standard Can Gauge (DSRG or dipstick rain gauge), Belfort Weigh Bucket Rain Gauge (WBRG), and Qualimetrics Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge (TBRG). Data collection is ongoing for all 21 gauges in this dataset.

Naturalis barcode-constrained-phylogeny: pipeline output files used in internship graduate paper
<p>Data used for thesis written by Naomi van Es, bioinformatics student at University of Applied Sciences Leiden. Pipeline was contributed to during internship at Naturalis Biodiversity Centre, supervised by Dr Rutger A. Vos. Include all content of '/data' directory after running the pipeline barcode-constrained-phylogeny, branch <a href="https://github.com/naturalis/barcode-constrained-phylogeny/tree/researchpaper_version">researchpaper_version</a>. Configuration file was set to only use data from taxonomic order Primates and DNA marker COI-5P. Output files include custom database, alignments, constraint trees and subtrees of BOLD barcode data. Example taxonomic family in thesis results is<em> Lemuridae. </em></p>
A questionnaire survey of expected characteristics of i-voting systems among students and graduates of agricultural colleges
<p>In order to find out the opinions on the transparency of remote electronic voting, a questionnaire survey was conducted among students and graduates of Czech universities with agricultural specialization. We assume that these are people with higher technical literacy who may be potential users of i-voting systems in farms in the near future. For the composition of the questions, the framework from Agbesi et al. (2023) was used to investigate the dimensions of transparency for Internet voting, supplemented with a few specific questions. Agbesi et al. (2023) identify five core dimensions, namely information accessibility, clarity, monitoring and verifiability, corrective action and testing, these dimensions influence the perception of transparency which in turn influences trust in the overall system. The anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted online via the Dotaznik.czu.cz platform operated by the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. The invitation to participate in the survey was extended primarily to Czech students and graduates of agricultural universities. The questionnaire survey was conducted from 24 October 2023 to 12 May 2024. The questionnaire was freely accessible on the platform, therefore some respondents may be outside the target population within the limitations of the research. Participants were shown all information including consent to data processing on the homepage of the survey.</p> <p>Respondents answered on a seven-point Likert scale ranging from Strongly Disagree (0) to Strongly Agree (6) to statements within the five defined dimensions. A total of 177 individuals were recorded as completing the questionnaire. A total of 108 questionnaires were completed in full. Of these, 8 more questionnaires were removed because the control question "This question is not part of the survey and just helps us to detect bots and automated scripts. To confirm that you are a human, please choose 'Strongly agree' here" was answered differently than Strongly agree. Of the 100 responses examined, 64 were male, 35 were female, and 1 respondent did not indicate their gender. 72 respondents are aged 18-30, 18 aged 31-40, 5 aged 41-50, 2 aged 51-60 and 3 aged 61-70. 72 respondents have completed secondary education, 10 have a Bachelor's degree, 12 have a Master's degree and 6 have a PhD.</p>

Survey of library information science graduates' readiness to create an information system in the library (using open science as an example)
<p><strong>Survey "Readiness of library information science graduates to create an information system in the library (on the example of open science)"</strong></p> <p>The research is aimed at identifying the degree of readiness of future specialists in the field of library and information science to work in new and relevant areas of library activities related to the development of information infrastructure of open science.</p> <p>The survey consists of 4 thematic blocks and contains 21 questions.</p> <p>The survey was attended by 54 students from 10 Russian universities, studying in the direction of training 51.03.06 "Library and Information Science".</p> <p>The results of this survey will serve as a basis for the development of professional development programmes on various aspects of the functioning of open science for specialists in the field of library and information activity.</p> <p><strong>Опрос «Готовность выпускников направления библиотечная информационная наука к созданию системы информирования в библиотеке (на примере открытой науки)»</strong></p> <p>Исследование направленно на выявление степени готовности будущих специалистов в области библиотечно-информационной деятельности к работе в новых и актуальных направлениях деятельности библиотек, связанных с развитием информационной инфраструктуры открытой науки.</p> <p>Опрос состоит из 4-х тематических блоков и содержит 21 вопрос.</p> <p>В опросе приняли участие 54 студента из 10 российских вузов, обучающихся по направлению подготовки 51.03.06 «Библиотечно-информационная деятельность».</p> <p>Результаты данного опроса послужат основой разработки программ повышения квалификации по различным аспектам функционирования открытой науки для специалистов в области библиотечно-информационной деятельности.</p>

<p>The data is generated as part of the graduation project 'Anisotropic Swelling of a Cylindrical Hydrogel'.</p> <p>The data is generated via Mathematica Notebooks that can be retrieved directly from the GitHub. These notebooks are annotated, and the data provided here can be reproduced by using the appropriate parameters. The Mathematica notebooks can be subdivided in two categories, namely 1) Notebooks that generate data and 2) Notebooks that analyze the data. Notebooks that are used to analyze the data must be adjusted to import the data correctly. SGS-LTER Graduate Student Research: Cattle use of prairie dog towns on the shortgrass steppe of Colorado
This data package was produced by researchers working on the Shortgrass Steppe Long Term Ecological Research (SGS-LTER) Project, administered at Colorado State University. The data table and associated metadata document, which is generated in Ecological Metadata Language, may be available through other repositories serving the ecological research community and represent components of the larger SGS-LTER project collection. We investigated the use of prairie dog towns by cattle (Bos taurus) on the shortgrass steppe of northeastern Colorado by conducting surveys of cattle and vegetation from June to August 1999. Cattle presence and behavior were recorded 3 times a week during driving surveys of 15 black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) towns. A subset of 3 pastures with prairie dog towns was intensively surveyed twice weekly wherein the habitat and activity of a randomly chosen focal animal was recorded every 6 minutes for 3.5 hours. Bite and step counts of other individuals were recorded for 5-minute intervals. Vegetation height and cover data were collected monthly on each of 6 habitats. Results from driving surveys and intensively surveyed pastures were similar; cattle neither significantly preferred nor avoided prairie dog towns. Bare ground cover on prairie dog towns did not significantly differ from most other habitats, but vegetation on prairie dog towns was significantly shorter on (mean = 6.7 cm) than that off (mean = 11.9 cm) prairie dog towns. Nevertheless, foraging observations indicated that there was no significant difference between cattle foraging rates on swales (70.9

SGS-LTER Graduate Student Research: Aboveground Net Primary Production as Biochemical Responses of US Great Plains Grasslands to Regional and Interannual Variability in Precipitation (1999-2001)

Carbon (C) sequestration potential in grasslands is thought to be high due to the large soil organic carbon pools characteristic of these ecosystems. Inputs of C (aboveground net primary productivity) are highly correlated to precipitation across the Great Plains region; however, changes in C pool size at a specific site are governed by the relative input and output rates across time. Our objective was to quantify the ecosystem C response of three grassland community types (shortgrass steppe, mixed grass and tallgrass prairie) to interannual variation in precipitation. At five sites across a precipitation gradient in the Great Plains, we measured net primary production (NPP), soil respiration (SRESP), and litter decomposition rates for three consecutive years. NPP, SRESP, and litter decomposition increased from shortgrass steppe (175, 454, and 47 g C m-2 yr-1) to tallgrass prairie (408, 1221, and 348 g C m-2 yr-1 for NPP, SRESP, and litter decomposition respectively).
